No21 Painted Furniture - A Polished Finish

A pine replica fire surround painted and aged in the ever popular grey tones. It took several layers of paint, and wax to create an authentic looking piece for our client. This paint effect works really well when their is a detailed relief pattern.

This period chest of drawers was very tired, beyond restoration. Our customer wanted to update this very useful piece to match their bedroom colour scheme. After painting we rubbed it back in places to create an aged appearance, linking with the metal draw handles, and waxed to a polished finish, perfect to highlight the serpentine shaped draws.

Antique Oak Carved Table and chairs

We specialise in vintage painted furniture but also appreciate antique furniture.When the central panel extends the table it seats six people.

The table has wonderful carving on the legs and around the edge, it has a lovely aged patina to the table top.

Without the extending panel the table closes to a neat square.

The four chairs are carved with the date 1625 with Tudor roses in the pattern. We believe these to be Victorian as were often influenced by this period.

We have just taken this beautiful find to our showroom at Kilver Court. It is rare that we come across a piece like this which means it also has a premium price. The most obvious choice for this French Enfilade would be positioned in a dining room...... but I can see it in its full glory in a French style cafe concept or restaurant with patisserie decorating its surface.

Antlers - Art in Nature

 

Deer (and other animals such as elk) shed their antlers every year and then grow a complete new "rack".  This shedding procedure takes two or three weeks to complete, while the regeneration takes the entire summer to conclude - and the cycle begins again.  With the sole exception of reindeer (both male and female), male deer shed their antlers between January and April after the mating season.  By then, antlers are no longer necessary to attract females, or challenge other male competitors. Time to decorate!

With Spring on the horizon we have decided to finish the dining room which unfortunately is a part time workshop when it comes to painting furniture. It is time to sell our dresser/cabinet, it had become full of glass and a collection of miss matched white china. We are replacing it with an unusual 6' glass fronted cabinet in a graphite grey which is being delivered next week. But for now we have found space in our little shop for this lovely piece.
