If you ever questioned the value of a cover letter in today's technological age, Goldman Sachs' HR chief has an important message for you.
"We read them because at times they will contain information that actually gives us insight into the person," Edith Cooper, executive vice president and global head of Human Capital Management at Goldman Sachs, tells Business Insider.
The key to a good cover letter, she says, is to keep it new and interesting.
A colleague recently told Cooper about a job candidate who submitted a unique cover letter that, strangely enough, touched on astrophysics.
"It was so, so unusual that the recruiter said, 'You know what? I really want to talk to this person.'"
Cooper says the lesson isn't that every candidate should write about something unusual for the sake of standing out.

Nine (9) Phrases that make you sound Less experienced than you are on the Job
Flickr/Vancouver Film School |
1. 'I don’t know'
You certainly don’t need to have all the answers all the time. None of us do. But answering your co-workers’ questions with "I don’t know" (and a blank stare) can make you look like you’re not up to the job.Muse writer Sara McCord offers some great alternatives in this article, such as offering up what you do know ("Well, I can tell you that the report went to the printer on Friday") or responding, "That's exactly the question I'm looking to answer." Or, if you know you can get the information from someone else, try "Let's loop Devante in to confirm."

Inspirational Story of Nigerian President's Official Photographer , Bayo Omoboriowo
How inspiring can this be. Doing what you love until it takes you places plus knowing that not everything is acquired through white collar opportunities.
This inspiring story was written by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu
For many Nigerians on social media, we always admire the beautiful pictures of our new President, Muhammed Buhari. We admire the elegance and the story the pictures portray, we salute the aesthetics behind the image but not many know that the guy behind it all is Bayo Omoboriowo the official photographer of the president and amazingly, he's just 28.
