Sunshine Says TREAT Me, Woman!!! #chewyinfluencer

Sunshine is PUGLIKE in her devotion to TREATS. Whenever she is hiding and the 'rents want to get her to come out, they shake her treat container. Lickety-Split here comes Sunshine. Works every time. She sneaks outside and refuses to be corralled? No problem, shake the treat jar. So you would think she is not picky about treats. Well you would be wrong. There are many brands she does not care for and they are collecting dust on top of the fridge just to prove it.

So when Chewy.com offered some cat treats for their December reviews, Mommy jumped at it. I was a little peeved because I am always in the mood for a good treat. But Mommy said no to dog treats because, as she put it, I am getting a little portly. PLUS, she pointed out, I am testing in order to review an awesome carrier. So. . .

The treats were ordered and arrived at our abode in a scant 2 days. Yes! Just like that. . . ordered, BOOM! Arrived, BOOM!!

I believe those are for ME

Sunshine had picked out the very festive looking Temptations Holiday Dinner flavor. There are Turkey and sweet potato flavors and the treat nuggets are red and green.

I told Mommy she was wasting her time because Sunshine has never shown interest in turkey or sweet potato.Well, true to form, Sunshine totally proved me wrong. She went absolutely CAT-CRAZY for them! And she is STILL going whack-o when the container is opened!!!! She loves those treats! Most of you may not remember the Halo Chicken Live-a-Littles incident. Well, WE were testing them for review. We all (except for Sunshine who stayed home) happened to be out of the house for the day and when we got home, the Live-a-Littles container was on the floor, broken, with 3/4 of the treats GONE. Well, right after the Temptations arrived, we all went out for grooming. When we got home, the container was knocked ON THE GROUND. But this time, the container not only stayed closed, but it also did not break. My POINT is, Sunshine likes them enough to COMMIT A CRIME for them!!!

These treats are made in Canada, eh (heehee - see what I did there?) and contain vitamins, minerals and extra nutrients to make them a healthy treat for adult felines. The crispy crunchy outer shell is good for tarter control and the meaty interior is very flavorful.

And the snazzy SAFE container looks quite nice on her counter top. (She eats on the counter top because somepuggy tries to EAT her food because she is always trawling for food!)

In summation, We all agree that these treats are a great deal. They are reasonably priced, festive, good for kitty, and tasty. What more can one ask. Sunshine says she gives them FOUR PAWS up and would definitely do MORE of she could. Oh, though, she wants to request an EASY OPEN container so that she can help herself once in a while rather than making MOMMY do all the work.

** Sunshine, not me, received FREE OF CHARGE a container of Temptations treats for the sole purpose of  trying them and developing an opinion of them and then writing a RUN-ON SENTENCE about them. Haha! JK!! No, no. . . just so she could review them. All of the opinions on this blog belong to ME or are supervised by ME. And I don't even get paid for it. Noodles the Pug

What About Dave? #chewyinfluencer

Mommy was talking about some dude named DAVE the other day and I totally did NOT get what she was talking about. I mean - I don't know any Daves, Davids, or Daveys. So how was this relevant to me and my total PUGness?

It turns out that Dave's is a private label pet food which is found at Chewy.com. This food, created by. . . um . . . Dave (?) . . . is wholesome, grainfree and DELICIOUS - according to the label. At this point, I had not tried it. But it was on Chewy.com's September list and Mommy thought, WHY NOT? She is like that. Always willing to jump in with both feet (or paws, in my case).

So that's how we discovered DAVE's Dog Food 95% Premium Chicken.

But the story does not stop there. I did some research on this so-called DAVE. Turns out he is a REAL PERSON and his company grew out of his exsisting business, his pet feed store. And even today it is a small family run operation that ALLOWS DOGS AT WORK. That's not all, the company is very active in hurricane relief efforts (this is certainly a big need this year with Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria. . .); AND they are also active with pet rescue. You know me. . . I am a sucker for a company with a CAUSE.

So we got the canned dog food*, chicken, of course. . . Mommy figured I could use it as a topper because I still like some crunch in my diet. Molly could eat it as  a stand alone because she prefers (and her toothlessness demands) soft food.

When it arrived, it looked just like the cheap brands on the shelf what we walk on past. Really, Dave does not put a whole lot of GLITTER and GLOSS in his labels. Now I find that totally endearing. At the time I thought. . . hmmmmm.

The Mommy opened the first can. It smelled A'IGHT. Well, it smelled more than that. It smelled downright delicious. It looked mushy and a bit like Alpo (which I never get. . . I saw it in an ad. . . or something. . .). Mommy went HMMMMM and I went HMMMM and Molly went "Gimme!"

This is how my bowl looked when Mommy finally dished it out. Pretty appetizing, huh? Turns out the food looks a little Alpo-ish until you scoop it out. Then you see it is really REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS chicken ground up. Oh My Tomato!!!! It tastes so good.

I am drooling as I write this review because I just think of the rich flavor and good-for-me recipe and the way it feels in my mouth. Mommy said when I first tried DAVE'S Dog Food, I even stopped and SAVORED the food for a millisecond. That is UNHEARD OF in this pug's life.

But it isn't just the flavor that won me and Mommy over. Look at the ingredients -
Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Agar-Agar, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Magnesium Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Niacin Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid.

Nothing on that list is manufactured or fake. It is real food and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. All good stuff. And because it is CHICKEN and CHICKEN BROTH, mostly, it is high protein but low in calories. So I can eat a full serving (not a DIET portion) and retain my svelte pug figure. And best of all -

Dave's has the QUALITY of high priced food but the PRICE of the cheap stuff. So it is affordable for families on a budget, like mine.

Chewy.com sells Dave's Dog Food in 12 can cases  AND at a very reasonable price. I suggest you stock up today. Once word gets out about this great and affordable food, there will BE A SHORTAGE, I am sure.

Oh! I forgot to mention that DAVE'S DOG FOOD come in more than one flavor. Pick your fave from

  • Beef
  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Beef & Chicken
Dave's also has 3 other formulas of dog food as well as cat food - there is something for everypuggy!

We give this food 8 paws and smaller 4 Cat paws because Sunshine begged to try it!!!

*We received , free of charge from Chewy.com, sufficient food to try, test, and develop an opinion of. We received no moneys at all for the review nor were we told what to say. All opinions are those of the owners of this blog which is really owner - me - noodles the pug.

Sunshine Speaks!!!! #chewyinfluencer

Here in Casa de Noodles, we like to give everyone a chance to try something new from Chewy.com and talk about it. This time it is Sunshine's turn. Usually she tells me what she thinks about a product and I write a review. But this time (and it has happened a couple of times in the past with mixed outcomes) I decided to let Sunshine write her own post about Purina Pro Plan Savor Adult Crunchy Bites with Real Chicken Cat Treats

********************************************************************************

A-hem. Hello dear ones. Sunshine the Cat here to expound on the glories of Purina Pro Plan Savor Adult Crunchy Bites with Real Chicken Cat Treats. They are indeed a treat worth spending my valuable time talking about. They are good. . . they are crunchy. . . they have a rich chickeny flavor augmented by vegetables (which I can do without, if you ask me) like carrot, tomatoes and peas. I find they are wonderful as appetizers or even as an apres dinner treat. They just add that je ne sais quoi to an otherwise adequate meal.

You're welcome

*******************************************************************************

Well. . . I, um . . . She walked away after PRETENDING to drop a mike. What can I say? Cats are like that. Huh. . . . well let me give you a little more information about the Purina Pro Plan Savor Adult Crunchy Bites with Real Chicken Cat Treats that you can find at Chewy.com along with 9 other flavors and formulas. They appeal to a Cat's sense of taste and smell. And I can say from PUGSONAL experience that dogs like them too.

Pro Plan treats were created to provide tasty AND healthy treats for cats. In Sunshine's case, she needs a little extra TLC from her treats because she is 14 now and that is OLD. So the Pro Plan Crunchy Bites
  • Maintain Complete and Balances nutrition that is so important for older cats
  • Are made from REAL chicken and chicken flavoring to up the smell and flavor appeal
  • Have no artificial colorings, flavorings or preservatives which can harm an older cat's delicate system
  • Are fortified with vitamins and minerals that food alone might not supply
  • Have a density and crunchiness that is just right for a kitty
The ingredients are:
Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Animal Fat Preserved with Mixed-Tocopherols (Form of Vitamin E), Corn Gluten Meal, Natural Flavor, Chicken, Malt Extract, Phosphoric Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Brewers Dried Yeast, Salt, Dried Carrots, Dried Tomatoes, Dried Peas, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Taurine, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Niacin, Manganese Sulfate, Citric Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Calcium Iodate, Biotin, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K Activity), Sodium Selenite.

So in terms of a good-for-them treat, Purina's Pro Plan meets all criteria. And as I always say - a treat, no matter how healthy - is worth nothing if the pet won't eat it. We all MEOW for these flavorful crunchy treats. Hey!!! It's fair. Sunshine gets our treats as well (especially the freeze dried chicken which is like a drug to her).

Go to Chewy.com and pick a flavor and formula that best suits the kitty in your family. I don't believe you will be disappointed.

We give Purina Pro Plan Savor Adult Crunchy Bites with Real Chicken Cat Treats 12 Paws Up.

*We were supplied by Chewy.com free of charge enough product (one bag) to test, taste and develop and opinion of the product. We have not been told what to say or paid to say anything - every word and opinion is ours alone.

#chewyinfluencer Finally the end of the Thirty Day Challenge and I Gotta Say

IT WAS A WILD SUCCESS!!!

We loved, loved, LOVED the Nutro Wild Frontier Rolling Meadows Recipe! I know, I know. You are thinking "But Noodles, you like EVERY food." And while that is certainly true, I do have DEGREES of liking-ness. Molly is picky, too, so she is a good meter for assessing foodable liking-ness.

Here's the thing - we BOTH loved this food. We BEGGED at dinner time - uh, more than usual, that is. We JUMPED when Mommy took too long to lay-that-food-down. We both GOBBLED every morsel down in record time then proceeded to lick our chops and our bowls for the next TEN MINUTES. Really!

If I was to theorize - and you KNOW I love to do so - I would say the main attraction of Nutro Wild Frontier Rolling Meadows Recipe is the FLAVOR. And that is flavor that can only really be achieved by using REAL and FRESH ingredients. One simply CANNOT imitate the rich, intense flavor of real food. To refresh your memories, here are the ingredients for this particular recipe:

  • Lamb
  • Chicken Meal
  • Chickpeas
  • Peas
  • Lamb Meal
  • Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols)
  • Dried Potatoes
  • Dehydrated Alfalfa Mea
  •  Potato Protein
  • Sunflower Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols)
  • Natural Flavor
  • Flaxseed
  • and naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and preservatives

Nothing wrong with that list of GOODNESS. Flavor - for us pups, it is all  about the flavor.

Moms, however, have a different spin on things. My Mommy said she wanted to see how the food affected out coats, eyes, joints, poop, and so on. Overall, the report card is pretty good. It averages out to about an A-/B+ when everything is taken into consideration. She said some of the other foods we have tried this year actually did a better job in terms of overall health. Our coats are soft but not as shiny (neither of us have very shiny coats anyhow) as before. We have plenty of energy and do not seem at all sluggish which is very good for small low-energy pets. BUT - and this is a big BUTT for Mommy (there is a pun there) - our (my) fartiness and belchiness has increased dramatically. This is NOT a pleasant side effect for those around us (I don't notice anything bad). She thinks it is most likely due to the coincidence of APPLE SEASON arriving at the same time as the food. But she just is not sure so she wanted to put it OUT THERE. In any case, there are those two negative BUT that is all. There is also the issue of Pug Eye (also called eye snot) and Stink Butt (anal glands not expressing fully) which Mommy noticed ticked up a bit from the beginning of the month. It might again be coincidence and one month - one food makes it hard to determine the cause.

Would she recommend this food? Yes, she would to those in the market for High Quality at a lower price. But is is not equal in quality to the higher priced foods, she cautions. Our health is not suffering at all - in fact we are doing pretty good and eating food for which we jump for joy when she opens the bag.

We, the PUG and the MALTI, think a little more highly of Nutro Wild Frontier Rolling Meadow Recipe and we give it

We want to thank Chewy.com for giving us this opportunity to TRY and REVIEW Nutro Wild Frontier. Of course, you know, we are never paid to write these reviews and we never never let anyone or any company put words in our mouths. All opinions and observations belong to US - Noodles and Molly.

Challenge Solid Gold Is In The Books

We have finished our 30 day challenge for Chewy.com and Solid Gold dog food.

The challenge was this:
Eat only SOLID GOLD BUCK WILD food for 30 days and report on how we liked it. We decided our review should include such things as

   1. How did the food look? Was it appealing?
   2. What about the smell? Was it pleasing?
   3.  Did it taste good? Was it the right size for our PETIT mouths?
   4.  Did the food live up to it's claims? How was our health?
   5. Would we recommend it? Would we continue eating it?

This is from their mission statement: ". . .holistic, natural products that allow these amazing animals to look and feel great while they live life to the fullest.
Solid Gold® led the charge in creating super premium holistic pet nutrition over 40 years ago.
Today our products are still made using high quality, natural ingredients that are carefully
chosen for a specific purpose – staying true to our heritage."

How do they achieve this holistic natural product? Well - take a look at the ingredients and I think you will see that their pet food is REAL FOOD!

This is what we got -
Grain & Gluten Free Buck Wild™ With Venison
Venison, Potato & Pumpkin Recipe
This is what is in it -
Venison, Turkey Meal, Potatoes, Peas, Chickpeas, Tapioca, Canola Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Pollock Meal, Eggs, Pumpkin, Pea Fiber, Natural Flavors, Dicalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Salt, DL-Methionine, Salmon Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Carrots, Parsley, Apples, Cranberries, Blueberries, Lettuce, Celery, Beets, Watercress, Spinach, Dried Chicory Root, Broccoli, Spearmint, Almond Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols), Sesame Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols), Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Kelp, Thyme, Lentils, Choline Chloride, Taurine, L-Carnitine, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Sulfate, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Manganese Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Folic Acid, Calcium Iodate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Rosemary Extract, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Casei Fermentation Product.

I BOLDED the obvious food things. Keep in mind, most of those hard to pronounce things are naturally occurring minerals and probiotics. For example Pyridoxine Hydrochloride  is another name for Vitamin B6 complex!

What this means is Solid Gold Buck Wild pet food is REAL FOOD. This is important. There are no fillers and no inedible parts to the kibble. And Venison, as the numero uno ingredient, is a major player in the PROTEIN game. Their "Core Nutrition" is "Our blend of super foods, protected probiotics and perfect proteins balanced for whole-body health."

Check out their website for more information about their line of Holistic Foods https://www.solidgoldpet.com/products/buck-wild

How did it taste? Well the day we got the package from Chewy.com Molly WOULD NOT leave it alone. She kept sniffing around it and guarding it just like she does her dish. And when I SAUNTERED by for a peek, she pretended to be EATING SOMETHING from the box (there were NO HOLES in the bag).

Most of my regular readers know that MOLLY is a PICKY eater who cares more for her perfumed baths than FOOD. Yet her behavior clearly showed this was a food she cared about. The smell was intoxicating for her.

So it was surprising when after the first couple of days, she tired of the food. Or ACTED like she was. I think she was hoping for some MERRICK BACKCOUNTRY as a topper. HAHA!!! She did not get it and after a couple of days she stopped balking at eating the SOLID GOLD. She is now trotting to her dish and ASKING for the kibble. She likes it almost as much as me. Frankly speaking - NO ONE likes food better than me. I even lick my bowl for a full FIVE minutes AFTER I have licked the bowl clean HOPING for some more food.

Solid Gold Buck Wild is a good sized kibble - not that small pea sized stuff that I choke on as I vacuum down my food - but a good size that is small enough for Molly and large enough to make me chew SOMETIMES.

Finally, how do we look, feel, and act while eating Solid Gold Buck Wild for a WHOLE 30 DAYS? We feel GREAT! Our furs are soft but shiny. All of the yeastiness I had after my operation has gone away thanks to the probiotics in the food. Our eyes are bright and our floppy ears still a little stinky and waxy when not cleaned daily - BUT NO WORSE than usual. We have a lot of energy, too. I even started taking toys out of the toy box which I seldom do now that I am more mature. But I really feel like playing and running now. It must be something in the KIBBLE.

Finally, and I cannot understate this, we feel like we have eaten a meal when we are done AND I AM NOT gaining weight from it either. In fact, it seems to be working very well with my current DOCTOR PRESCRIBED weight loss regimen. This is all because SOLID GOLD has what we need - a lot of good protein from FOOD sources.

Would we recommend this food? Well, yes we would. It is good quality pet food and we appear to be thriving on it. The downside is that it is one of the more expensive pet foods on the market and that makes it hard to fit into our budget. But that said, we have found that these higher priced QUALITY foods really make a difference in our overall being. Natures Variety Instinct Raw Boost and Solid Gold Buck Wild are similarly priced and made such a difference in the overall health of both Molly and Me.

We want to thank Chewy.com and Solid Gold Pet Foods for the opportunity to take this 30 Day Challenge*. We learned a lot and we ate a lot - but all for a good cause. . . our HEALTH.

*NOTE: We were not paid for our opinions nor were we told what to say. Every opinion expressed in this post is our own PERIOD. We received a bag of SOLID GOLD BUCK WILD VENISON POTATO AND PUMPKIN RECIPE free of charge so we could evaluate it over the 30 days.

Does This FOOD Look GOOD to You?

Left - Natural Balance Chicken Formula; Upper right- natural turkey roll; and
lower right- homemade apple sauce. We got some of the Sweet Potato
and chicken treats for sitting calmly while filming

Take a good LONG look at this picture. Does this look good to you? If you are a human, you probably said NO. Ah..... but if you are a PUG or a DOG . . . this is Heaven in a BOWL.

What you are looking at FURiends is THREE kinds of food that comes in the NEW GIFT PACK by Dick Van Patton's NATURAL BALANCE dog food. OMP!!! THREE at once! This gift pack (which is currently on SALE at www.chewy.com) is a great deal if you are looking to try the foods BEFORE you buy them OR if you are going to GRANDMA'S house and only need food for a couple of days. Or if you are SANDY PAWS and you know of a certain PUG who has been very very good this year.
 It is THAT CONVENIENT.

The DOG gift pack includes:
  1. a bag of limited ingredient treats
  2. a can of ultra premium chicken formula food
  3. a delicious turkey food roll
- a great mix for the holiday season.

Let me tell you a little something about Natural Balance. This is a company committed to producing food for health. They check and double check all of the food that leaves their facilities for known contaminants. They also code date every single can and bag so you can be assured of freshness. They make food for pets as well as ZOOS! Can you imagine the trust that entails?

The Chicken formula canned food is made with premium meat, carbohydrates and vegetables. No fillers, nothing artificial. AND canned food has an additional benefit of  aiding in hydration for those pets needing a little more water in their diet. The turkey roll is more concentrated - it contains premium meat and dried kelp (seaweed). The natural animal fats from the meat helps promote healthy skin and coat. The roll can be sliced, crumbled into kibble or used as training treats.  The treats, Sweet Potato and Chicken limited ingredient Treats, contain no soy, corn meal, or wheat. They are crunchy, naturally sweet, and are great for training.

On your Mark, Get Set . . . Sunshine has some too.
Confession time: She did not like it.
Molly ate her bowl as well.

I look at this and I see BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. This is for the HUMANS to know. All I know is this is some of the yummiest food I have EVER eaten.

Mommys gave Molly and me half of everything. It was more FOOD than we normally get but they wanted to see how we liked it. They added the applesauce for a fruit and fresh component - to CLEAN OUR PALATES, I like to say.

I can tell you this - that is some tasty food. No, I am lying. THAT IS SOME OUTRAGEOUSLY tasty food. I could not stop eating even though I, Noodles the Pug, was getting FULL! And here is the weirdest part - Molly BEAT ME in the eating contest! BY A FULL MINUTE. Yes, folks, you heard it right, it took MINUTES for me to finish a meal. I savored every bite.

Check back tomorrow, CHRISTMAS EVE, for a video of Molly and Me racing to CLEAN OUR PLATES.

Losing My Girlish Figure - Is It Worth It?

I have received this food free in exchange for my
HONEST opinion. My opinions are my own and
I have received no other compensation.
Love Sunshine

So as you know, I have been a recent recipient of all things CHEWY.COM - much to my sisteroids' displeasure. Where they get all barky and silly when something arrives for them, I am quietly pleased and inwardly gloating. Case in point the photo above. That is me looking excited about the BOUNTY beside me.

So this is what I received from the venerable purveyor, Chewy.com:

Merrick Purrfect Bistro Grain-Free Shredded Grammy's Pot Pie Canned Cat Food

Like all of Merrick's fine foods, both Grammy's Pot Pie and Surf & Turf Pate are made with Merrick's "Five-Star Standard" which includes real whole foods locally sourced (when possible). And they cook the food as little as possible to ensure the healthful benefits of that food are retained.

This sounds quite thrilling to me - as a cat, I am infinitely interested in the healthful benefits of what I am fed. (Unlike those DOGS I live with who only care that it is ((marginally)) edible!)

So, I must say, WHY a DOG???

I asked, quite loudly, "Chewy.com - Why should I, Sunshine the Cat, choose Merrick over the other FINE brands you carry?"
Well, diplomatically they answered:

Merrick is a company that has been in the pet food business since 1988. Over their decades of service, they have consistently produced healthful products at the highest possible level of excellence.

Okay, I'll TRY it if only for that reason alone.

First I tried the Seafood Pate. It was fragrant and the texture was like fine tuna. But I have to admit, I was not BOWLED over by the meal. I kept after it. . . for an hour and a half I kept at it. So it WAS tasty to some extent. It just wasn't my cuppa, you know? I am not too keen on seafood, unfortunately.

Second I tried  Grammy's Pot Pie. Although the name is reminiscent of a DOG food, I have to admit I found the pleasant poultry aroma, fine not flaky texture, and the TASTE much more to MY liking. I ate it lickety-split with not even a sliver left in my bowl. It was, a success, I dare say.

All in all, my experiment was quite the successful one. I had 2 more meals worth of samples and I did indeed eat them all up. I am a little worried about one side effect of my MERRICK PURRFECT BISTRO extravaganza, though. . .

It seems my expanding bottom now resembles a
bowling ball.
