Petal Junction- New from Highway 10 Designs

Kathy and I are very excited to announce the newest pattern offering from Highway 10 Designs called Petal Junction.

Petal Junction was designed with large blocks to showcase the beautiful fabrics prints we all love on the bolt and hate to cut into small pieces.  The pattern instructions easily keep directional prints upright. The pattern includes seven sizes from Toddler to King and as always is available as a PDF download or in paper format.

Instructions are included for using both Fat Quarter or Half Yard bundles for the focus fabrics.  The background can be a single fabric, a variety of coordinating Fat Quarters or totally scrappy.  The instructions also include a fabric and time saving bonus idea.

I have a number of samples to show and first up is the cover quilt that was made by one of our wonderful testers - the fabulous Reneta.  Reneta selected a wonderful line of fabric called Harmony from Riley Blake Designs.   There are a number of one way directional prints in the collection and Petal Junction accommodated them with ease.

Reneta made the throw size quilt using 20 Fat Quarters and selected the Calder pantograph for the quilting.

Next up is a quilt from another tester - our awesome Amy.  Amy made the lap size quilt and selected the Figo Fabrics Desert Wilderness collection.  She chose a different layout than Reneta did for hers.

Kathy dug into her Art Gallery fabric stash and chose some of her favorite pieces from the Kismet and Homebody collections for her two samples.  I think quilters often feel they should keep a collection together when it arrives tied with a pretty ribbon, but mixing and matching can make things even better!  They look so different with a dark versus a light background!

For the light version Kathy opted to use a selection of low volume Fat Quarters to add interest to the background.

I love seeing a big piece of those gorgeous floral prints in the block centres!

Add last but not least for today is a sample I made in the Primavera collection from Figo Fabrics.

During the construction process we suggest that you sew an extra seam at times to create some Bonus HST from what would otherwise becomes scraps.  With the HSTs that I made and some squares cut from the bits of remaining fabric I was able to create a few small projects. (The larger the quilt the more HSTs you will have for another day.)

My youngest daughter moved into her first apartment and she received a hand me down freezer from her brother in law that had seen some life, so I made this cute little topper to pretty it up, along with some coordinating hot pads.

I will be sharing more about another Petal Junction quilt that I made in my next post, but here is a sneak peek for now...

Baby Quarter Sections Quilt

If you are local to me you will know that these photos were not taken in the last few days, we are having our first snowfall of the season!  These photos were taken earlier in October. when I was finishing up this quilt.

My daughter Kendra and I made this sweet baby quilt for our neighbors who just had their first daughter.  We knew is was a girl ahead of time, so Kendra and I were able to pick out some really pretty fabrics at Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour.  (Thanks to Jennifer for being so patient while we moved many bolts while trying to come to an agreement).  We used the  Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections pattern which uses five fat quarters plus borders to make a generous sized baby quilt.

Kendra and I shared the workload with her giving me the tasks she likes least.  I got to cut and add the borders, as well as quilt and bind it.  Kendra likes to piece and be in charge of the pressing, and I have to say she is more meticulous that me, so it really works out great.

I used the Tufty panto for the first time, and its smaller scale suited the baby sized quilt well.
I also love the peach flannel that we found for the backing as well.

My Canada Home Quarter

Lorraine made this lovely version of the Highway 10 Designs' Home Quarter quilt from a kit she purchased at Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabrics are from Northcott's "My Canada" line.

Lorraine selected the Maple Syrup Pantograph for a very fitting finish.

If you have a fat quarter bundle lying around, Home Quarter is a great pattern.  The large pieces let you enjoy the fabrics you fell in love with, and it is easy to manage directional prints as well.  Sizes from lap to king are included.

Boston Bruins Pedal to the Metal

Reneta made this spirited version of Highway 10 Designs Pedal to the Metal quilt  as a grad gift for a big Boston Bruins fan.  This pattern is the perfect quilt to highlight team or school colors for the super fan in your life!

Reneta chose the Plush pantograph and I use a light gold thread for the quilting.

Reneta made the twin size quilt (shown on a double bed), the pattern includes three different pattern variations and sizes for Twin, Double, Queen and King sized beds.

Washboard Road by Highway 10 Designs

Let me introduce you to the newest pattern from Highway 10 Designs - Washboard Road.
This is the 15th pattern Kathy and I has designed as Highway 10 Designs and we are celebrating with a sale! From now until November 15th all paper and PDF patterns in our store are 15% off!

This pattern is designed to use your favorite precut fabric. Originally conceived to use jelly rolls, Kathy and I quickly realized that this pattern works just as well with Fat Quarters and even Fat Eighths!  The pattern includes instructions for 4 size options including Throw, Twin, Queen and King.

I made the quilt featured on the cover this time around and I am loading up this post with photos because I just love it so much!  The fabric is Fairy Dust by V & Co. for Moda.  I used the Twister pantograph for a simple clean finish, and a silver Maginifico thread to echo the metallic elements in the fabric collection.

Washboard Road is perfect for an experienced beginner and beyond.  I'm sure many quilters out there have purchased a precut because it was "so pretty", but didn't really have a plan, and now it is just waiting on shelf for the right pattern to come along.  Washboard Road might just be that pattern! Washboard Road is available in both PDF download and paper formats on our website.

I'll give you a sneak peak of Amy's version with a rich navy background and the borderless option.  I'll share more in my next post tomorrow!
