Huge Hares and Beastly Bunnies!

Check out Dr. Karl Shuker's excellent new article on giant-sized rabbits and hares in the UK. Karl makes the interesting point (and I suspect he's right on target) that some reports are likely due to mistaken identity. As for what people may be seeing: wild wallabies, of which there are a number of significantly-sized colonies in the UK.

The Monster of Ben Macdhui...

Over at his Shuker Nature blog, Dr. Karl Shuker has an excellent, new article on the "Big Grey Man of Ben Macdhui," a somewhat "British Bigfoot"-type phenomenon - albeit one saturated in a wealth of Fortean phenomena and lore.

I wrote extensively about the "BGM" in my Wildman book, and the story is a strange one indeed - one that takes the mystery far beyond mere flesh and blood realms...

Wildmen of Europe

Dr. Karl Shuker has a new post at his Shuker Nature blog.

The subject: the European wildman.

Karl begins...

"Homo sapiens was not the only species of human named and recognised by Linnaeus when publishing Systema Naturae, his revolutionary binomial system of zoological classification, in 1735. Among several others was Homo ferus, the wild man, which according to Linnaeus was covered in hair, moved on all fours, was mute, and lived apart from H. sapiens in forests, hills, and mountains. Today, none of Linnaeus’s ‘other’ species of human is recognised by mainstream science."

They may not be recognized, but that doesn't mean the subject has no validity to it!

Weird Aliens!

Dr. Karl Shuker has an excellent new post up at his Shuker Nature blog that focuses on some of the weird and creepy critters that have been reported in UFO encounters over the years.

We're definitely not talking Grays and Space-Brothers here! Check it out!

I should stress that the photo above is not one that appears in Karl's post. I've simply used this as an illustration. It was sent to me years ago - sometime in the 90s - along with a claim that it's an alien, filmed somewhere in the UK.

Well, no, it clearly isn't - as far as I'm concerned anyway. I say: "Hoax!" But nice try.

Paranormal Creatures in the UK

Over at his Shuker Nature blog, Dr. Karl Shuker presents us with his favorite Top 10 paranormal creatures of the UK. And as Karl shows, there's definitely some strange ones!

Karl begins:

"In modern times, Britain – reputedly the world’s most haunted country – has seen more than even its fair share of monstrous creatures reported, beasts assuredly more supernatural than natural. So here, in no particular order, is my own personal Top Ten paranormal terrors of the zooform kind (i.e. seemingly preternatural entities superficially resembling corporeal creatures). Encounter them at your peril!"
