The 4th of July was pretty low-key for us this year. We were going to go to the Glenwood Springs Adventure Park but decided against it. Instead we stayed home and had a very relaxing day.  That night we went over to our friends the Seaver's for a BBQ. The kids all had a great time playing, we ate good food (Andrea made a ton and it was great!), we chatted, and we made s'more in their portable fire pit. It was really fun. After that we went home and chilled for a bit and then watched the one and only firework show (the only legal one anyway!) through our toy room window. The show was at the GJ Rockies game pretty far away so we couldn't see it great but it was fun nonetheless.

We had a coupon to Cafe Rio the other day and couldn't let it go to waste!  Thanks to the coupon, free quesadillas for kids 6 and under, and a really nice cashier, everyone got food and sodas for free!  (When the cashier told my kids they could have any drink they wanted at no cost they were in heaven.)

Cole thought the chips were bland and so he branched out and tried a new sauce on them - mango pepper sauce.  He loved it and was quite proud of himself for bravely trying it out.

Maliya still has her weird eye episodes every so often.  Our dr. has no clue what they are but suggested we get an EKG done to see if we can figure anything out.  I took Maliya in on Friday for the test and she handled it like a champ! Seriously she was so brave and happy and pleasant and was quite amazed when the test was exactly as I had described it - fast and easy and painless.

On Friday afternoon Madison walked up to Nick and said 'Dad, if you give me a treat I will be your pillow and rub your back.'  The girl loves her treats!  Luckily for her we were already planning on going to Enstroms.   Every Friday in July Enstroms gives kids free ice cream if they recite (or at least attempt to recite) the Pledge of Allegiance.  Isn't that awesome?!  So Nick told Madison yes, the kids got said the Pledge and got their ice cream, and Nick got a back rub.  It was a good night for everyone.

Max turned 1! Is that crazy or what?  For his birthday celebration on Saturday we gave him a few gifts. We mistakenly gave them to him right after his nap and he was still a little too tired to really get into tearing into his gifts.  That was okay, though, because it gave the girls a chance to help him (which they were really hoping for!).  We gave him a big stuffed bunny and two touch-and-feel books. He also got to open his gift from Grandpa and Grandma G (who watched via FaceTime), a cute plastic chair that sings and talks.  That chair caught his attention right away and has been a favorite (for him and Madison!) ever since.

After presents we stripped Max down to his diaper, strapped him into his mealtime chair, stuck him on the patio table, and gave him a cake (two cupcake-shaped brownies stacked and covered in frosting and mini chocolate chips).  He was a little hesitant to dig into his cake at first. Then I used a fork to give him a taste. Once he had the sugary goodness in his mouth things changed. He started grabbing at the chocolate chips and frosting and stuffing them into his mouth. Then he found a hole in the middle of the cake and stuck his finger right into the middle, played with the cake for a minute, and then picked the whole thing up and took a bite!  He had fun with that for a few minutes and then, when he decided he'd had enough, threw the cake overboard.  Though we all had fun watching, the girls were glad when he was done because they wanted their turn at the cake!  (When we initially gave Max the cake they were SO upset! I guess they hadn't realized until then that the whole thing was for him.)  We gave everyone lots of bites and then Nick grabbed Max by his feet and took him into our shower to clean him up while I dealt with the mess outside.   We all had a lot of fun and were quite pleased with the show Max put on for us.

Cole took these pictures the day before Max's birthday.  Max slept in until 9 (whoa baby!) and then after a quick bottle the kids took him upstairs and entertained him for an hour. They took pictures and videos and just had fun.  I enjoyed having some time to get a few things downstairs and I loved listening to them all playing together.
