Vibrant Watercolor Receding Background

Welcome everyone! Mindy Eggen with you today and I have a very vibrant card to share with you so you may want to grab your sunglasses.

I also have a video to share on how I created this card that you can view down below or HERE on Youtube.

I'm starting to dabble into liquid watercolors. I have the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi set but I just wasn't "feeling" it. Then a friend gifted me a set of Dr. Ph. Martin's Liquid Watercolors and I'm in love! They come in a plastic bottle with a dropper applicator. This is perfect for me because I can control how much of one color when mixing colors.

Now this card got a little out of control on me but it was still fun to make! I created a background using the Dr. Ph. Martin's Liquid Watercolors on Bee Paper Company watercolor paper. I would paint a layer of colors, dry with my heat tool and reapply color for more vibrancy. I layered it three times to really make it pop.

I wanted to add a subtle background using the Receding Background stamp. As you can see, it didn't come out too subtle. I heat embossed White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder onto my background and I didn't realize how white it would really be. I would have been better stamping the Receding background in the Embossing Ink and letting it dry. That would have given me the subtle background I wanted. I still love how this came out as I love vibrant cards.

I trimmed down the panel to 4" x 5 1/4" and added to a white card base.

I die cut the word Awesome three times  from white card stock and layered using the E6000 spray adhesive. This gave my word some dimension when adding to my card front.

Next, I die cut one of the Skinny Strips from Black card stock and heat embossed the sentiment in white embossing powder. This sentiment is from the Typed Sentiments stamp set. Once embossed, I just cut off the word awesome and added to my card front right above my die cut word.

Yes, a little vibrant and busy but I absolutely adore it ! I can't wait to play with these watercolors some more and create more amazing backgrounds!

You Are Wicked Awesome!

Welcome back everyone! Mindy here with you today to share a wicked awesome card!

For the most part, this card was pretty simple. I took a piece of Bristol Smooth card stock and ink blended Chipped Sapphire, Pine Needles and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink. I die cut this piece using the Receding Blocks Cover Plate and my Gemini Jr. Since my pieces pretty much stayed in place when I took it from the machine I decided to add foam squares behind each piece. Yes. Very tedious but I think it was totally worth it!

Once I had the backing of the foam squares removed, I placed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Neenah Solar White card stock over the top and pressed down. This attached all of my foam to the card stock. I was then able to peel back the frame and I was left with this amazing design with dimension! I couldn't stop there. I sprayed my panel with Thermoweb Gold Glitter Dust to get all that sparkle!

I'm totally in love with the new Typed Sentiments stamp set. This one matched perfectly with the Awesome Word Die that I cut from White Glitter card stock. I also cut the word die two more times from white cardstock and layered together with liquid glue

To create the sentiment, I first matched up which Skinny Strip would fit best with the sentiment. Then, I die cut the Skinny Strip from Black card stock. To stamp the sentiment, I attached Repositionable Adhesive to the back and lined up in my Misti tool. This makes it super easy to stamp and my card stock won't move. I prepped my strip with anti static powder tool, stamped in Clear Ink and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder. I then attached the sentiment to the card front with foam tape.

I finished off the card by attaching some sequins from the Peacock Feathers Mix with liquid glue and then filling the center with Unicorn Stickles. This would make a great masculine card ! It's perfect to give to my hubby who's been shoveling us out of all of this snow lately.

Hope you enjoyed today's project!

Magnolia Two Ways with Daria

Hello Dears,

Daria here. So glad you are joining me today. It turns out we are all in the team are big fans of our new Magnolia stamp set. You may scroll down to previous posts to see what Kay and Bibi made with these beautiful flowers. As for me, I've decided two play with some coloring too this time.

I stamped a half letter sheet card stock with Magnolia flower and then colored it with Zig Clean color Brush markers.  It is very basic coloring, but I like the look. Then, I cut it in two pieces and got front panels for two card.

For one of it, I die-cut the flower with coordinating dies many times from post-it notes and made some masks. I glued them on top of colored flowers and then ink-blended Broken China Distress ink. Love how bright it  turned out.

For the second card, I've decided to go for a more clean look, and left the panel as is.

To finish the cards, I used sentiments from Awesome and Celebrate stamp and die sets. I keep using them over and over again.

I also added Nuvo Drops in White and Crystal Clear Sequins.

I hope you liked that simple ideas and will give them a try. Be sure to tag us in social media. It is always so rewarding to see what you create.

Hugs, Daria.

Awesome Geometric Circles with Cathy Zielske

It's the last Friday of the month which means, sadly, we have to say goodbye to this month's guest designer Cathy Zielske.  Cathy's projects this month have been such a treat and today's project is no different.  She's featuring our Geometric Circles cover plate and Awesome dies.  Here's Cathy with all the details:

Today I'm sharing my third and final card as the guest designer for Neat & Tangled. And today's card is kind of special. It's the, how does one say, pièce de résistance? But specifically, it is my ode to the one and only Laura Bassen, one of my true card making idols and all around card magician.

You see, a long time ago, (okay, last year…), Laura made an amazing card you see below using a Neat & Tangled cover plate and she posted about it here.

I went nuts for the card. Ordered all the supplies. Tried my best to emulate the master but it ended up being a hot mess so instead, I dialed it down just a bit and created a card you see on this post. (Oh, I was so young and green!)

But I always wanted to tackle the technique that Laura used and for this card, I finally managed to achieve the result I was looking for.

Only one problem: on the video you're about to see, a handful of clips are missing that show me actually DOING the technique. But I thought I'd keep the video anyway because the result was so good! And yes, to really learn the technique, just go watch Laura's video here.

Without further ado, here is my video, missing clips and all!

Neat & Tangled / Tonic Collaboration - Day 5

Can you believe we are already at the end of our week-long collaboration with Tonic USA?  All week we have been sharing projects featuring N&T and Tonic products on both the Neat & Tangled and Tonic USA blogs, there are also two big prizes to be won.

Here at Neat & Tangled we'll be selecting one lucky comment from our collaboration blog posts to receive a $75 credit to spend at Tonic. AND, Tonic will select a commenter from their blog to win a $75 credit to the Neat & Tangled store.  We'll announce the winner on Monday, so you still have time to get your comments in.

Today, Daria and Keeway are sharing with us.  First we have Daria:

Hello Dear Friends, happy to join this fun collaboration today, and to see you here.

I've wanted to try out gilding flakes for some time. SO, when I've got a chance, I came up with to backgrounds and two cards.

I free painted a heart for one and just scribbled for another one with a Nuvo Glue Pen. Combined with Gilding Flakes in Gold they became a perfect background for my projects. You probably know how much I love gold accents...

Look at all the shine...

I used the Geometric Circles cover plate to make two flowers for one, and I used just a part of the die-cut cover plate for the other. Love from the Love Notes die took a central part as a sentiment.

Next is Keeway:

Hi! Its Keeway and I made a fun AWESOME card for our collaboration with Tonic Studios. I personally use several of Tonic products including their embossing paste, embossing powders, and their stamping platform in so many of my projects frequently, but this is my first time trying out the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse and I have to say I absolutely LOVE it!

I knew that I wanted to use something out of our stencil collection, so I picked one of my all-time favorites, the Geometric Blooms, to work with. I started my project by blending a bright and warm background with Candied Apple and Spiced Marmalade oxide inks. Then, I laid my stencil on top of my blended background and spread the Mother of Pearl mousse with a palette knife. I made sure the mousse filled out the open areas from the bottom but gradually lessened the amount the mouse as I worked upwards.

The mousse was so easy to work with! The hardest part was letting it sit and dry since I was so eager to complete the project. But, I was patient, and I came back to my project in less than 30 min. For my sentiment I heat embossed a sentiment picked out of the So Many Sentiments stamp set in white onto a peach/pink card stock I found in my scrapbox. Then I replaced the word 'awesome' in the sentiment with the large die cut 'Awesome'. I die cut the word 4 times, and the backing once out of red card stock. The strong colors really bring out the word even with such a shiny and bright background. Hope you have an awesome day!

And that's a wrap!  We really hope you enjoyed this collaboration, our designers definitely did!  Remember you have through the weekend to leave comments on this week's posts to be entered to win a $75 credit to the Tonic store.  Don't forget to leave comments on the Tonic USA blog too to be entered to win the $75 credit to the N&T store.

Awesome with Sheree Forcier

Happy Friday!  We're welcoming our November guest designer, Sheree Forcier back to the blog today.  She's got another beautiful layout to share with us:

Hello crafty friends!

Today I’m sharing a layout with a background that I created using the fabulous Heart of Gold Die. I love how versatile this die is!

To create this background I used my Big Shot to cut nine hearts from some plain white cardstock, then I cut seven more hearts from a variety of patterned paper scraps that I had in my stash. I tapped all the white pieces out of the white hearts and selected one coloured piece from each coloured heart to insert into each white heart shape.

I love the subtle effect of the white hearts on the white cardstock background with those little pops of colour! To adhere the hearts to the background cardstock I used a sheet of microdots which completely covered the back of each heart with a sticky coating, then I use a little liquid glue behind each coloured piece to stick them into place.

To finish off the background I added some subtle texture with a stitched border and some messy stitching to the edge of three of the hearts.

Once the background was done I was ready to add my photo and other embellishments. The Awesome Die was perfect to use as the title for this page! I chose the same pink patterned paper that I’d used in the background hearts backed with some plain white cardstock and I love how it stands out against the photo.

I stamped “you are so” from the Awesome Stamp Set onto some plain white cardstock and trimmed it down before adding it just above the die cut word.

After selecting a few more stickers, embellishments and some twine from my stash my layout was complete!

If you would like to watch my process you can see my video below:

I had so much fun creating this layout and I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how it came together. I’ll be back again soon with another project to share!

Therese Calvird - Floral Heart Two Ways

Hey everyone!  We're wrapping up the week with our May guest designer Therese Calvird who is sharing her final projects for this month.  She's been providing amazing inspiration all month and today's post is no exception.  Here's Therese:

I am so happy to be back with you this Friday here at Neat & Tangled and today I am playing with one of the most beautiful wreath stamps ever, and it’s called Floral Heart.

I have two cards and a video to share with you, and I wanted the heart to be the focal point so I have kept them both quite clean and simple. My first Floral Heart is watercoloured and I have added a gold die cut Awesome sentiment over the top of the image.

The remainder of my sentiment was from My Favorite Nut and was selectively stamped just above the heart.

For my second card I decided to use some of the beautiful Neat & Tangled sequins to create a shaker. The Floral Heart was stamped directly onto some recycled cardstock and coloured with Copic markers. The sentiments on this design also came from the My Favorite Nut stamp set.

But the best thing is, the Floral Heart stamp has a co-ordinating die which is a very clever design because you can separate it and die cut just the inner or outer portion of the wreath, how wonderful! This was perfect for my clean & simple shaker window

Here is my video showing you how I created both cards.

I can’t believe how quickly this month has flown, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here as Guest Designer at Neat & Tangled and would love to send out a big thank you to both Danielle and Miriam for asking me, I’ve had a blast!

May Guest Designer - Therese Calvird

Happy Friday!  We're so excited to be welcoming Therese Calvird as our guest designer this month.  Therese has a sophisticated CAS style that is both whimsical and refined, and she makes a mean one layer card.  We're thrilled to have her with us this month and we think you are going to love what she's created.  Here's Therese:

Hi, it’s Therese Calvird and I am beyond excited to be here at Neat & Tangled as a Guest Designer. I have been creating cards for about 15 years and love to make many different styles of cards as well as try out new techniques, but if I was pushed, I would have to say that I probably love to stamp and colour the best.

Today I decided to create a video to show you a fun way to ‘Stretch those Stamps’ and the Calathea stamp set was the perfect choice to create my own custom background.

I decided to make two cards and thought it would be fun to have a ‘boy’ and a ‘girl’ version using these fabulous pirates from Yo Ho Ho.

I coloured the images with Copic markers and used the Awesome die to build my sentiment for the boy card.

And the Good Vibes stamp set was the perfect choice for the sentiment on the girl’s card. And I just loved adding the gold sequins from the Peacock Feathers sequin mix to look like some coins were falling out of her treasure chest.

Here is my video showing you how I created both cards.

I look forward to seeing you again next week, where I have another video and a couple more cards to share. Thanks for stopping by!
