In this stillness

6
COM
I've watched colleged winter thaw of ice
along our side of the farms.
Grackles and other eastern birds flit to
one side and then the edge.
Their tiny lungs filled of
spring song. These...
these uncaged songs mapped
by memory's territories
live somewhere beneath blue skies and a
habit that holds my blue- gray
eyes... still. It's in this stillness I'm headed
towards an open field and a lone oak.

Napowrimo day 5: The challenge was to write a Golden Shovel. The last word in every sentence is another person's poem word for word. Instead of using someone else's poem I used one of my own haiku called gray headed oak.

My first haiku for April's National Poetry Month. Inspired by my iphoneart of the same name: In the whisper of me

God's voice and grace without slant.

NaPoWriMo 2011, day 3

Not without poetry had a photograph prompt today with the words: voicing, shucked & slant. I decided to use only the words.

That Ageless Sound

COM

It's that ageless sound
Of half broke horses
Breaking earth
Under an afternoon sun.

Of half broke horses
She's come undone
Under an afternoon sun,
These things... hidden.

She's come undone
This is all
These things... hidden,
Of dust on air.

This is all
Two hoofs breaking earth
Of dust on air-
It's that ageless sound.

NaPoWriMo 2011~

Today's prompt was to use three book titles in a poem. I used these titles:

Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls
She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
This Is All by Aidan Chambers

And, I also used a horse photo I'd taken at River Downs last year.

I've decided to participate in NaPoWriMo (national poetry month) this year. I will attempt to post 30 poems in 30 days this month. I am currently writing on two poems now. Hopefully they will be posted before the end of the day. Here's a link to NaPoWriMo if you'd like to participate also.
