Sweet Cake for a Sweet Treat PP343

Hiya friends!  Welcome to another week at The Paper Players where our lovely friend LeAnne is hosting a Theme Challenge this week:
Sweet Treats!  So I went looking in my stash….I got a little sidetracked by all the STUFF in there, oh my!  But I did find a retired stamp set called Sweet Cake that fit the bill and with all the May birthdays among my family and friends, I have another birthday card:
So cute…now I remember why I didn’t get rid of this stamp set!  I wanted to use up some more of my designer paper and thought this cherry paper would coordinate perfectly with the cupcake.  I covered my thick Whisper White base with this pattern from the [retired] Cherry On Top DSP stack.  I used some [contraband] Wonky Stitched Rectangle dies from My Favorite Things to cut my focal panel out of Watermelon Wonder cardstock.   My teammies all use these wonky stitched dies often and I just had to have them!  I stamped the main image several times fussy-cutting each layer.  First the whole thing was stamped in Pool Party and cut out.  I then stamped again in Watermelon Wonder ink for the cupcake and Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock for the cupcake liner.  So you can’t tell in this pic but the cupcake, cherry and heart all sparkle with a liberal application of Wink of Stella—I mean really because if you’re gonna have a cupcake, it should sparkle, right?!
The inside needed a little something extra beyond just the stamping so I cut a frame from the same Cherry on Top DSP to decorate the sentiment.  This sweet sentiment is from [yet another] retired set called Remembering Your Birthday and while I didn’t use pink on this card, I thought the sentiment fit well with the sweet treat theme of today’s card.

Thanks for stopping by today, friends!  Be sure to check out the amazing inspiration from the rest of my teamies over at The Paper Players.  Maybe you will be inspired to join us before our challenge closes on Friday, May 12th at Noon (PST).  Talk to ya soon!

A Sketch for the Paper Players

Happy Paper Players Sunday, friends!  This week at The Paper Players, I am delighted to be the hostess with a sketch that I designed:
The sketch is based on this card I designed a few weeks ago and I liked it so much that I CASED myself, LOL!
This card is going to a very special blogging friend of mine who is celebrating a birthday this week.  She's probably going to see it here but she doesn't yet know it's for her.  Shhh, don't tell!  {wink!}  I hope she will be surprised when she finds it in her mailbox!  I took my color cues from the Timeless Portrait designer paper: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, River Rock, Cherry Cobbler & Island Indigo.  Designer paper is a great source for color combinations and takes the guess work out of the process!

Along each side of the center panel, I embossed the scalloped border with the Adorning Accents embossing folder.  Embossing Vanilla cardstock really lends an elegant feel to the whole project and coordinates nicely with the floral spray on the DSP.
The Mixed Bunch blossom was heat embossed with Cherry Cobbler embossing powder and the scalloped borders were sponged with Island Indigo ink to make them pop!  Because my friend adores pearls, I filled the center of the flower with as many as I could fit!
I hope you'll consider playing along with my sketch over at The Paper Players--just link up before Friday, April 27th at Noon (PST).  Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Team for even more amazing inspiration.   Thanks for stopping by today!
