Starburst Sayings for The Challenge #24

Hi all! It has been crazy busy around the Canopy in the last several days. I had a fabulous time at SU Leadership in Orlando with my Mom but had to leave early on Saturday to meet DH and DD in Daytona Beach for DD's volleyball tournament. That was also a wonderful--and I'm not gonna lie, a little stressful--experience. The girls came away with 1st place in the Silver Divison--yay!!   All that meant that I couldn't post a card for The Paper Players yesterday but do check out Claire's fun challenge this week! Today, however, I do have a card for you featuring colors AND a sketch from the gals over at The Challenge!
I was delighted to learn that my card for Challenge #22 was a winner and that I would get to guest as a designer for Challenge #24! I was so excited to see if I could combine all these fabulous colors AND the sketch....so how did I do?
To be honest, I almost feel like I cheated customizing the background paper with some Irresistibly Yours DSP and markers!  This DSP is the coolest offering from SU Sale-a-Bration, ever!  It features a white-on-white embossed pattern that allows you to sponge, color or spritz any color you want!  I colored the striped pattern with Night of Navy, Marina Mist, Cajun Craze, Crisp Cantaloupe and Crushed Curry Stampin' Write markers to achieve a custom background paper.  The rest of the card is pretty simple using the Starburst Sayings stamp set and coordinating Framelits to stamp and cut the focal point.  I changed up the sketch a little using the circle as the main section instead of the rectangle but if you would like the dimensions that coordinate with the original sketch, here are some suggested measurements:

Card Base: 4.25 x 5.5"
Gray Side Strip: 3.5 x 5.5"
Rectangle: 2.25 x 4"
Long Flag: 2 x 4.50"
Star: Any Shape

Be sure to check out all the fabulous creations from the talented Design Team over at The Challenge...we hope you will play along with us!

Ka-Washi for the PP {PP192}

I am excited today to be this week's hostess over at The Paper Players where we have a fun Clean-and-Simple challenge:
I have several different sets of SU washi tape and decided to work with Gingham Garden because it hadn't seen the light of day yet!  As soon as I saw this great sketch on the Cardabilities blog:, a card design popped into my mind's eye.
The images and patterns of Gingham Garden are small and delicate so I wanted to keep the other design elements and images in keeping with that theme.  The light and airy scrolling flourish from Creative Elements makes a pretty background pattern especially when stamped in Pear Pizzazz to coordinate with the color in the Washi Tape.
I've been so enamored with flowers lately, that my butterfly stamps and punches were starting to feel lonely.  I inked up Papillion Potpourri in Melon Mambo and layered an elegant and bitty butterfly.  Island Indigo is also one of the colors in the Washi Tape and I just happened to have some matching Baker's Twine to wrap up the butterfly.  A couple tiny butterflies cut and embossed from Vellum cardstock with the Beautiful Wings embosslit add a little dimension without adding more color.
Very easy to pull all these elements to the inside of the card as well....I had so much fun with this one that I decided to make a second, more gender neutral, card with the same sketch but different Washi Tape:
Here, I had fun playing with the colors from the Retro Fresh Washi Tape as well as elements from several stamp sets including Just Sayin', Peachy Keen, Starburst Sayings and Gorgeous Grunge. I mean because once you start...
you just can't stop....now go Washi something!  I have to tell you that the name Washi Tape makes me giggle.  DD has camped locally with the Girl Scouts at Camp Kateri where we learned at orientation that they don't call their bathrooms restrooms or toilets.  They call them....wait for it....Ka-washis!  So, now I want to call it, Kawashi Tape!!  :-)  Be sure to check out all the Ka-washi-tas-tic Kreations from my friends on the Design Team:

Crazy for Starbursts {PP178}

Hiya peeps!  My friend LeAnne has a bright and cheerful color combination for us this week at The Paper Players
It's the perfect pick-me-up for winter!  I knew I wanted to use the Starburst Sayings stamp set and coordinating Framelits for a spray of circles....and then I happened upon this great sketch over at Create with Connie & Mary:
It was exactly what I had in mind and the perfect template to make it happen!  Connie and Mary always have great sketches.  :-)  So, wanna see what I did?!
 I hope LeAnne doesn't mind that I added Basic Black as a neutral.  I don't think she will--she's cool like that!  To get the starbursts where I wanted them, I used the smallest starburst die as a stencil and traced the shape onto a piece of scrap paper.
Since I used thin copy paper, I attached it right to my cardstock with some removable tape and positioned the die over my tracings.  Eight cranks of the Big Shot later and I had my base!
Some of the starbursts are adhered directly to the back of the panel and some have a dimensional on them so they appear recessed.  Just gives a little variety and movement rather than all of them being flat.  I wanted this to be a mailable card but still have some bling.  Rather than use bulky rhinestones, I punched some small circles from Silver Glimmer paper with the cupcake punch and adhered them to each starburst with a glue dot.  The sentiment is also from Starburst Sayings; stamping it again onto colored cardstock (Pear Pizzazz) makes a bold statement and draws the eye to the sentiment.
 On the inside, I repeated the same color pattern of starbursts to create a fun background for the combined sentiments from Remembering Your Birthday--love that set!  I had a lot of fun making this card with LeAnne's colors.  Be sure to check out the rest of the design team for some fabulous inspiration.
