SOAR

Hi and welcome. This month at Pixels and Paper our photo to inspire you features hot air balloons and quite an iconic Aussie structure... the windmill seen so often on farms and outback stations.

I've taken the idea of the balloons and the windmill and have created a layout without photos.

The balloons feature some of the colours from the inspiration photo and have been made in three different ways:- Iris Folding, Venetian Folding and the one in the centre at the bottom of the page, by gluing strips of paper to a balloon template. The lower edge of the paper has then been stamped  with trees and of course, a windmill. This stamping was also on top of the balloon to make it look as if it was rising behind the treeline.
The title "Soar" was cut from card which had been gessoed through a stencil then sprayed with Dylusions Ink while wet.

Catch you again soon.

STARS IN OUR EYES

Hi and welcome. This month's inspirational artwork at ARTastic is "The Return of the Young Prince" by Sarah Beetson, with the additional criterion of the use of stars.

For my layout this month I have chosen some of the colours depicted in the artwork and constructed an iris folded star as the background mat for the photo I've used.

One of the papers used for this was one of my experiments with a new stencil and Neon inks.
The photo I've used was taken of my soon-to-be husband and self, not long after our engagement in 1973.  The photographer was one of my bridesmaids to be.

Additional stars were made from some of the same papers and were highlighted with dots using black or gold Sharpies. The border was done with a gold Sharpie and I added black stars.

Thank you for dropping by and while you're here, why not pop on over to:artastic and check out how the rest of the team has used the artwork. We'd also love to see your art here.

Catch you again soon. Cheers for now.

YOU MAKE ME SMILE

Hi and welcome. This month, Pixels and Paper is having a joint challenge with Child's Play Challenges, using our photo inspiration and adding extra criteria from Child's Play. This is an opportunity for you to enter both challenges, using the same layout.

For my layout, I  used the hint of blue showing in the inspiration photo as my main colour, the teddy, lace and vintage look. From Child's Play, I added the extra criteria of three patterned papers, gold, bling, an animal, and something at least one year old (photo of dog, plus embellishment of an iris folded teddy, gold Prima flower (also more than a year old), bling around teddy's neck and on the camera embellishment).

Close-up of teddy embellishment. The layers of paper were put onto a cream-coloured background which was then cut out to the teddy shape and stamped with new metallic chalk edgers... liking these!

The title for my page is an embossing folder sentiment and particularly apt for the photos I have chosen to use.

Papers were heavily distressed and inked. In sections where I tore and then rolled, I inserted snippets of lace or another paper.
The photos were of one of Julie's (Time to Create) little divas that always greets us enthusiastically every time we go to play. Bella and Angel love to be included in everything going on, but Angel, in particular would often jump onto a chair, her paws on the table in front of a work mat with an expectant look on her face, as if to say :"Where's mine?" On this particular day, she wasn't the only one sharing the workspace. Julie launched a new product and we thought it would be fun to include our teddies (because the product was a teddy stamp set). However, Angel was less than impressed with her furry company.... and Bella, to a lesser extent. The stress levels of both little ones rose to the stage where we had to remove the teddies from  the work area. We were certainly smiling and laughing... much, before we could start our class for the day.
Even though both little ladies are less agile now, they certainly still do make us smile.

We'd love to see you come and play with us this month. Pop on over to:Pixels and Paper  to have a look at our inspiration photo and what our team has done and while you're there, also pop over to:
Child's Play Challenges and see what their design team have been up to.

Thanks for popping by and for lovely comments you leave. I always find these encouraging and uplifting.
Cheers for now,
Di.

A Sweet Challenge

Hi and welcome. I've been popping around different challenge sites and came across this interesting one, where inspiration comes from lollies / sweets! Pop over to: http://thelollipopladies.blogspot.com.au/ to have a look.

I couldn't resist the temptation and put a card together using white cardstock misted with Perfect Pearls 'Kiwi" Mist (just love this colour).

The colours and shape of the lollies in the inspiration image are reflected in my Iris Folding. Thickers painted with 3D Stamping Paint, star-shaped buttons and bling have completed the card.
Thank you for visiting,
Cheers Di

Afterglow

Sunset photos are a favourite of mine for scrapping and since I started scrap booking I've begun an album solely for sky layouts; from dawn to night, showing the glorious colours, interesting cloud formations and the very different moods.

This sunset layout features an iris folded mat. I've selected colours that would reflect the various colours in the clouds. The black background was stamped with some favourite leaf stamps, using versamark which was then worked with Perfect Pearls powders. Extra little wisps were made with Liquid Pearls. The same treatment was done with the foam thickers used for the title.

Thank you for looking. Di

Iris folding: not just for cards

I like exploring different techniques using paper, ribbons and lace. After teaching myself how to do Iris Folding on cards with paper and ribbons, I explored the "I wonder..." and developed designs that could be used on layouts, embellishments and as feature backgrounds.
As a family, we love photography, featuring the great outdoors and sometimes, we manage to capture each other pursuing this shared love.
What better way then, was there to combine the two into those "I wonder" monents.

A photo of my son, who hates being photographed, taking photos at Pirate's Bay, Tasmania. Also shown is one of the photographs he was shooting at the time. The iris folding incorporated street maps from Tasmania.

Iris folding has been used as a major feature in the background for these photos, showing the three of us at Russell Falls in Tasmania.
Thank you for looking, Di.
