ULTRA

photo taken from runfool.com.
This weekend, Cebu will be holding it's first ultramarathon. I have been running for 18 months already, but I haven't signed up for a single marathon, and have to complete my second Pikermi this January. The thought of conquering my first marathon is still quite daunting. But conquering an ULTRA, I must be insane by that time.

Anyways, this post is dedicated to the brave men and women who will run from Mt. Manunggal (Cebu's highest peak) up to the Provincial Capitol. Good luck and Godspeed!
Oh, by the way, the next time I am going to meet the finishers, I have a monicker reserved for them...

Run for BB2-Run for Kids with Cancer

Dec. 5 must be the busiest day in Cebu's running calendar! Can you imagine there are SIX, as in 6 races will be held on this day all over the metro! I know most of you guys will either be in deep training for the January gig, or in Singapore or in Quezon City. But for those who want to join races on this day, it would be better to Run for BB2!

Why am I unabashedly suggested for anyone to join the Run for BB2? We'll this is a run for a cause! Proceeds for this event will help in the treatment for 7 kids with cancer. That will be great Christmas gift for these kids and their families. Second it has a great race course that included the dreaded hills of Banawa! Just take a look at the race map below. The course will provide a good quality workout for those preparing for their January gig.

See, I hope I convinced you guys to join this! Don't be a grinch! Merry Christmas!

Dumaguete Marathon-November 21, 2010

I know a lot of people who already signed up for the Cebu City Marathon this January are now training like crazy right now. I know some of them might be bored with the same LSD routes they tackle every weekend. So ladies and gentlemen, why not take your LSD to another place, like the City of Gentle People (also known as Katol's hometown.), Dumaguete.
This coming November 21, they will be hosting a "marathon". You may register in 3K,5K, Quarter Marathon (10.5K), 3-quarters marathon (31.5K). You may register at the Foundation University. For more details, you may call the following:
Dr. Aparicio Mequi/ Paultom Paras/ Joel Balajadia/ Carlo Simpao/ Alex Pal
035-4229167 loc. 165
They also have an official website:  http://dumaguetemarathon.com.

I got some information through, http://takbo.ph.

Run for BB 2

After the success of Run for Bebe last June, Code Blue Running Team of the Chong Hua Hospital, is inviting everyone to join the Run for BB2! This time the beneficiaries are the children as young as 7 months old who cannot afford further treatment.

The singlet, according to Code Blue's Tita Naomi Fajardo is orange. You never had any orange singlets, right?

Cebu City Marathon 2011 Registration

It's another lazy day at the office, I guess. So since I have nothing to do, I browsed at my Facebook account. Then and there, CebuRunning announced that the Cebu City Marathon 2011 registration will be open this October 8, 2010 at the Ayala Center-Cebu Active Zone.

The registration fee has increased. The 5K is pegged at P500.00 (from P250.00), 21K is at P 600.00 (from P450.00), and the full marathon is at P800.00 (from P650.00). Yikes! I hope the organizers have a better way of explaining to the runners this increase in registration fees. It's part of our consumer rights. I just hope monetary depreciation is not involved, though.

TNF Thrill of the Trail-Bohol (September 12)

I have been longing to join one of these races, since I want to experience what is like to do trail running. As I was browsing my Facebook account, I saw this photo tagged to a runner-acquaintance. Giddy me wants to join this, but reality me reprimanded. TNF Thrill of the Trail-Bohol is scheduled at the same date as the Milo Marathon-Tagbilaran Eliminations race, which the crew have long been planning for. On second thought, I will be managing the clinic branch by September! Sigh!

I am looking at the sky right now, waiting for signs.

Conquering 20K and Beyond: Run to Reduce and Pilipinas First 25K International Marathon

Cebuanos will be treated to a couple of races which is slated to have distances beyond 20K. First will be the Pilipinas First 25K International Marathon (Why call it a marathon, if it's only 25 kilometers?) this coming August 15, and the Run to Reduce on August 22.

The Pilipinas First 25K International Marathon will be held at the Asiatown IT Park. They had a press conference today at around 10 am in a hotel very near to the clinic where I am working. Unfortunately, I could not excuse myself since I had lots of patients then. But i have heard through TV Patrol-Central Visayas (while mourning for the passing of a resident kitty), that the registration fee is pegged at P 350.00 for 25K, P 250.00 for 10K and P 200.00 for 5K. The 25k race course will also include the newly-inaugurated tunnel. There will be 10K and 5K race categories

The week following the 25K Run, there will another half-marathon race sponsored by the Aboitiz Group of Companies. My dad already informed me about this last summer, since they were also been told by their HR. The race will be held at the South Road Properties and has four race categories: 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K. The 10K and 21K runners will have timing chips. Registration fees are pegged at P450.00 for 21K, P350.00 for 10K and P250.00 for 5K and 3K. You may register at Runnr in Ayala Center-Cebu, Visayan Electric Company (VECO)-SM City-Cebu, and Casa Ilonga at the Robinson's Place-Cebu.You may claim your singlet/s at Persimmon Plus, Mabolo, Cebu City from August 16-21, 2010.

If you are preparing for Milo half-marathon this September you may either join either or both races or skip either or even both, it only depends on you. Choose your races and stay away from injuries.

Great Things Start From Small Beginnings

The longest and the biggest foot race in the Philipines, the Milo Marathon is now on it's 34th year. And this time, the race is also for a cause. Proceeds from the race will provide running shoes for the under privilege children in all cities where a Milo Marathon Elimination Race will be held.

This year also, there's a qualifying time for every age category in the 42K eliminations in Manila. Wow, mura'g Boston! The race will kick off this July 4, 2010 in Metro Manila. Here in the Visayas, the elimination leg will start on September 5 in Cebu City, followed by Tagbilaran, Bohol on September 12, Dumaguete City on September 19, and Iloilo City on September 26. I ran the 5K last year which was a bit of a traumatic experience for me, thus I made a vow not to run the 5K again. 10K or 21K? Just wait and see.

Oh, by the way, I already saw the TVC.Who knows, through our efforts, we can discover the next Lydia de Vega.

Takbo na!

Silliman Run on August 22

 Silliman Hall

So far, it's been a boring day at the office, so I took a peek at my Facebook account. There will be three race categories: 3K, 5K and 10K.This will be fund-raising activity, so everyone's encouraged to participate.

I contacted Mr. Nonoy Castillon for further information, and he sent me a personal message on my Facebook account. In his message, it stated that there will be a P50.00 price cut on the registration fee. For on-site registrants, there will be an additional P50.00 for your registration fee. The registration fee is at P250.00.
