Not All West Bank Violence Is Our Fault

There are other "Westbank"s, like this one in Canada:

A Westbank man who killed his girlfriend by strangling her has lost his appeal of his murder conviction.

In June 2010, James Gordon Feil was found guilty of the October 2008 second-degree murder of Tiffany Fedechko, 23, a single mother.

The Crown’s theory was that prior to the slaying, Feil and Fedechko argued with one another because the accused wanted to have sex and she did not.

Feil lost his temper and proceeded to beat and then strangle her to death.

The accused waited 2 1/2 days before turning himself in to police, who then discovered the victim’s body in Feil’s Westbank home.

Police also found a notepad on the floor by the foot of the bed, with the words: “She pushed me too far. I’m an a..hole.”

At trial, Feil admitted he killed her but insisted that he lacked the necessary intent for murder and that he was guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter.

A B.C. Supreme Court jury in Kelowna, however, found Feil guilty of murder...

Upset At Anastasia Spilling Water on Arab MK?

You upset at that act of parliamentary misjudgment by this lady:

Well, in the US we had this:

On this day, Feb. 27, in 1859, Rep. Daniel Sickles shot and killed his wife's lover, who was the district attorney for Washington and the son of "Star-Spangled Banner" author Francis Scott Key. After learning of their affair, Sickles looked out of his home in Lafayette Park and saw Philip Barton Key walk by. Sickles shot and killed Key in the park.

Papers declared Sickles a hero for saving women from Key. His attorney, Edwin M. Stanton, later President Lincoln's secretary of war, successfully argued that Sickles had been driven insane by his wife's infidelity.

Sickles was acquitted, the first time temporary insanity was successfully used in a murder trial.

Sickles became a Union general and lost his leg at Gettysburg. The limb remains on display at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

But How Did They Know?

I have but one question after reading this:

Settlers Residents: Jerusalem high school teacher took part in violent left-wing protests

Parents at Jerusalem High School for the Arts complain about teacher identified in clashes between leftists, settlers local residents at a West Bank settlement of Anatot.

A Jerusalem high school teacher was among left-wing activists who violently clashed with residents [!] of the West Bank settlement community of Anatot two weeks ago, according to a recent complaint by the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council.

...At one point, the activists began hanging Palestinian flags and defaced a slogan that read "the Land of Israel for the Jewish people ["Am Yisrael"] by changing "Israel" to "Palestine."  Dozens of Anatot residents who saw what was happening came out and attacked the group of activists, consequently wounding some 20 leftists.

A resident of Anatot, who is the mother of one of the students at Jerusalem's High School for the Arts, apparently identified the teacher among the left-wing activists and filed a complaint with the school board.   The head of education at the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council joined the mother's complaint and urged the school board to rebuke the teacher.

...The Education Administration of the Municipality of Jerusalem rejected the complaints against the teacher.  "The teacher did not use violence and it is her full right as a citizen to take part in protests, even if such a decision does not bode well with some of her students," they said.

And my question is:

how did those administrators know she did not use violence?

How did they know?

Did they ask the police?

Did they believe the teacher?

or

Were some of the administrators there and witnessed the event?

Or, maybe they were the ones who were violent and themselves threw the rocks?

"When Settlers Attack: Understanding Settler Violence
against Palestine's Civilians"

with

Mr. Yousef Munayyer
Executive Director, The Palestine Center

Wednesday, 15 September 2010
12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
The Palestine Center

The Palestine Center presents an analysis of settler violence in the West Bank. We ask what type of violence occurs, who is most vulnerable and most targeted, where the violence is concentrated and what motivates it. We will present the results of an analysis spanning over 1000 events of settler violence, as well as trends in the violence over time, to better understand how these attacks affect Palestinians.

What's the ideological background to this?

Here:

It is easy to say that settler violence is a result of Israeli occupation and it's illegal settlements. That's because it is. But settler violence against Palestinian civilians is a daily event in the occupied West Bank and it deserves more acute attention.

Many Palestinians have had their lives affected by settler violence. More often than not, the victims are the most vulnerable in society...Many Palestinian civilians have been attacked by militant Israeli settlers and these attacks are on the rise. The Palestine Center initiated a research project to understand patterns of settler violence and we have coded over 1000 incidents of settler violence from January 2009 until today that will be part of an analysis presented here at the Center on September 15th.

Settler violence is varied, sometimes we see personal attacks, sometimes we see attacks on property like the uprooting of trees or arson. But the truly under-reported aspect of settler violence is the frequency with which it takes place. We hear about every single one of the rockets that come out of Gaza but rarely do we hear about the regular occurrences of settler violence in the West Bank. Statistically speaking, attacks take place every day.
I will be the last to pooh-pooh the problem.

And I will not take the very easy and correct way out: 95% of this "violence" done by "militants" is either a direct reaction to or and result of Arab violence done to person and property of Jews.

I will condemn, again, the so-called "price-tag" policy. It is immoral, criminal, wrong and counterproductive, in that order. I have tried to stem its spread.

But if the purpose of the above deliberation is overarching against the entire Jewish population of Judea and Samaria - Munayyer's research is in political repression and ethnic cleansing and he insists that there exists "an infrastructure of apartheid"-, I would suggest that those who live in glass houses not be too quick to throw stones. The Arab population has a long way to go to reach a proper level of behavior and attitude.

This conference might be verbal violence galore.

Difference Between Jews and Muslims

Remember that Great Neck incident of antisemitism?

When, in the face of an upcoming protest, Jewish and other officials pleaded for the Jews to ignore the self-described anti-Semitic and anti-gay group from Kansas that was coming to shout and scream?

My wife reported on it at her Shiloh Musings.

Well, Muslims respond differently, a bit, to a very similar situation:

Muslims Ask for Protection as Ramadan Approaches

Muslim leaders in Connecticut are asking police to ensure that they can worship without being harassed after a group was confronted on Friday.

Worshipers at the Masjid An-Noor mosque in Bridgeport were confronted by about a dozen members of Texas-based Operation Save America last Friday and the protesters left after about an hour.

"This is a war in America and we are taking it to the mosques around the country," Flip Benham, of Dallas, Texas, organizer of the protest, said, yelling at the worshipers with a bullhorn, the Connecticut Post reports.

Dhaouadi says he doesn't want to see worshipers caught in situations where things might escalate.

Operation Save America posted a response on its Web site calling articles about the protest “lies.”

"Things might escalate"?

Was that an intimation of a threat of violence by the Muslims?

Border Policeman Shoots Teenager Throwing Rocks Who Dies

No, this wasn't an Israeli border guard shooting an Arab youngster.

It was a US border agent shooting a Mexican kid to death.

Here:-

Mexico has demanded a full inquiry after a Mexican teenager died after a US border patrol agent opened fire from the US side of the border. The youth, believed to be 14 or 15, was found on the Mexican side under a bridge linking Ciudad Juarez with El Paso.

US authorities said the agent was defending himself and colleagues after they came under attack from people throwing stones and rocks. The FBI is investigating the incident.

More:-

The FBI said the agent opened fire during a confrontation with a group of suspected illegal immigrants trying to enter the US.

It said two people were arrested but the others retreated into Mexico, throwing rocks.

"The subjects surrounded the agent and continued to throw rocks at him. The agent then fired his service weapon several times, striking one subject who later died," the FBI said.

The teenager was identified as Sergio Adrian Hernandez.

And this:-

The US Border Patrol says rock attacks on its agents are frequent and capable of causing serious injury.

The issue of illegal migration, and the treatment of Mexicans on the border, is a source of abiding tension between the US and Mexico.

Last week Mexico made similar protests over the death of a Mexican migrant after he was given electric shocks by US agents who were trying to deport him.

Mexico's foreign ministry says its records show so far this year 17 Mexican nationals have been killed or injured by US immigration authorities, up from 12 last year and five in 2008.

Odd Choice of Description

Ynet's headline:

Palestinians injured by veiled settlers

Are men "veiled" or only women?

The adjective should have been "masked" I think.

P.S.

I do not support random indiscriminate violence nor do I support attacks on civilians or others unrelated to any instance of previous violence. I do believe in self-defense. Just in case you had doubts.

Polling Pals.

Haaretz reports:

Nearly 70 percent of Palestinian young adults believe the use of violence to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not very helpful, according to a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) study released Tuesday.

Only 8 percent believe violence is an important tool, the study, based on interviews with 1,200 Palestinians over the age of 17 in the West Bank and Gaza.

The study also found out that more than 80 percent of young Palestinians are depressed, and 47 percent identify themselves as Muslim rather than Palestinian.

Can you believe it?

But Was He Muslim Or...

...just a plain old French-Canadian bear trapper?

Passengers aboard a Canadian bus fled in horror as a fellow traveler viciously attacked his seat mate, repeatedly stabbing him and then severing his head, witnesses said Thursday. Police said a 40-year-old man was arrested after the grisly attack late Wednesday night aboard a Greyhound bus en route from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The suspect was captured as he tried to escape from the bus early Thursday about three hours after the violence, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Steve Colwell told reporters.

Authorities declined to provide details beyond that the victim had been stabbed. They said a motive hadn't been determined and refused to identify the suspect or the victim.

But passenger Garnet Caton said the victim, who appeared to be about 19, was sleeping with headphones on when his seat mate suddenly began stabbing him as the bus traveled a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway, a dozen miles from Portage La Prairie.

Caton, sitting just one seat in front of the two men, said he heard no exchanges between them prior to the violence.

"We heard this bloodcurdling scream and turned around, and the guy was standing up, stabbing this guy repeatedly," Caton said from a hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, where he and other horrified passengers were taken.

Caton said the driver stopped the bus when he became aware of the attack and passengers scrambled off. A short while later, Caton said he re-boarded along with the bus driver and a trucker who had stopped to see what was happening.

He said the suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and "was cutting his head off" with a large hunting knife.

"When he was attacking him, he was calm," said Caton. "There was no rage or, or anything. He was just like a robot stabbing the guy."

The attacker turned toward them and the three men quickly left the bus, blocking the door as the attacker slashed at them through an opening. The three secured the door to prevent the man's escape. Caton said the driver disabled the vehicle after the attacker tried to drive it away.

As the three guarded the door with a crow bar and a hammer, the attacker went back to the body and calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head.

Cody Olmstead, another passenger, said the man "dropped the head and went back and started cutting the body." Olmstead said the man later use the head to taunt police.

Forgotten History

A theater riot in 1849:

On 10 May, Forrest appeared in The Gladiator, but to a half-empty Broadway Theatre: his hardcore fans were busy elsewhere. The box office at Astor Place had been more successful at keeping tickets out of their hands this time, however, and despite some groups of catcallers Macready’s Macbeth ran all the way to the end of Act V, but by then the building was surrounded by a mob of 15,000 people. They were a volatile mixture of recent Irish immigrants furious with the English for their mismanagement of the potato famine, and diehard American nativists equally furious about the same mismanagement because it was flooding their city with Irish Catholic immigrants; but whatever their ethnic and gang loyalties all of them seem to have felt that the wealthy patrons of the opera house were unacceptably flouting the will of the people by giving Macready another hearing after the stormy verdict passed earlier in the week. They had been bombarding the building with paving-stones and trying to break through the hastily barricaded doors for some time when, pushed back against the walls so closely that there was no room to mount a bayonet charge, the troops assigned to its defence opened fire with rifles. At least 25 people were killed that night, and around a hundred injured; a small boy was crushed to death at the protest meeting in City Hall Park that followed the next day.

That was the Astor Place riot here.

How a Political Scientist Scares

The following excerpt I found in an interview conducted with Prof. Ian Lustick on March 4, 2002.

...in the book I wrote, Unsettled States, I tried to solve this question of whether the point of no return had been passed. I feel that I did by looking at it not in terms of one point of no return -- either it's impossible or it's possible -- but to two thresholds. If you want to keep all the territories in Israel, you have to make the issue of what to do with them disappear, and to establish what is called the hegemony of the idea of the greater Land of Israel. That's impossible for reasons that we've already discussed. Israel can't go past that threshold. But in order to get out, you have to risk a civil war in Israel, you have to risk the fact that groups, including the settlers and the right-wing parties, feel so strongly opposed to withdrawal that they will attack the government, they will try to assassinate the leadership. They will try to engineer disobedience in the army and the public at large. They will resist violently.

Now, while an attempt was made to engineer disobedience over the disengagement protests, an act the left-wing has been much more successful at and much more active in with ads in Haaretz, poems by Aharon Shabtai, and plays amd songs, etc., Lustick, someone I know well and who knows Israel well, methinks that Lustick either was taken in by Kach people or, in a self-fulfilling prophecy, sought this agenda because it fitted his outlook on the right-wing.

Just in case you dobn't know what I am referring to, there were no assassinations nor real violence on any meaningful scale.

Was this a scare tactic?
