Sisters!

The illness is worsening. I can't begin to quantify how much phlegm has come out of my face today. I am dang cute right now.

Kleenex and cold med haul yeah!

That's not the point of this post though.

Two of my sisters visited this week! They were on Spring Break and drove all the way from Ohio (where they stopped off the see our other sister) - there's 4 of us. It was much too short a visit, but it was so good to see them.

The first day we went out to lunch (in the WIAW post):

That afternoon took us thrift shopping.

I found 3 work skirts for a total of $6.39! what? I still need to wash them, but they're really cute.

There was a lot of selfie failure, these are the best of them:
Emma, Me

Me, Luna, Nicola

And lots of couch time with Luna.

On the day they came in, I had to go to evening clinic, so John took out the sisters for some live music. We watched some TV and eventually passed out.

Lots of coffee.

On Wednesday we went out to breakfast at Flying Star after sleeping in a bit.

This is the breakfast hash with tofu instead of egg

Look how cute they are!

I had to go to clinic in the afternoon, so the girls went to a salon for a bit until I finished. That night we cooked, bonded, watched The Voice on hulu, pretty much were lame but it felt exactly right.

And just like that the visit was over. They left the next morning in order to have plenty of time to drive back to Chicago.

So I made some Trader Joe's cinnamon rolls.

And said goodbye to my pretty girls.

Miss you already!

The good news is that I get to go visit Shannon in Ohio in about a week, so it's a full month of sisters.

Today I've been a shut-in, coughing all over the place and drinking piles of tea, but I have a couple fun posts in the works so stay tuned.

And Happy Weekend!

WIAW: Sick Edition

Hey all, Happy What I Ate Wednesday!

As always thanks to Jenn for hosting.

I'm super lucky right now to have my sisters visiting me for Spring Break. We're missing Shannon, but I'm headed to see her in a couple weeks.

Nicola, Me, Emma

Still sick. It's definitely now in the congestion stage. I have the worst time sleeping because I just keep waking up unable to breathe, I'm snoring, it's no fun. That's pretty much the worst of it right now though, I feel hazy during the day, bit of a headache, but I'm able to function.

I've been eating pretty weird lately, not getting hungry like I would usually expect and everything tastes weird, so I've just been eating what I feel like, usually around a meal time, so here's What I Ate Wednesday:

Breakfast: English muffin with almond butter and banana. This one's an old favorite that I love. Lately I've been breakfasting over work - that's a Pediatrics article and my rotation checklist in the background. While my sisters are here though I will try to do something more fun.

Lunch: Monroe's Calabacitas Fajitas. I get them steamed. SO much food and so good. They have my favorite salsa here in Albuquerque too.

Dinner: Soup and homemade sweet potato fries. This soup is from Costco, the veggie quinoa one from the refrigerated section. I've been really impressed with these - plenty of vegetables and they hold up well to add ins. The fries are just sweet potato sticks roasted 20 mins at 425 with oil, salt and rosemary. I like them with BBQ sauce, mustard and ketchup.

And several of these:

And plenty of this, my hot honey lemon cold remedy.

Snacks are sort of missing from this particular day, but my cold has really been messing with my hunger levels so I'm just doing my best.

Now I'm trying to cram in as much time as possible with my sisters while still having lots of work obligations.

Happy Wednesday, hope it's great!

Before and After

Before: I had a blog header shoddily designed in Paint.
After: I have set a really bland one until I have time to make a new one pay someone else to make me a decent-looking one.

Before: I didn't know what to do if I'm ever consulted about how to treat a chemical burn.
After: I've studied for my surgery test this morning, and I can tell you to wash it. Wash it well. Get the hose and irrigate that wound until you've used up all the water in southern California (or for 30 minutes). Then go to the ER.

Before: I had no idea how my sister Emma was doing in her first week of college.

After: I had an awesome skype convo with her and now I get to be jealous of her enormous dorm room and interesting classes.

Before: I had pretty serious roots growing out and general hair maintenance hot mess troubles.

Making my parents proud one crazy-eyed picture at a time.

After: Katie has restored me to presentable. All ready to start my new rotation on Monday (Pediatrics!) It's been over a year since I dyed my hair any color but dark red. I haven't decided if I like it better or not.

I felt soups awk (that's a Katie expression - for super awkward) standing on my front porch trying to take these pictures. Especially while trying to angle my face to minimize the break-out visibility.

Before anything else today I have to take that surgery test. After I'm going to Santa Barbara. Happy almost-weekend!

You Have a Moment to Lift Your Spirits.

Just let the troubles go for a second. Listen to this.

On Saturday I posted my favorite hymn: Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.

The version I found Saturday is great, but I this is infinitely better.

Oh, one more thing. I'd like to introduce you to my sister Shannon.

As you can tell, she's wicked good, and I'm wicked proud of her.
