Manila Bus Hostage Tragedy 8/23/10

"We can go on talking about racism and who treated whom badly, but what are you going to do about it? Are you going to wallow in that or are you going to create your own agenda?" -Judith Jamison

Upsetting tragedy.
I have read plenty of news articles and readers' comments about this and I couldn't help but bring in my two cent. The Filipinos are ashamed. The Chinese are angry. The Filipinos are angry. The Chinese are derogatory. The Filipinos are derogatory. The Chinese are racist. The Filipinos are racist. The Chinese are ... and it just goes on and on and on to a point in which the issue is not the issue anymore because so much has been said that caused so much tension and hatred.

To defend one's own is natural. To insult the other is a different story.
Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned. As long as you exist, you are going to make mistakes in whatever skin color you are or whatever group of people you come from. So will your neighbors. You will learn from it and hopefully do something about it. They will learn from it and hopefully do something about it. Can they forgive you for your mistakes? You damn hope so, right? Will you forgive them for their own shortcomings? You can answer that question yourself.

"World Peace" is impossible when tragedies like this happen everyday all over the world. We did this to ourselves. The human race is clearly flawed, we just make it worse day by day--pointing fingers, blaming everyone but our self. We've separated ourselves from everyone else and gave ourselves a label when clearly we all come from one race. Racism isn't natural. It is taught. Forgiveness isn't taught, it is learned. Hopefully this is what we learn from this, given that it may not happen today, but maybe tomorrow.
As an individual person, I have shared how I feel about this and I apologize for the pain that our fellow neighbor has caused the victims and their families..and everyone else who was deeply affected by this very unfortunate event.

Very well said, my friend. Hatred cannot be eased by more hatred.

Any kind of tragedy can happen anywhere. It just so happened that on that day, it happened on our backyard.

@jakey: thanks friend. it happens in everyone's backyard..

I think it's good to apologize but it's not our fault, bottomline, it's one crazed ex-cop's fault. How many Filipinos have died in the hands of foreigners in other contries? This is not the first time, and most definitely will not be the last tragedy, but all the hate must stop.

@glentot: I'm not apologizing because he is a fellow Filipino. I'm apologizing because he is a fellow human being. he is still our brother who has done people wrong. but you are right. the hate must stop.
