experiments
Over the past few weeks I have been reading about functional scoliosis. My #1 daughter has such. I was also learning about leg length decrepancies, and hip issues. I have come to the conclusion that some of us have inherited a hip issue which makes it so one hip doesn't fit quite right. This in turn causes that leg to be longer, which causes stress on the other leg and the back as they all try to compensate. So I have tried an experiment. This past week I have had my daughter and I wear one shoe insert. Luckily Her wierd hip is opposite of mine - wasn't that convienient! SO I wear the right foot leveler insert and she is wearing my left foot insert. she was trying it and seemed to think it was a good thing but she got a blister while running in thin socks one morning. So the next morning she ran without the insert and she was hobbling really bad when she came home. Having her wear the insert has helped with her back pain. She says she doesn't need to be adjusted as much and she isn't as sore. She has noticed that her right calf is sore. The poor muscle is having to adjust and balance again. So interesting! I don't want to have to have life stopping surgery if a lift is work able. Okay we still do lots of stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles around the hips and our cores. But we have less pain !!!! yayay!!!!

interesting..mine is the right hip...
How did you find out??
Do others in your extended family have this problem?
Rae's is the right hip, mine is the left. We found out about this as we have been studing Rae and I. Rachael went in for a full xray and they declared her functional Scoliosis. Then the Chiroprators and Physical therapists have told me for a while i have one leg longer than the other. I started checking my kids when the Dr. was telling me they usually find this when people are around 28 and it is starting to be Arthritis. She was taking her son in for surgery to help this same thing. I think Spencer might have it but haven't had the xrays and tests done. just wonder. so far, Rachael, Lilly and I are the ones with longer legs...
Wow! I think I'm gonna measure some legs...
At any rate, how nice that you may have found a solution that isn't surgery. Please keep us updated. BTW: did you measure the legs standing or lying down? From hip joint to sole? What was the difference range in each of you?
