On the March ...

This morning we are starting our newest challenge over at FarmQuest.  Our theme for the next month, in addition to the underlying "Farm or Country" which is always there, is "Nocturnal Animals."

As soon as I saw this clip art, owl image (it may even be a photograph but AI digital is so good these days, who knows for sure?), I knew I had to use it for my DT card.  Doesn't he look like he's determined to get home quickly before the sun can get any higher?  It's obviously waaay past his nocturnal bedtime!

I cut the image with a Tonic Studios die, matted it with white CS (also cut with another Tonic Studios die from that same set), and added brown, gingham ribbon to the top and bottom.  I tied a separate bow and added it to the top strip of ribbon.  That ribbon has been in my stash for longer than I care to remember, lying about, forgotten in the midst of brighter ribbon colors.  It originally came from Really Reasonable Ribbon and still had the paper sleeve on it, proving it was unused.

I printed the sentiment, then cut it with an Avery Elle die.  I mounted everything onto a kraft card base.

I love making masculine cards because they can be kept pretty simple in design, compared to feminine cards which tend to get over embellished (in my house, at least!)   Even when I do add ribbon, I find that the ginghams can feel masculine, especially when they are in the brown and black families.  But the real reason I do so many masculine cards is that I have more guys in my family than gals.  :-D

     Challenges:

Hope to see you playing along in our challenge this time.  It runs until March 26 so you have plenty of time to create something with a country flair and get it entered into our challenge.  We love being inspired by you!

Fall Roses

Last month, I won a challenge over at LeighSBDesigns and the prize was a coupon to their store and a chance to be a Guest Designer, using an image purchased with that coupon.   Today's card was made for my daughter's birthday which is in late October and I'm using the beautiful LeighSBDesigns image called Fall Roses.  My daughter loves yellow roses and the image just called for some autumn colors to enhance them.

I used water color paints to color the image, let it dry over night, then cut it with a QuicKutz square die.  The brown CS frame was embossed using my 'Linen' EF.  The sentiment was printed and cut with a Tonic Studios die.  I added two hand-tied bows, one made from yellow gingham ribbon and the other from brown satin ribbon.  I layered them together with fabric glue.  Everything was put onto a 5.5" x 5.5" card base made from heavy duty white CS.

A Love Potion

Good morning, again.  This is my 3rd post for today so be sure to scroll down for the other two if you came here first.  This is my post sharing my DT card for the first of our two February challenges at QKR Stampede.  My card actually has an image from Eureka Stamps, our sister company.  It's called "A Love Potion."  I wanted something I could use on a really simple, CAS design for a masculine Valentine.

Capital letters colored w ProMarkers
Edges inked w ProMarkers
Gingham ribbon
Hand-tied gingham bow

     Challenges:
Don't forget about our QKR Stampede challenge in the midst of all the other challenge which start on the first of the month.  We always have an "Anything Goes" theme.  You can use any image from any company but if you chose an image from QKR (or Eureka), your entry goes into a completely separate draw and that increases your chances of winning by a huge amount!

Teddy Bear Birthday Party

One more birthday card today and this time it reflects what happens when you have a birthday in the middle of the pandemic shutdowns.  You have to gather all your teddy bears into one place and let them have the party without you.  Social distancing, you know!  lol

The image is from Bugaboo Stamps and the card design is pretty CAS.

I based this on the sketch from Stella Says Sketch.

Oldest You've Ever Been

How about a card that has a total focus on the sentiment?  I think this sentiment is from Aud Sentiments but since I had it in a folder of things waiting to be used and who knows how long it's been in there, I simply don't remember.  Unfortunately, I didn't write anything on the back.

Garden Visit

I wish my summer garden looked this neat and tidy.  I'm afraid the weeds have taken over during these weeks of shoulder problems and doctor's orders to "do nothing."  I'm healing well now, but not enough to go out and undo the ravages of untended nature.  lol

The image is from  Lemon Shortbread.

April Showers

Where I live we had nearly twice as much rain in March as is normal but now into April, we've had no rain at all.  Having had severe drought over the last 5 or 6 years, we really need more rain so I'm hoping for a few more April Showers.  Maybe this card, featuring a darling image from Bugaboo Stamps, will help.

Of course, I used ProMarkers to color the image (my go-to favorites!) and then I cut it with a Tonic Studios scalloped die.  I added some Dew Drops to a few of the raindrops in the image, enhancing the water aspect.

I found a denim blue card base and wrapped it with some gingham ribbon from Crafty Ribbons, adding the image piece on top of that.  I did one of my signature, hand-sewn bows, shaping it to look like a butterfly to complement those in the image.  I added a tiny pompom as the butterfly's head.

Finally, I printed the sentiment and added it to the lower corner.

Cuddle a Kitty

Common wisdom says when you're feeling down, you probably need a hug.  At my house, it's a sure sign you need to cuddle a kitty.  :-D

The April challenge has started over at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies (no April Fool gag!) and our theme (as always) is Anything Goes with a Critter featured.  Our delightful sponsor this month is Digi Doodle Studios.  Although they generously supplied the DT with images to use, I chose one I already had in my collection, called "Kitty."

I used ProMarkers, chalks, and gel inks to color the image, then cut it with a die from Sizzix.  I printed and cut the sentiment with a die from QuicKutz.  I used a larger Sizzix die to cut the mulberry paper, then dampened the edge and 'feathered' it.

The satin ribbon was the last piece of it I had in my stash and I wrapped it around the card front.  I used my bow maker to tie the double layer, bow tie bow, using gingham ribbon.

I hope you're going to come and play with us this month.  Remember, you are not limited to cards for your entries.  You can enter anything which features a 'critter' on it.  We love being inspired by your creations.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Meant to Be

A really quick post this morning with only short prattling about how the card was made.  When I saw this sentiment/image at Bugaboo Stamps, I grabbed it right away but this is the first chance I've had to use it.  It's a sentiment I truly believe.  :-D

I based this on the sketch at The Outlawz.

I used ProMarkers to color the flowers, then cut the image piece with a rectangle die from QuicKutz, inking the edges before adding it to the striped background dp (Echo Park.)  I used a scrap of mulberry paper which has been on the desk for at least a month and grabbed the gingham ribbons, one to wrap and one to make into a bow.  I thought the 3 pearls on each side of the image piece would set that off a bit.

Hiding on Halloween

This is my second post for today so be sure to scroll down one post to see what I did for my GDT spot at Colour Crazy.

Today we start a new challenge at QKR Stampede and we have our usual "Anything Goes" theme.   I've done another Halloween card and used a QKR image called "Hiding."  I'm not sure if it's the hound or the jack-o-lantern that's hiding from the evil witch flying across the moon but they both look a bit nervous.  :-D

I used ProMarkers to color the image, then cut it with a Memory Box, stitched die.  I layered that onto pumpkin-gold CS and put that onto the white card front.  I wrapped orange, gingham ribbon around the card front, tied it, trimmed the tails, and added the witch which was stamped onto a die cut, foam, circle so that she'd look like she was flying across a full moon.

I know this is another CAS card but I prefer them to fancy cards because so many of my cards have to go in the mail.  I rarely make heavily embellished cards for that very reason.  Although this one has a few embellishments, it's still flat, light weight, and will easily fit into an envelope.

     Challenges:
Art Impressions
As You Like It
Aud Sentiments
