Thinking of You

This beautiful lady, surrounded by dahlias, comes from Ching-Chou Kuik, where they want us to use our favorite colors.  Of course, you couldn't guess from the card below that my favorites are always in the purple family - everything from periwinkle blue to lavenders and lilacs, to the deepest red-violet or burgundy.

I started with the sketch from Sketch Saturday.

I colored with my ProMarkers, then cut the image and the oval frames with dies from both QuicKutz and Spellbinders.  Stacking them all together gives some wonderful dimension to the card.

The strip of dp with the butterflies was in my scrap basket and I think it is from SU.  The background paper is digital and came from one of the sets at MHK Designs.

The large butterfly is machine embroidered using purple, white and black thread.

I'm so glad you stopped by for a visit.  If I haven't been by your blog over the last couple of weeks, it's because I'm still healing from a shoulder injury and, often, I have to decide whether to craft or spend time at the keyboard commenting.  I'll be around to catch up on my visits and comments as soon as I can.  In the meantime, I appreciate you visiting my blog even though I'm not reciprocating right away.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

A Rose by Any Other Name...

I was looking at the inspiration photo for the February challenge over at MHK Designs and went immediately to my collection of images from MHK.  I found these stunning roses and decided they would be perfect if I colored them in light to deep pinks.

I based my card design on this sketch from Viva la Verve,
although I broadened the design to fit my card shape.

I colored the image with ProMarkers, then cut both it and the frame with Sizzix dies.  Both the polka dot dp and the background dp were from my stash of scrap papers.  Since I was using wide sheer ribbon, I decided to layer it on top of the image instead of under it.  I found the layered rose in my stash and added it to the bottom corner for a bit of dimension and a tiny pop of green from the leaves.

We're getting close to the weekend again and I have big crafting plans, including some sewing and some machine embroidery.  I have a new data card with butterflies.  Maybe I'll have time for another embroidered applique card.  We'll see.

Goldfish and Seahorses

I have two cards to share with you today - both of which I made this morning and I couldn't decide which one to share today so I'm sharing both of them in the same post.

This first one features an image from MHK Designs and I can't remember the last time I did an image with such gorgeous fish in it!

I used a number of the colors from Stamping Sensations,
although my "pink" turned a bit coral.

I colored the fish bowl and fish with ProMarkers and chalks, then cut the image with a stitch, scalloped die from Memory Box.  The black background piece is cut with a die from Altenew and I love the way it gives the impression of bubbles in water.  I found sparkly, silver ribbon in my stash and used it to wrap the card front and tie the bow.

The sentiment is from the same MHK Designs set.

     Challenges: (for this card only)
Lil Patch of Crafty Friends
Pile It On
Ribbon Girl

My next card stays with the water creature theme and this time I've used a seahorse image called "Barbie Mate" from the challenge on Sasayaki Glitter's Facebook page.  I must admit, I'm not sure this seahorse is actually underwater since that would have a negative effect on his BBQ fire but he's grilling for all he's worth, regardless.     :-D

Again, I used my ProMarkers to color the image, sticking with ocean blues and greens, and this time I die cut it with a die from Spellbinders.  I added strips of double sided tape and used loose glitter to make all the sparkles around the frame.

I kept everything very CAS, adding only two scrap strips of embossed ("Linen" folder) CS and one tiny bow which I dyed to match with ProMarkers.

The weekend is fast disappearing and I hope you've stretched yours as far as possible.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Bottled Heather

I have strong Irish roots in my family tree and, while I've never been there myself, I remember one of my great-uncles sharing about the wonderful scent of heather when it was blooming on the 'moors' in Ireland.  Every time I see this particular bottle image from MHK Designs (Beautiful Bottles set), I think of him.

I also used flowers from another set by MHK Designs.  I thought they really worked well together and provided exactly what I wanted for the sketch.

I started with the sketch from The Outlawz.

I used my ProMarkers to color both the bottle and the flowers.  I fussy cut all of the pieces and then used a die from QuicKutz (oval with scallops) and another die from Spellbinders (plain oval) to cut the framing pieces from (my favorite color) purple and lavender CS.

The diagonal cut, kraft CS was embossed with my "Linen" folder and then attached to the card front.  I layered on the ovals and added the bottle and flowers, centering them as much as possible to fit the A2 card width.  One row of purple rhinestones and a small sheer bow finished off the card in style.  I do believe that those tiny bows I sew up are my favorite embellishments of all time.  I make  them by the dozens and always have them in my stash.  Mostly I make them from white ribbon because then they can be 'dyed' with markers I've used in my coloring to match whatever color I want for the cards.  Besides, bows work on either fancy or CAS cards, for gals or for guys.  A very versatile embellishment.  :-D

Beach Combing

     Happy 4th of July, USA!

Summer is upon us and that means travels to the mountains for some of us or off to the beaches for others.  Today I chose to celebrate the beaches (where I'll be next week!) and chose this fun and fabulous set from MHK Designs.  Beach combing was a bit different back in the day.  :-D

I actually used two different images from that set and blended them together.  I colored with my ProMarkers, and then hand cut the images to put them together.  They are layered onto a die cut and embossed frame (Amy Designs die) and that went directly onto the card front.

The textured ribbon is from my stash, as is the sheer ribbon I used to tie the triple-loop bow.

Early Strawberries

My first early strawberries, started in seedling pots indoors in February, were ripe enough to pick today so I had a couple sliced up on my cereal this morning!  Then I went directly to the craft room and made this card with a delightful image from MHK Designs.

I wanted something completely CAS with no embellishment at all.  I colored the image with my watercolors and inked the edges with ProMarkers.  There was already so much white space around the image that I used two different papers around the edges of the card front before adding the image.

     Challenges:

"Hoppy" Mother's Day

Hooray!  Today the first ever, monthly challenge over at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies begins and I'm so excited to be part of the team getting things started !  It's an Anything Goes challenge (not limited to just cards) but there is one requirement.  Your project MUST have some kind of critter featured on it.  We don't care if it's furry, feathered, has fins or scales, or is merely an insect but it must be a "featured" creature, not merely a teeny, tiny bug added as an embellishment.  :-D

Our first sponsor is MHK Designs and they are offering one free image set and one free digital paper set to the winner.   The team was given this darling bunny image and I decided that I'd use it for a Mother's Day card instead of for Easter.  In the animal kingdom, bunnies are some of the best moms ever.  :-D

The image is colored with chalks, then die cut with a scalloped, stitched die from Memory Box.  I also used that die to cut the black and white dp (DCWV Midnight Chic) circles.  The sentiment was computer generated and printed, then hand cut and applied.

I added the white, embroidered ribbon, the little hand sewn bow and the pink roses and called it done.

     Challenges:

I hope you're going to come play with us this month.  Actually, I hope you'll become a regular visitor to the new blog and play in the challenge each month.  You can read all the details of the challenge on the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies blog.

This is the first of three posts which I'm doing today and each of them is a DT creation for challenges starting on the first of the month.  Please stop by again later to check out the other two.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Spring Window

I'm playing again in the Progressive Challenge over at The Outlawz and this month the image comes from Beccy's Place.  I had the opportunity to work with her "Autumn Window" digi several months ago and I loved it so could hardly wait to get this "Spring Window" colored.  I had even more fun with this one!  Now I need to go back and see if Beccy has Winter and Summer Windows, too.  :-D

I used a combination of chalk markers and ProMarkers to color the image.  I cut it into a rectangle and then used a corner die (Memory Box) to cut and emboss it.  I also used that die to cut a piece of periwinkle CS, and fussy cut just the flowers to layer on top of it.

I distressed the edges and then matted the image with a scrap of that same CS and added mulberry paper behind the die cut corner.   Both the background papers came from MHK Designs but the darker one is printed onto lilac paper and looks more purple than pink.  Finally, I layered on the white flowers and the bow.  Nothing CAS about this one but since it's so frilly and feminine, I'll probably use it for one of the female birthdays in my family or maybe a Mother's Day card in May.

I'm starting my weekend and I have plenty to keep me busy.  The list is getting longer every day and as spring approaches, I find myself wanting to get spring cleaning out of the way and play in my garden.  I have bulbs to plant (a gift from my daughter) and I want to get veggies in this year.  Freezes are done and I can safely plant seedlings.  There's just nothing better on a hot summer day than raiding the garden and making a cool salad for lunch or dinner.  Yum, I can hardly wait!    Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Winter's Wild Rose

I was walking through a field near where I live and ran across a wild rose bush with two hardy and determined blooms proclaiming their love of the rain we've had over the last 2 weeks in the midst of year five of the worst drought in recorded weather statistics.  I was so impressed by that rose bush, I came home and made this card, using a beautiful image from MHK Designs.

Since December was my last month on that DT, it feels good to be using one of Mynn's lovely images again.  And this time, I get to play in the challenge over there instead of having done a DT card for it!   :-D

I started off with the sketch from Sketch Saturday
but I flipped it top to bottom.

I used chalk markers to color the rose then cut it and the light pink frame, which is patterned dp,  with dies from Sue Wilson.  The lace is new, one of the goodies I found at the after Christmas sales.  The deep pink dp is also from MHK Designs, but after I printed it, I ran it back through the printer to print outline images of the same rose onto it.

The feather was in my stash and I only remembered to add it because I had been cleaning and reorganizing my craft room and ran across the box of feathers I have on hand.  Do you ever "lose" things in all the supplies you have?  No, no, don't fib to me about it!  lol

I plan to use this one as a birthday card.

The Write Stuff

Here we are on the 5th and final day of the December release over at MHK Designs and I do believe this one, "The Write Stuff" set, is my favorite of all the sets this month.  Of course, I probably felt that way about each of the sets as I was using them.  :-D  You can see a photo of the entire set at the bottom of this post.  There are so many images and sentiments!

Here's the one I chose for my card.

I wanted a totally masculine card this time since I'm going to be using it as a birthday card for a friend who has a Christmas birthday.  I like to make two cards for him each year so that his birthday doesn't just get lost in the holiday.

I used pale blue chalks to color the hand and the background shading, then I cut it with a plain rectangle die (Spellbinders.)  The frame was a leftover from another die cut project (Bo Bunny) which I trimmed to fit the rectangle.  I added texture mesh and ribbon to the background, added the image and the sentiment, and then tied the bow.

I'm sad to say that this is the last new card I'll make for the MHK Designs DT.  My term is up at the end of the month and it's with a sad heart that I have chosen to leave the team.  I just need more down time for a while longer.  I've already warned Mynn that I plan to apply again for following term.  I'm sending Christmas Blessings to all the friends I made at MHK Designs and I'll still be around playing in the challenges each month.  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Fanciful Feathers

This is the fourth release from MHK Designs for December and it's called "Fanciful Feathers."  I've added a photo of the complete set at the bottom of this post.  I love the sentiments included in this set!

Of course I had to use my favorite color combo, turquoise and purple.  I colored the feather with chalks and fussy cut it.  I mounted it with dimensional dots onto some lovely purple dp from the MHK Designs set of papers, "Easter Flowers."  The turquoise paper is from that same set.

I printed and hand cut the sentiment, and everything is matted with purple CS.  The ribbons are from Really Reasonable Ribbon and the bow is one of those I make up by the dozens but it was white and I used a ProMarker to "dye" it.

Don't forget there's still almost a week to play in our November/December challenge, which runs through December 15, and which has a lovely inspiration photo.  There is no December/January challenge since Mynn is giving time off to the DT so they can celebrate the holidays with their families.

Stitched Tea Party

Here it is Day 3 of the December releases at MHK Designs and today we're featuring projects using images and sentiments from the "Stitched Tea Party" set.  I love this set!  So versatile and the sentiments are fun and friendly.  There's a photo of the set at the bottom of this post.

To 'color' the image I used papers from the "Get Well Flowers Papers" set and from the "French Country" papers set.  Of all the digital papers at MHK Designs, these are two of my all time favorites.  I did add glitter to the center of the purple star flower and the little daisy on the teapot.

I cut the image and the green mat with a Stitched Circle die (Memory Box) and layered them in an offset design.  The sentiment is also cut with a die from that set.  I added the five little rhinestone flowers for embellishment but beyond that, left it clean and simple for easy mailing.

Realistic Roses

This post features the "Realistic Roses" set from the second of the December releases at MHK Designs.  I love these roses!  I've added a photo of the complete set at the bottom of this post.

The sentiment and the roses are printed together and I colored this one with my ProMarkers and with gel ink pens for the highlights.  You'll notice that I flipped the image before I cut it with a simple rectangle die from Spellbinders.  The framing die cut is a piece left over from another project and the die set is called "Enchanted Forest" by Cheery Lynn.  It was such a perfect fit!

The papers are from the "French Country" and the "Get Well Flowers Paper," both of which are from MHK Designs.  The flower embellie layers were cut from inked watercolor paper, run through an embossing folder, then sprayed with water so they would curl.  After they dried completely, I layered them together and added gem brads to hold them.

I colored with chalks this time and cut the image with one of my newer die sets from Spellbinders.  I added light pink "negative" scraps from another die cut (same set of dies) to add to the framing of the petunia.  The bow is a double loop made from lace and satin ribbon with a tiny pink button in the center.  The sentiment is part of the Pretty Petunias set.

Christmas Around the World

I hope all of you in the U.S. had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and I want to share a card which might inspire you to get a start on those Christmas cards which you still need to make.  Only five more weeks, can you believe it?

This is from my DT Inspiration post from the MHK Designs blog.

For this one, I used the globe image from the "Rock My World" set and "Distressed Dots" dp from the "Glorious Gardens digital papers" (see photos of the sets below.)  First I printed the paper, then ran the paper through my printer a second time to print the globe directly on top of it.

I used a die set from Die-Versions to cut the Santa and Sleigh twice, once in brown and once in eggshell white, then layered them together, slightly offset.  I  printed and matted the sentiment.  In finishing, I added only the three red pearls in each corner and the single red bow, wanting the focus to be on the image, not the embellishments.

Snowflakes from MHK Designs!

If you haven't yet had your first winter snow, (I know lots of areas have been too warm recently) this card is especially for you, and to wish you snow for Christmas.  :-D   It's also made for the latest challenge at MHK Designs although I didn't follow the Inspiration photo but you can if you don't use an MHK Designs image. You can find it on the MHK Designs blog.

I used the snowflake images from the MHK Designs "Sled Friends" set, printed directly onto dp from the "Snowy Season" set.  The sentiment is also matted with that same dp.  I used white EP to color the snowflakes and cut all three pieces (snowflakes and sentiment) with hexagon dies from QuicKutz.

The angled background dp is from the "French Country" set and it's one of the 'Star Brick' options.  I added the lace and a large, white, grosgrain bow.   Everything is mounted onto haze gray CS.  I think it's a perfect Christmas card.  :-D

Strawberry Blossoms

Well, if you've been visiting each day this week, you've seen all five of the new October releases from MHK Designs.  Today, our new challenge starts and we have a beautiful Inspiration Photo for our theme.  You can find that photo on the MHK Designs blog or look at the bottom of this post, next to the photo of the Chicken In set.  Remember, you are not required to use an MHK Designs image on your card but if you do, then the challenge theme is "Anything Goes" and you need not use anything from the inspiration photo.

This image is the second one from the newly released set, "Chicken In."  The other ones are the Rooster and the Chicken Wire I used earlier this week.  I colored it with chalks and ProMarkers, the cut it with a die from Spellbinders.

The dp is also from an MHK Designs set, called "Holly Days."  In order to get that look, I reduced the height of the paper and lengthened the width slightly, in essence squashing and stretching it.  This is a relatively new technique for me and I love the way the pattern looks.  I've adjusted the size of digital dp before but always kept the ratio of height and width; never before have I squashed and stretched it.  I've just found a new reason to love digital dp.  :-D  The digital paper was printed onto a scrap of white CS, then I punched the corners with a Fiskars punch.  The sentiment was also printed on a scrap but it was hand cut and matted with another scrap.

The ribbon was 'reclaimed' from another project which was headed for the trash can and I think it is a perfect complement for the dp and coloring.  The sentiment is also from Chicken In set.

     Challenges:

Pixie's Snippets

This is my second and last post for today but I hope we're going to see you playing in our challenge this month.  It will run until the 15th of November so you still have almost 3 1/2 weeks to get an entry in.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Day 5 at MHK Designs

This is the last day of the October release from MHK Designs and we're giving you a head start on New Year Greetings, which is the name of this set.  Yes, I know it's early but I always get so caught up in Christmas that I often forget about the New Year.  This year, I've already gotten 5 cards done, all using this particular set.  Here's the first one I did.

I really like Mynn's retro image which I colored with ProMarkers and metallic gold and silver ProMarkers.  Hard to see in the photo but it gives a spectacular shine to the card.   I die cut the image with a die from Spellbinders, and then framed it with another plain octagon die cut (QuicKutz.)  That's metallic gold paper which also adds some shine.

The ribbon is metallic and I added a simple white pearl to the bow.  The sentiment is part of the set (see photo below) and I matted it with the same gold paper.

Perfect Poinsettias

OK, it's Day 4 of the MKH Designs October Release and, as promised yesterday, I'm sharing another Christmas card.  I used the image and one of the sentiments from today's new set, "Perfect Poinsettias" and I just love how this turned out!

Today I colored with my ProMarkers, then die cut it and the Hunter Green frame with two of my framing dies from Spellbinders.  I threaded white satin ribbon through the larger frame and added one of the bows I sew by the dozens, each with a pearl.  The sentiment was printed, hand cut and matted, then hand cut again.

This is such a gorgeous, classic Christmas set and, although I have other poinsettia stamps in my collection, I do believe this one is my favorite for hands-on coloring.  The sentiments available in the set means it can be used for most of the winter holidays.  Or 'summer' holidays if you live down under.  :-D   Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
