Each balmy midmorning outside a prestigious estate in in lavish Palm Beach, I witnessed an unerring monk deep in meditation: a tranquil caretaker sweeping the street with a palm frond. 

Palm fronds symbolize victory, triumph and INTEGRITY.

Our Christmas turned out sickly and stormy, but it was also curiously easygoing, exceptionally intimate and required a remarkable combined effort - an ESPRIT DE CORPS !!!

Peekaboo

Headed through the mountains for a ski weekend and WOOSH hit the eye of a storm. Standstill for hours in a heated car, encircled by blizzard, with four sleeping children plus one large pooch in the back. Are finally able to pull off, U turn and creep treacherously home. No longer on a jubilant trip, BUT, no one knows we are in town. Multitudes of RSVPs have been previously kindly declined. SO play sweet HOOKIE for the entire weekend !!!!!! Two days of sleep, snow play, veg-ing out and cooking-in during the fanciest most frenetic time of the year !!!!!! Ah sweet indulgent naughty bliss.

Kids love to use it as their cut-out and embellish cookie dough; so easy to mix up we do it nearly every weekend of the season.

A decidedly undaily occurrence - a meaningful affair with Very Important People !!!

 

100’s of elves

How many elves to bring into the workshop ?? Of course there is no right answer !!

“Two is twenty”; you hear the sayings - expect each additional family member to increase the whole lot exponentially. 

Here is a real-life EG from our family:

0 children - mom cleans small apartment solo.

1 child - cleaner comes 1x every 2 weeks in streamlined new home.

2 children - mom begs cleaner to come 1x per week. Cleaner cannot. OK.

3 children - new cleaner hired, comes 1x per week.

4 children - cleaner comes 2x per week at much higher rate. Extra help is hired. She comes the other 3 days for laundry, kitchen and everything else on ‘the list’. That’s 5 days of housekeepers.

Big houses may be out of fashion, but at this stage in life, the McMansion is so my style !!! 😉

This extended side angle gal dons an apron for she is disagreeable as of late from her endless responsibilities, including those in the cuisine. And from bygone pain returning to haunt her and… and…

Time is turning under the plough,
Under the stars, under the signs,
The ploughman toils with deep furrowed brow.

Grandma so sweetly saved a dress I gave away - luckily to her - at least 20 years ago. My daughter wears it here to her Harvest Faire where she danced and sang the above song as a willful, courageous and wise queen: the attributes we must gather like nuts as we enter into Autumn and Winter.  

Purging is an all seasons favorite. Perhaps even my most favorite. But, beware! What they say in nearly every ‘letting it go’ style scripture - that ‘you’ll never miss a single item’ - is so not true!! I’ve had many many many missteps (as in, over donating again and again). That is the fee for tidiness and circulation of energy. These little “oopsies, I really wish I still had that,” are the price of admission for fresh beginnings, SPACE and sometimes, new things.

Lavish in the mundane, perpetual tasks of motherhood by adding your flair. This daily grind is, after all what you likely dreamed of and manifested when hoping and praying for offspring. Execute duties and chores with finesse and distinction!

My architect, while building our home 2 years ago, told me "everyone has a budget". It may be $100 or $100,000,000, less or more, but $s aside, everyone has confines they must (better!) work within.

ORDER is your mantra

Ask yourself : Will this increase chaos or align me towards order?
Your chosen script, your directive, your health, your freedom, YOUR order ...

The trick of creating chaos and then seizing power under the pretense of putting things back in order is a tried and true method of deception and manipulation. It's the meaning behind the Latin motto: ORDO AB CHAO meaning ORDER OUT OF CHAOS.

Q: Is someone making money off of this/you? A: That's chaos. Order cannot be purchased. Order is the Universe, it is Nature. Order is FREE!!!

The last post discussed finding our lithe figure through polishing, but as we know a gleaming frame is no easy feat. And as Marie Kondo has discovered and shared perhaps our environment is instead the place to commence. 

A clean, fluid, bright home built honorably and soundly with beautiful, natural materials will provide endless pleasure and can bestow lifelong health. All the decorating in the world will only mask fundamental flaws.

Probably not what one wants to hear, but consider moving or renovating over decorating. 

To put "lipstick on a pig" is  rhetorical expression, used to convey the message that making superficial or cosmetic changes is a futile attempt to disguise the true nature of a product or person.

Nesting - the instinct to ready your space for new baby - should be all about cleansing and removing, not about adding and complicating. Go with your gut and protect yourself from acquiring more when waiting for bébé. Hormonal, excited and perhaps a little afraid you are a marketer's dream target. Try your best not to shop and find creative ways to divert superfluous gift giving: ask for books or bare essentials like diapers and immediately donate or pass along overflow before it even makes it into your 'shelter'. Excess will only have you swimming upstream! Instead, go with the flow and follow these no-shopping nesting rituals (click). Basically, nothing will feel as good as clearing out, decluttering, and simply cleaning.
