Bento #11

I prepared this today for J as lunch after his weekly enrichment class. He likes eel so hubby bought this when he saw it in supermarket. We usually have when I made sushi as dinner. It's an easy to prepare meal for me as I only need to prepare the sushi rice and steam the eel.

I added pumpkin flakes which I got from Isetan some time ago to the uncooked rice and cooked together till the rice is ready. I steamed the eel and placed it on top of the cooked rice. I also prepared grapes in the side dishes containers. I used food picks to make the grapes look like balloons, rings, umbrellas and flowers. Niece also attracted to them, she arranged the food picks nicely on the table after she finished the grapes.

I used this mini bento set from Tiger as it can keep the rice warm with the thermal cup container. I like this bento set very much so decided to get a set. There're many designs for similar bento set in market. Hubby find this bento set is good and has an insulated carrier so decided to bring this bento set when we going to Hokkaido next month. We can use this to pack food for J, in case he gets hungry when we're on the road.

Hello Kitty Fishcake

J & ZY met up to go for a class party today. So I made lunch for ourselves with some of the new food I got over the weekend. I saw supermarket sell sweet beancurd skin for sushi, so got a pack to try out to see if J likes it. I saw Hello Kitty fishcake in Takashimaya cold storage so got a pack to make the food interesting. I used bear and star shape cutters to cut the carrots.
Since ZY & J likes quail eggs, i decided to include into today's bento for them. Both boxes consist the same food. The 1st sushi consist of crab sticks, rice and decorate with bear & star carrot as topping. The 2nd sushi consist of carrots, rice and Hello Kitty fishcake. I used beancurd skin for both sushi. I pack the remaining carrots and quail eggs in the silicon cups.
This is the adults' bento. Both boxes consist the same food. The sushi consist of rosemary chicken and I decorated the sushi with Hello Kitty fishcake. I marinated the chicken with rosemary herbs and all purpose seasoning, and pan fry with margarine. The herbs can easily found in supermarkets.

Simple Packed Lunch

We went to zoo this morning but I woke up late so prepared easy-to-cook food to pack as our lunch for the outing.

I made curry made from Vermont japanese curry cubes. I boiled the chicken carrots till cooked then add in cabbage and the curry cubes, the curry is ready within 1 hour. I packed the curry in a leak proof tupperware container instead of the usual lunch boxes I have as I don't want to risk having a curry scent cooler bag. I packed rice in the red lunch box for my boy decorated with powdered seaweed using one of the stencil I have. I sprinkled some furikake over a bear outline stencil for the rice in the pink lunch box for my hubby and Korean glass noodles which I got from a Korean supermarket in Singapore. The glass noodle can be found in usual supermarket nowadays. I packed hubby's and mine lunch in the 2-tier Hello Kitty lunch box. To maintain the curry to be hot or at least warm, I packed all the food in a Hello Kitty cooler bag. I also freeze 2 bottles of water and packed them in another cooler bag so we have cold drinks for the hot weather.

I made japanese curry for the 1st time from those curry cube. It's an easy to make curry, doesn't take much time to prepare this dish. I used carrot and boneless chicken drumstick. I used cherry tomato juice to cook the rice. I think I used too little tomato, the color doesn't show much in the rice. I packed the dinner into Mickey Mouse 2-tier lunch box to surprise J. He likes his dinner and finished everything.
