Collection Showcase: Glitter Hair Barbie

I'm back! I had a great vacation and honestly, not yet ready to go back to reality. But vacation has to end sometime right? (Unfortunately.)

Last post we saw some photos of the Barbie's vacation to Hawaii. There are two dolls that I have not featured yet on this blog. One of them will be featured today!

A doll from my childhood collection. The most fabulous Glitter Hair Barbie. And she loves the sun for sure!

As cute as this dress is (loving the glitter skirt!) the picture on the top is a representation of a logo that we don't see anymore.

www.kookykitsch.com
LA Looks Styling Gel! Do they even sell this anymore? So contrary to what some might think, she is actually Glitter Hair Barbie not LA Looks Barbie. But the fun part of this doll is she actually came with her own bottle of LA Looks Glitter Gel to use for styling her hair. I put streaks down her hair which are barley visible anymore but I tried to photograph anyway.

Then I never used it again because I was meticulous with my dolls! (And it was never ever okay to use it up, haha, can't believe I was like that!)

I love palm trees. I've always been fascinated with them. Which makes me especially fond of her awesome earrings!

And even though she is wearing a dress, she comes with pink sneakers.

Glitter Hair Barbie came with 3 different dolls. All named "Barbie" yet they have different hair colors.

www.beamly.com
A blonde, brunette, and redhead. You might recall last year I scored the redhead at the thrift store. You can check out the post here!

Here is Barbie and her sister posing in the warm sun.

Beautiful dolls. I actually had some fun with the redhead. When I got her I put glitter in her bangs. :)

Glitter Hair Barbie came with the accessories shown. Tube of glitter gel, the comb that screws onto the gel tube, and a visor.

I think I'll keep the visor on for now. It's actually really cute on her!

And I am mistaken! Upon researching this doll the trial size of the LA Looks Gel did not come with this Barbie. It came with a Happening Hair Fashion that I cannot find a picture of. I did find a picture of the back of the box though. I can find the other three fashions but not this one. It's third from the left with the cute little half top and jeans.

www.ebay.com
When I saw pictures of the other three outfits I knew I had that top with the fun stripes.

As before, these dolls with the long hair are seriously after my heart. I was so lucky to find the redhead doll with her original length hair as some little girls love playing beauty parlor! Maybe someday I'll be able to pick up the brunette doll.

Side note: I went to the thrift store before I went on vacation and did not find ONE doll! Sad times!

Do any of you have Glitter Hair Barbie or these super cute Happening Hair Fashions? Let me know in the comments!

Our other mystery doll from the Barbie Vacation will be featured soon! Also some updates from the Benny sewing project!

Until then!

Back from Vacation and $8 of Goodness

Hello all!

I'm finally back from vacation. I had a lovey time in Maui! The weather was perfect and it was the best time swimming and snorkeling and boogie boarding and body surfing and.....well, just everything!

Here is a picture from our trip. Me and my hubby by the palm tree.

But now I'm back and ready with more Barbie awesomeness!

So I went to the thrift store and got another load of Barbies!

I wasn't very impressed with the service at the store this time around. There was a new guy and girl there, not the usual eclectic, new age, fun girls that are there. But I will tell you that I got a whopping 38 dolls! When I went up to the counter with my stash, this is the conversation that played out.

Me: I know this looks a little strange but I love dolls! (laugh)
Girl: (no laugh, no smile) Well...some of these dolls have price tags on them.
Me: Well, they are usually $1 per pound, that's usually what all the toys are.
Girl: (starts taking dolls out of the bag) well, there are prices on some of them because they are collector.
Guy: (Sitting back behind the counter on a laptop) I checked all those dolls.
Girl: You checked ALL of these?
Guy: Yeah, all of them are not real collectible. They all say 1967 or so on the back which is the year of the mold.
Me: You know your dolls!
Guy: (smiles)
Girl: Ok, we'll do it by the pound.

Note that the last time I got dolls there were the same tags on them. Most read $2. They are not the tags the store uses because theirs say "ReGroup" on them. I'm thinking that these were at a yard sale or other store and didn't sell so they donated them. Every time I have got dolls I have paid $1 per pound. Even when I bought 3 pieces of doll clothing (which weigh nothing) I paid $1 because the money goes to Hospice so that is a good cause.

I'm willing to pay for dolls what they are worth. I will not rip someone off but if I can get a bargain, I do it. Especially for dolls with the old body style. But when I have paid $1 per pound in the year I have been going to that store and they are in that section, I expect to pay what they are signed at. If they wanted to go by the tag price (again, that was not their stores tags) then they should have moved them.

I like the other girls better. They actually talk to you and laugh with you and have fun. Also note that I have never been there on a Thursday. I'll continue to go on Friday when the other staff works.

Okay, ready for the magnificent 38? Some are very unique so I'll need some ID's! (Andrea!)

First we have another sparkle haired doll exactly like the one I got before. I think this one's hair is a little longer. I may put her in the "Barbie Club" crop Tee and shorts set after I give her a bath. The next has black painted on leggings and a swimsuit. However, it does not fit real well on Barbie. Her chest is too big. Maybe a Skipper swimsuit? I'm sure it would fit my Jazzie doll! The next is Glitter Beach Barbie. I have her already and put her in a nice Hawaiian ensemble. I think I will use this one because the other one has some terrible black spots on her legs that I can't seem to remove. Probably from the spray glitter she came with. The next is a generic doll.

Glitter hair Barbie looks like this one from last time.

Here is my Glitter Beach Barbie!

Next we have some fully anatomical dolls! The one on the left only has the arms. The two in the middle have both moving elbows and knees and flat feet. They are also wearing clothes that are way too big. The one on the right is so pretty. She has this cute lingerie with pink bow earrings. So cute.

This doll has golden hair but is not a Barbie. I don't know what she is! But tell me, is this the jumpsuit from Great Shapes Barbie?

She has faded looking eyes. Maybe she goes to sleep when you rub icy water on them? Kind of like Bedtime Barbie? Sorry for the blurry picture but her irises have stars in them.

Next we have a little bit of a mix. We have a non-Barbie with a split waist. A Barbie, a darker skinned Teresa with a beaded necklace and another non-Barbie wearing some kind of dress?

This "dress" reminds me of Dance Magic Barbie where when you take off her skirt, her dress becomes a ballet outfit. I don't think this is complete! Also, her head fell off and was pushed on so a high-necked outfit may be ideal for her.

This is the one from the left. She has glass eyes. Very pretty.

Now we have some interesting ones. The one on the left has an interesting lower section. It's not like "panties" like some of the older dolls. It's more round? I guess? The next is a non-Barbie wearing a strange dress, an older Barbie and a newer Barbie.

Here is a close up of the dress. I don't think it's genuine Barbie. It fits the waist fine but the halter top is way too big.

Our next group has the new body types. I'm not sure what the one on the left is. A Disney maybe? The one on the right has a pretty pink streak in her hair!

Now we have body types both new and old. The one on the right has anatomical knees but I had a hard time sitting her up as they are very loose. But take a look at the second doll.

This waist is soft and squishy. I have NO idea who she is!

So now we have more old and new bodied beauties! Left has anatomical arms. Then a new body, then a generic old body, then a dark skinned new body. Who is she?

Now we have a new body, another squishy waist doll, an old body and a beautiful AA doll. She is wearing a bead necklace and has somewhat of a do-rag attached to her hair. Any one know who she is?

This doll is a little odd. She must be a runner or something because when her legs move, her arms swing back! She's cute though!

Now the last group. First a non-Barbie wearing a peasant dress (it seems to fit okay, not perfect though.) A Snow White wearing a Cinderella dress that doesn't fully close in the back. A new bodied Barbie with pink legs. Maybe a ballerina? Then the last doll, a generic old body.

I lied. I do have a few more. A couple of McDonalds dolls and a little Kelly!

I also got an extra leg. It's plastic, not vinyl but it will do when I need another leg for something. I also had to pass up a couple of dolls. I passed by a Twilight Edward doll. He had one entire foot chewed off and the other foot was 3/4 of the way chewed off. I might have picked him up in the mix had his feet been intact but he is a BIG doll! I don't think Ken's clothes will fit! I also passed up a beautiful good condition Ariel doll. I loved the red hair but her hips were very big. Again, no clothes would have fit them. There was a small and skinny Tinkerbell doll and then a few Bratz (with no feet though!) All in all, I did well with this run!

I hope you all get a chance to read this and help me with some identification. I am so bad at finding out what dolls are so I'm glad I have readers like you to help!

Until next time!

Thrift Store Goodies and Clothing Fun

I had a fun experience with the Boo-tiful Halloween Dress. I had all my freshly washed clothes laying out in the bathroom. I went in there to take a shower and then after my shower I turned off the light and started to leave. However, the dress caught my eye and startled me because it was glowing! I should have known but it was cool nontheless!

Okay, on to the goodies!

First, we know who this girl is (mainly because I have her.) The palm tree earrings are a dead giveaway.

She is Giltter Hair Barbie and she came with three different hair colors. My dolls hair is blond and this girl is a gorgeous redhead! I washed her hair so it's nice and shiny.

I dressed her in something to match the earrings. A fun 90's pink and purple party dress and bolero jacket. So cute!

I picked up a couple of Hannah Montana dolls too! Here is the first one.

She came wearing a pair of distressed jeans. There are not a ton of Hannah dolls out there so I looked for some that had the same type of jeans. This is what I found.

The Hannah Montana In Concert Collection. But the doll I have doesn't sing. I wonder if she came in a non-singing version like some of the singing Barbies do.

Here she is. She still needs the cute teal shirt. Don't worry, she won't be displayed like this. Just a little risque!

Remember that this was "Carolyn's" favorite jacket?

Nothing a little oxy-clean and a toothbrush can't remove.

The other Hannah Montana doll. This one I dressed in the Secret Star Sleep Over outfit I got last week. She is holding the robe she comes with because you can't get it on over the puffy sleeves on the nightshirt. I love it!

Other finds. There were a lot of these Disney dolls in the mix. She looks like a Tinkerbell. I didn't take them because I wasn't thrilled with the body types. This one has a older style Barbie body so I figured I could use it if I have a spare head.

A pretty Teresa with the older style body.

This lovely lady has a pretty face.

She has to be a fairy. But how do her wings move? I don't have the wings but I didn't see a button or something to flutter the wings.

And I mentioned in the last post that I picked up the Liv "It's My Nature" Sophie doll. I took Andrea's advice and bought it for the articulated body. I never had a doll with articulated ankles!

Since I had her original outfit I decided to dress her in it.

You know, I kind of like her! Her glass eyes are really pretty. I don't usually like dolls with big heads but it doesn't seem that inproportionate to the rest of her body. Not like Bratz dolls or anything.

I was searching for the "It's My Nature" dolls and apparently there are a few of them and they all have a different outdoor hobby. Sophie is the snow bunny hair stylist. I have the hat and I WISH I had that super cute vest!

Check out this link for some really cute pics of Sophie and her friends.

It's My Nature Sophie - a photoset by ★dms_a_jem★ on Flickriver

So I think that Sophie will have to go on my shelf.

I got a few pieces of clothing too.

A cute sparkly gold shirt

Another cute sparkly shirt

Cute blue shorts

And a nightshirt. I think this may be for a baby doll though.

All of the clothes don't have tags except for the shorts which have a tag that reads "myscene."

I also got some accessories!

Cute orange purse. Don't the Fashionistas have solid plastic purses?

And of course, some shoes. What's with the cloth boot? I wish there were two of the brown ones. Wonder which doll they go to.

And one last accessory. This cute directors chair.

Here is Sporty Fashionista proudly displaying her vintage friends.

Okay, some clothing fun.

The Boo-tiful Halloween dress came out about 2 shades lighter after I washed it and I worked on the other little spots and got them out too.

So I put it on this doll.

I might take it off though. The sleeve did not want to go over her bent arm so it's really tight. But I wanted to put it on a doll with this face.

Remember Skipper? Her hair was really flyaway and was kind of smelly so I washed it when I washed Glitter Hair Barbies.

I was going to put this outfit on the Generation Girl Dance Party Tori. However, her dirty nose did not come clean so she will have to stay in the box until I can work on it some more. So I dressed my Skipper. And now she has really nice and shiny hair (and awesome smelling too!)

The jacket with stars fits great. The shirt is just a little big but not as big as a Barbie shirt. The skirt is huge so I tucked the shirt in to kind of hold it there. Not a bad look for Miss Skipper!

Maybe someone can help me ID these boots. Super cute. SUPER tiny!

They don't fit a Barbie or a Skipper. I forgot to take a side pic but really, you can tell how small they are from this pic. They are super super tiny. They have a slit in the back so you can get them on easily. Maybe a Kelly?

That's it for this post! My mom also called and said she got me this years Halloween Barbie. I should be getting it around Thanksgiving so I'll post it up then. And maybe some more thrift store goodies in the next post! There was a lot of "stuff" at the toy bin and everything was everywhere. They should have it relatively picked up next time so I can try to find completions to outfits. We'll see!
