Giftages 2019 - Post 2

Welcome friends!

Time for another showcase of a beautiful doll that I received under the Christmas tree this (last) year!

Presenting: The 60th Anniversary Barbie doll!

Inspiring Girls since 1959. I had seen this doll in stores and wasn't sure if I wanted her. I did but then, being short on money, didn't buy her. So imagine my surprise when I saw her under the tree from my awesome mom.

This doll has a platinum and silver theme. Platinum blonde hair with silver and platinum details. I love her cat eye eyeliner and bold red lip!

I love the style of this dress. So pretty! The way it's designed and the glitter is just so Barbie.

She has a wrist tag that was customary on dolls back in the day.

The back of the box reads: "60. Inspiring girls since 1959. For the past 60 years, Barbie has touched the hearts and imaginations of girls from all over the world. To commemorate her momentous diamond anniversary, Barbie doll celebrates the occasion dressed in a cascading ball gown, twinkling with silvery sparkles. Paying homage to the original doll and her iconic fashion heritage, the 60th Anniversary doll features a dramatic ponytail, side glancing eye, hoop earrings and wrist tag. Creator Ruth Handler's philosophy of Barbie was that "through the doll the little girl could be anything she wanted to be." What a great statement!

Okay, so she's not "platinum" theme but "diamond" theme. Makes sense. I love how these anniversary dolls pay homage to the original with their own little twist. It's what makes them unique!

Just for fun, let's take a look at the other anniversary dolls that we've had in the past!

The 30th Anniversary doll was a reproduction of the original and came in both blonde and brunette.

The 35th Anniversary doll was a vintage reproduction of the 1959 #1 Ponytail doll and came with two iconic outfits. Easter Parade and Roman Holiday!

The 40th Anniversary doll is designed like the original swimsuit!

There were two different versions of the 45th Anniversary doll. One wearing this dress....

...and one wearing this dress designed by Bob Mackie! In our favorite black and white theme.

And the AA doll! Wowza! I need to have them both. I think the white is just stunning!

Marvelous Mackies

Greetings all! I have a bit of time so I figured I should get a new post up STAT! Because you know how we all love to read about and see pictures of beautiful dolls.

And I have one today!

Remember back in December when I had my 25 days of Barbie posts. Two of the holiday dolls (2005 and 2006) were by Bob Mackie.

2005 Pink Edition

2005 Green Edition

The 2006 Doll

I mentioned in one (or probably all) of those posts that Bob Mackie is my favorite designer of Barbie. When I was a kid I somehow (probably from something my mom put a mail order in for) I got a catalogue of collector Barbie dolls. I was always fascinated with this Bob Mackie creation. The Moon Goddess.

barbie.mattel.com
Friends, don't you just LOVE her? She is so so so awesome. I had an obsession with moons and stars growing up which made me love this doll just that much more.

Well, for Christmas one year my (wonderful, amazing, etc, etc...) mother got this Mackie for me. I am proud to present The Sterling Silver Rose.

This is a creation designed especially for Avon and came out in 2002.

Beauty. Glamour. Perfection. Mackie. SO Mackie! She is a true example of perfection.

I was always fascinated by and loved her purple up-do. It is regal elegance in its purest form.

The dress is purple velvet. To Die For!!

The Barbie Collector website has a much better picture of the doll and a cute little write-up about it.

"Bob Mackie brings his signature sensational flair to Sterling Silver Rose Barbie® doll. Wearing a glamorous deep purple panne gown accented with a single silver and lavender fabric rose and a lovely lavender bustle, Barbie® is a true vision of distinctive beauty. Her platinum hair is highlighted with lavender hues and styled into an intricate updo. Dramatic face paint and long lavender gloves provide the sparkling finishing touches."

She is and always will be one of the dolls that I love the most. Everywhere I live she is proudly displayed (in her box of course :)

So all, do you have The Sterling Silver Rose? Or other Mackie dolls? Let me know in the comments! Bob Mackie has many dolls and it would be amazing to see which ones you have!

Until next time!

*sings* Heaven! I'm in heaven!

Can you believe this? My Bob Mackie doll count is up to 4 because he has again designed another Holiday Barbie!

Can you believe this? What a sensational dress! It's perfect in every way. Barbie almost looks like a goddess with the headpiece and dress.

What is not to like? From the beautiful braid to the star earrings and glittering makeup, she is perfect in every sense of the word.

Remember how magical stars are? We discussed this with the 2001 Holiday Celebration Barbie. So Mackie brought the magic of stars with this dress.

I just love how Mackie incorporated a bunch of color into this dress. I love everything about it!

The back of the box reads: "This most beautiful season brings celebrations, filled with the joy and love of family and friends. If you believe, the holidays deliver the gifts of harmony and hope, wrapped in magic and decorated with glamour! The special extravaganza of this year: Holiday Barbie doll by Bob Mackie!

Bob Mackie again presents a beautiful gift for this special season. The 2006 Holiday Barbie by Bob Mackie is wonderfully sophisticated in a black gown, embellished with white faux fur and festive multicolored stars.

For years, Bob Mackie's designs have graced the most famous stars in the entertainment industry as well as the most glamorous women throughout the world. In 1990, Mackie glamour reached the pinnacle of fantasy when he began designing for the definitive fashion doll - Barbie. 2006 marks Mr. Mackie's second Holiday Barbie doll creation, sure to be treasured for years to come!"

Day 18: Glamorous Green - 2005 Holiday Barbie

Wait a minute here! Wasn't yesterday 2005 Holiday Barbie's post? Well, yes but remember I have mentioned many times how awesome my mom is.

So I was plesantly surprised when I also found this under the tree.

IMG_8104

The other Bob Mackie Holiday Barbie! This time in green!

She is identical to the pink doll and the green is equally as beautiful!

IMG_8106

Remember how the pink doll had green jewelry? Well, this doll has the pink jewelry!

IMG_8105

Honestly I never ever noticed this until I brought these dolls home with me a couple of weeks ago. Andrea also informed me that the 2004 doll has real eyelashes. Apparently I'm not very observant!!!

I wanted to see if this was some kind of fluke but no. The master himself designed the jewelry that way. I checked it out on the concept drawings on the back of the box.

IMG_8107

Ah, so another Bob Mackie doll to add to my collection. Total is now 3! So exciting. I was reading on his website that he also designed costumes for Cher. Just a fun little tidbit I thought I would throw in here. :)

See you tomorrow!

Day 17: Pristine Pink - 2005 Holiday Barbie

I haven't told you yet but I secretly have an obsession with anything Bob Mackie. There! It's out in the open. The first Mackie doll I had is called "The Sterling Silver Rose". The pictures online don't do her justice. I'll make sure you all see her. :)

So just imagine my excitement when I saw that Bob Mackie designed this years Holiday Barbie.

IMG_8100

Oh. my. gosh. I could not be in any more love with this doll than I am now. I love ANYTHING Bob Mackie and this was no exception. Can you believe how gorgeous this dress is?

IMG_8102

In the title of this blog I said "pristine" pink. Doesn't the dress give you that impression? It does for me.

Another thing I like about this doll (besides the dress design, the glitter, the everything) is the jewelry. How creative to put green with the pink. It totally fits and looks great! (It looks great because it's a Bob Mackie and anything of his looks great.)

IMG_8101

The back of the box pictures the concept drawing of the dress and also says this about this wonderful doll.

"Holiday Barbie doll is becoming a favorite, festive tradition, reflecting all the joy and beauty of the season. And this year's selection is even more special - because, for the first time ever, Bob Mackie works his very special magic on Holiday Barbie doll.

The 2005 Holiday Barbie by Bob Mackie is completely respelendent! As shimmery and sparkly as a frosty winter morning, this doll feature over-the-top glamour, perect for the most lavish holiday gala!

For years, Bob Mackie's designs have graced the most famous stars in the entertainment industry as well as the most glamorous women throughout the world. in 1990, Mackie glamour reached the pinnacle of fantasy when he began designing for the definitive fashion doll - Barbie. 2005 marks Mr. Mackie's first ever Holiday Barbie creation, sure to be treasured for years to come!"
IMG_8103

So yes, this has been cherished all these years, and will be for many more.

At the bottom there was a sweepstakes for "Barbie Make Over My Holidays!" The winner got a huge party and a dress inspired by the doll. Why did I not enter this! To own a Bob Mackie dress would be the dream of a lifetime.

What do you think of this doll?

See you tomorrow!
