Inspiration - Storm Thorgerson
My brother recently bought the book "The Children of Men" and I was impressed with the cover, so I decided to research the designer, who turned out to be british designer Storm Thorgerson. I looked into other examples of his work, and was suprised to find out that he has designed for Biffy Clyro for the album cover "Puzzle" and one of my favorite covers, "The Division Bell" by Pink Floyd. With even more research I discovered that the metal statures in the image were actually real, which I was even more surprised about.

Inspiration - Steve Buffoni
I really like how experimental Steve Buffoni has been with these images. I love how much thought has gone into the layout of the first image, to keep the whole image interesting rather than putting so much emphasis into one part and getting bored half-way. I decided to take a look at his website, and I really like his typography work too. At his best, his work has a very retro feel with a hint of modernism, and at his worst his work is very similar to most other pieces of graphic design, although it is still very good.

Inspiration - Unix Timestamp
I came across this really eye-catching piece of design, which was created by Arrival Graphic Design. These posters signify an important day. for example, one of them was for the Inauguration, one for the Solstice, and this one for Progression. I love how the bright colours draw you in, and make your eyes follow the curves, and finally onto the dates at the bottom. With such little information the viewer is then forced to search for themselves why the date is important. A very intriguing set of posters which will grow as time goes on.

Inspiration - Markie Darkie
I found this wonderful set of experimental "vectors" created by the designer Markie Darkie. The link below shows all of the different example of his vectors, and it also ives a little insight into how he created them. I love how the viewers eye is guided around the image with successful use of hierarchy and seamless flow. I also like how the background is a creamy colour, rather than pure white, as it feels more natural, and the bright background would distract the attention from the complex shape.

Inspiration - Step into the Sensory Box
I was browsing the web when I came across such an ingenious video. It was designed by studio SUPERBIEN, for the public to view who attended the World Mobile Congress. For the first part I assumed it was all stop motion photography, but analysing it deeper I realised it was actually film, with a stack of boxes, and to what I assume a projector which has been lined up perfectly. I am impressed with how much work the studio put into making this spectacular piece, and all the hard work and effort show in the final product. It's nice to see that some people still decide to use analogue methods over pure digital, as they are more convincing, and you actually appreciate the work put into it more so.

Inspiration - Christopher Dresser Teapot
I recently watched the first episode of a really interesting documentary called Genius of Design. In this documentary, they showed work of designers from all trades, and a design that caught my eye especially was that of Christopher Dresser's Teapot, designed in the 1970's. t is such an aesthetic and practical design, one of which I would love to own. The lid was designed so that when opened it rests on the conveniently placed handle, and the overall weighting to the object is apparently pleasing too. Although designed in the 1970's, it wouldn't look out of place in a modern kitchen at all.

Inspiration - Audacity of Huge
One of my favorite songs at this moment in time. I decided to watch the video after hearing the song, and was very impressed, as I was half expecting it to be another generic club style video. I really like how the video is hugely influenced by the pop art movement, with bright colours and stylistic toy robots. I was so impressed with the video I decided to research the director, a graphic designer called Kate Moross, who is a designer based in London. I really like her style, especially her typographical work. Check out her website and work here.

Inspiration - Toshiba T130 Advert
I saw this advert on TV a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was such a simple, yet really effective advert. As I was watching it I wondered whether or not they actually sent a chair into space, or whether it was all green screened. So I decided to watch the behind the scenes footage to see how it was actually conducted. To my surprise it actually was launched into space, which is what makes it such a convincing advert.

Inspiration - Fringe Title Sequence
I watch a series called Fringe, which is a science fiction program similar to that of x-files. I have always loved watching the title sequence to this program, as it sets the mood and aesthetic that follows. For one episode, that was set in the past, the 80's to be exact, they changed the title sequence to match the era. They have designed the video so well, with the retro soundtrack, down the the retro font, to the whole aesthetic to it, including the "tron" style background, and even the terminology used is reminiscent of the time. They made the 1980's title sequence so convincing that I prefer it to the original by a long way.

Inspiration - Logorama
My friend James Bradley recently showed me this video, where a city and its inhabitants are visualised by exisiting logos. A very creative and intuitive creation, a must see! Click Here to see the video!
