Yogyakarta oh Yogyakarta

More than one month has passed since the eruption of Mount Merapi that killed more than 350 people.

As the volcano alert level has been reduced and most of the 250 thousands evacuees were allowed to return to their homes, the people of Yogyakarta were surprised by a statement of President SBY who called their governor i.e Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, a Monarch.

The statement was made in connection with the President's plan to introduce a law that will require the Governor of Yogyakarta to be elected directly by the people like other governors in Indonesia, thus different from what has been done until now i.e appointed by the central government.

Today, 17 August 2010, 240 million people living in more than 17,000 island in South East Asian archipelago celebrate the 65th. independence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Let's hope that the President and the Government, together with the Parliament and the Judiciary authorities would do their very best only for the country and people, and not for the selfish interests of their own, and/or their family, and/or their friends, and/or groups, and/or political parties.
