More Nine Patches and those Churn Dash blocks!

Well I did make a few more of those nine-patches

Here are 12 blocks out of 16 which will make a 4x4 layout.

Using the other four nine patches I completed 4 churn dash blocks to try out my solids choices against the thirties fabric.   Unlike Julie's quilt I am using the same solids for each Churn Dash.

And then I added a thin sashing strip with contrasting cornerstone in the same fabrics as the ninepatches.  So far I am liking it!

I was not sure of the size of Julie's nine patches but I am sure mine are giant-sized compared to hers.  No little lap quilt this after all!  This is one-quarter of the quilt top unless I add a border too.

But I cannot finish without getting more of those solid fabrics - back to Mandy at Simply Solids then...

Look what I've been buying...

I have been stocking up on those gorgeous Kona solids thanks to  Simply Solids and am trying to work my way through the collection....quite a responsibility you might say!

So far I have bought (and used*):

Olive*; Peridot; Chartreuse; Cactus*; and Honeydew*

I really love those greens as you can see from my Baskets Quilt backing fabric and Olive is I think my favourite of those.

Eggshell; Champagne; Chocolate; Tangerine; and School bus

White; Blueberry; Ash; Denim; Coal and Delft

Ruby; Rich Red and Eggplant

I have plans for some of the others but I am loving the colour hit whenever I look at them.  Problem is there are so many more and each one is calling me....can you hear them?

Have you got a favourite solid colour - one you go back to again and again?   Or do you like to mix it up?

What did the postman bring?

The postman brought me a smallish package yesterday and inside there was colour!  Have a look for yourself....

There was colour and the potential of beautiful utility stitches on my Bear's Paw Quilt.

I started out quilting by machine but two layers of flannel and woollen batting meant I wasn't aware of what lurked at the back - and that is what was there! Great big lurking tucks and folds, which need unpicking before I can go back to my comfort zone of hand quilting in these lovely threads.

I do like the back - the result of another mistake - not ordering quite enough fabric from The Homespun Loft!  Although I have to say that I had considered making a large bear's paw design on the back from the start but then decided I would just stick to one fabric to be quicker!  Hahaha!  More fool me!  I then had to unpick seams, cut up fabric, stitch it up together.  A real 'make do' effort just like a real pioneer.....

So much to learn.....

If you were visiting yesterday you will have seen some baby mystery fruits - greengages and mulberries!  Yum! Yum!  If I remember, I will show you when they are ripe and yummier!

New to the stash - a bit more skirt!

I have been buying again !

How could I resist this loveliness from Simply Solids:

1/2 metre of Earth Elephants and 1/2 metre of Kona School Bus

Plus more exquisiteness from Seamstar:

1/2 metre of Moda Bella Solid Neutrals and of a Light Blue (sorry do not know name) plus 1 metre of Anna Maria Horner - Innocent Crush - Loves Me in Golden

What's on the horizon - two skirts of course.  Cannot wait to get wearing those - just need to choose a pattern.... I'm thinking A-line or drop waisted....they suit my shape best!

 Any suggestions girls?

And I feel I am actually saving money as to buy a skirt like these would cost a lot more wouldn't it?

What skirt style is your favourite?

Nicky

PS I've tried out the free Moda Bella colour match service offered by Seamstar and they haven't let me down.  Prompt, solicitous and accurate intervention to prevent a mismatch.  What more could you ask?  Thank you Seamstar!

I heard about Saints & Pinners at Blueberry Park - a great UK blog!  Thanks for the recommendation about a great UK online-shop.

Before the end of term one mum turned up in the playground with a patchwork skirt and I kept looking at her, or rather her skirt.  I thought: I could make that!

So I want to make a patchwork A-line skirt out of all that orange and pink loveliness and I'm brooding over what to make with the voiles....maybe a scarf to go with that skirt.  Better start looking for a skirt pattern or summer will be over and no skirt!  Then where would I be?

I know SKIRTLESS!

Do you like my choice of fabrics?  I'm trying to decide whether to make rectangle patches or vertical strips?  Anybody got any suggestions?

Do help me to decide....or I may never get started...

Hello, my name is Frog!

At least this is what my daughter wrote to show me how to blog!  Why not I thought??  It's as good a start as any I could think of....

I recently received some goodies in the post.  I got them from Seamstar, an online fabric shop in the UK that I read about on  I'm a Ginger Monkey.  Thank you to both Seamstar for a really propmt delivery of some gorgeous fabric and to Ginger Monkey for the recommendation!   It was good to find somewhere in the UK.

my little parcel of goodies!

I also got to do some sewing this week on a WIP - I think I can call it that now - it is a basket quilt that I started in September last year at a class with Margaret Hughes at my LQS the Quiltroom in the lovely town of Dorking.  I love the quilt but wanted to make it bigger, hence the delay in finishing it.  I now think I will add a border rather than disrupt the symmetry of the original design.  I hope to sew all the rows together and the corner setting triangles soon and then I will need to think about the border - mmmmm??   Any suggestions?

Here is a better photo from the washing line:

I have to say I am in awe of all the blogs I have come across but you do have to start somewhere...

Have lots of sewing fun this week!  I know I have...
