S.H.E
Went for the S.H.E concert yesterday with Bee, Jia Ying and her sister, something that I never thought I would ever do just 2 years ago when I was only exposed to their covers and their computerized MVs. Isabel was there too (or so she claims =p). She kept saying she was just below me and why was I looking the other way, but I just could not see her. Hahaha. Sorry bell bell.
I was most impressed by how Hebe could hit the really high notes, and how good the three of them look and sound together. Their dance moves and voices were really synchronized.
Ella and Selina sound really good live too. They also struck up an easy banter whenever they were having a break in between songs. They really must be very professional if they are not as close as they seem. Charming ladies.
Being a very dead concert-goer, I only came to life when Sun Yanzi burst onto stage halfway during S.H.E's rendition of First Day. I think it's a special-guest thing. During Stefanie's concert I only came to life when F.I.R came on stage to sing First Day. Or maybe it's a First Day thing. Haha. Anyway my dead-ness was further emphasized by my other 3 very high companions. Bee (She is not used to my deadness. JY has given up on me liao after last time, and I suppose her sister doesn't know me well so dun dare to comment haha.) kept throwing me half-amazed half-perplexed why-are-you-not-high looks. Haha sorry la I already said I'm a dead concert-goer. I like to smile to myself and enjoy the sights and sounds instead of standing and screaming my lungs out. =p I hope I didn't spoil anyone's mood, hehe.
They sang all my favourite S.H.E songs and Yue Gui Nu Shen!!! Wahahaha (smirks at Isabel)...though they didn't really sing it live. It was more of a "distraction" to entertain us during one of their costume changes, I felt. But at least they had the dancers come up and prance around in snow-white wings and Roman costumes. And they played a video of the 3 of them singing the song, so I shan't complain. A bit disappointing though as I really like that song.
Another mini-gripe is I think the pyrotechnics were quite minimal. Same for the costume changes. But I suppose that's a good thing 'cos stars with substance don't need so many frills.
I particularly enjoyed Hebe's solo. She played the drums! I heard it's quite easy to pick up, but it looked amazing cos she's so petite but she still went all out and did it, drumstick-spinning and all. Ella's solo was quite excellent too! She played the piano and sang one of David Tao's songs. Sounded wonderful. How is it that her voice is low enough to sound good singing a guy's song, and yet can still blend so well with the other girls' high voices? She can do a really good imitation of Sun Yanzi singing too. Was surprised to find that she was (is?) a Stefanie fan before her S.H.E days. Hahaha. Really duo cai duo yi, the 3 of them.
Selina's solo was a hot and sexy dance. Erm...didn't really enjoy it that much but I do admit that her body looks really good. And she really could pull off the whole sexy dance. The rest of the audience seemed to enjoy it immensely though. They were all very entertained and showed their appreciation. Er...at one point she stripped right down to her undies, which I found a bit over-the-top. But later Ella revealed that that wasn't supposed to happen, hahaha. She accused Selina of being biased towards the Singapore audience and giving them this "extra treat" lol.
I think the solos were all very well planned and executed, though I didn't like them at first 'cos I felt that being a band, they should do everything together. But I suppose one of the downsides to being in a band is that one seldom gets to show one's special talents, or multiple "sub-personalities". Hebe's image (I might be wrong) is the cute and demure (though icy) girl, and her drum solo brought out the more tomboyish and tough side of her. Selina has a ladylike image, and her hot dance showed everyone that she could pull off sexy as well. And Ella's solo brought out her serious and sentimental side, a contradiction from her usual jokey and hyper self.
I've always quite admired Ella, as I feel that she always has to put up with the you-look-and-act-like-a-guy shit (plus, she looks good without wearing girly clothes). Though it's true and complements her image, I guess no girl likes to hear that all the bloody time (trust me, I know). Then throughout the concert she gamely said stuff like "Please welcome my two princesses, Hebe and Selina!" I yearn for the day when Ella will get to be referred to as the princess.
Their parents all came for the concert. I wondered if Selina's parents had any objections towards her dance. But oh well I suppose you become much more open-minded when your child is in the entertainment industry.
All in all, my opinion of S.H.E is much higher now. I was initially doubtful about how good they would sound live, but now I am very convinced that they are a girl-band with lots of substance. 3 beautiful, charming girls who sound heavenly together. Salut!
