Letter
Dear Stefanie,
I left your concert last night with a barrage of thoughts and emotions.
But before I go into all that, let's start with the beginning.
My friend and I

were very happy to find how close the $128 we paid each had brought us to you.

You appeared on the stage at 8.30 p.m. to roaring applause and piercing screams.
I regret to say that I was not one of the screamers, though I did clap. I did not scream not because I wasn't elated to see you, but because I am not really a screaming type of person. Throughout your concert, I smiled a smile of happiness that came from within. I hope that is enough for you.
The pyrotechnics were few and far between, which surprised me but did not disappoint me. Because when they appeared, they were most spectacular and really, what are pyrotechnics compared to your singing? I also learnt last night that lighting can be just as dramatic and powerful as fireworks.
I preferred the second half of your concert to the first half, because during the second half you did away with all the fancy costumes you wore in the first half. I did like that tail-dress thingy you wore for one of the first few performances, but the others, I am sorry to say, were terrible.
Isn't it so much better when all the focus is on your voice and your wonderful singing instead of costumes and dance moves? After all, concerts are, to me, all about spending that precious 2 hours or so with your idol at a close distance and enjoying everything that you love about her/him.
I agree with what you said during the second half of the concert about how sometimes things should be kept quite simple and was happy to hear that you felt more comfortable performing in jeans. Even if those jeans of yours must cost a bomb. Simple clothes, fancy price tag, haha.
I enjoyed the concert much more when you just sat there and did what you do best instead of having to wear fancy dresses and dance. I especially enjoyed your performance with guest performers F.I.R, Di Yi Tian. It's really a very cheerful song which lifted my spirits a lot. The appearance of the lovely and talented Tanya Chua was a very pleasant surprise and your duets with her left me asking for more.
I appreciated your attempts at making conversation with the audience, although they sounded rather scripted and more like sneak peaks at what songs you were going to sing next. I'm sure it couldn't be helped, though.
I loved your encore performances, though you took so long to come back onto the stage! I thought you weren't going to come back. Haha to the two people in front of me who left before your encore. I'm sure they must be kicking themselves now if they knew that they'd missed 3 performances thanks to classic kiasu-ness. I was amused that you noticed that "half" of the audience had gone and pointed out that it must be because of our "Singaporean habits". It reminded and assured me that despite your phenomenal fame and extraordinary talent, you are still a true Singaporean and have not forgotten your roots.
You looked absolutely adorable in that military costume and flaming red mohawk hair you wore for "Green Light". I was wondering if you were going to that point-to-your-dancers thing you always do in live performances of that song, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this time, the audience got to do it.
On the whole, I hope we managed to be the wonderful audience your fantastic performance deserved. You were absolutely marvellous and my words won't be able to do you justice.
I could stay and talk forever, but sadly I have to go do my student stuff now.
I hope that the next time I see you, you would have gained a bit of weight and not give the dancers such an easy job lifting you. And I also hope that I will be at the front row seats, entering by the Premier Entrance, and see you backstage for interviews. I will then get to wish you all the best in person and give you a wonderful review by attempting to do justice to your performance with the printed word. That would be my Perfect Day.
I'll be seeing you, then.
Warmest Regards,
May
