All About Me Preschool Theme 2014

Today  we had an "All About Me"  preschool theme.  I find it a fun theme to do at the beginning of the preschool year.
This "I Am Special" printable book is a lot of fun for kids to do.  They can color, draw, and practice writing a little bit as well.
Here is my son working away on his booklet.
We enjoyed reading several Mercer Mayer Little Critter Books.  I love his books for preschoolers.  They talk about many things that children at that age are dealing with and learning in such a cute and fun way.
We also watched "What I Am?" by Will i.am. and the Sesame Streets Characters.  It is a catchy, fun tune.

My 2013 blog post on my All About Me theme is my most popular posts to date.
I also did this theme in 2012 with my middle son.

Here are some other fun ideas for this theme:

Who Am I? on Starfall
The Human Body Printables
My Body printables
All About Me Pendant

Top Posts in 2013

My youngest son and I have colds that we have been battling with so we didn't jump back into preschool today as I had originally planned, but I hope to this week.

In the mean time I thought I would share my top posts of 2013.  It is fun to look back at what we've done the passed year and to see what is popular to other people.  So here is a look at my top five posts in 2013.

I hope to have a lot of fun doing preschool activities with my youngest throughout this upcoming year!

All About Me Preschool Theme

Today we had an "All About Me" preschool theme.  We looked at pictures of my son as he has grown up the last 3 years and talked about how he used to be a baby, but has since grown and learn to do lots of new things.

One of his favorite activities was visiting Starfall and doing the "All About Me: Who Am I?" section.  Children can make themselves and then make a pet and a bedroom among some other activities.

Another favorite activity that we have done with this theme and did again this year was watch a Sesame Street video clip with Will.i.am singing "What I Am" with Sesame Street characters.  It is a fun song with a great beat and a great message.

I love Mercer Mayer's Little Critter books and there are several that I think go great with this theme.  Here are the ones we read today
"I Was So Mad"
"When I Get Bigger"
"I Just Forgot"
"All By Myself"
We talked about different body parts and sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes"  We also used these cards to point to different body parts.
The same site also has an All About Me booklet I printed off and let my son color on and fill out.
Here is my son coloring his eye blue since he has blue eyes.
I also printed off a few pages from this "I Am Special" book for him to do as well.
I also found a great resource for making your own tracing pages to print off here.  I printed one off with my son's name written on it and we talked about the different letters in his name.

Last year was geared to my son who was nearly 5 so if you are looking for older activities you can check it out here.

All About Me- Preschool Week 1

This week my oldest started 1st grade.  My middle son is 4 and will be 5 in a couple of weeks.  He is reading really well.  We spend 15 minutes a day having him read some of his favorite books to me.  This year I want him to start learning to cut and write better so we will take a little time each morning working on those skills.  He is doing pretty well at writing his name so we are working on every letter of the alphabet.  I was hesitant to give him worksheets since preschool age children learn through play, but he absolutely loves doing them so I am happy with that decision.
On top of those things we also spent the week doing an "All About Me" theme because what kid doesn't like to hear about themselves?  We looked at pictures of him and talked about some of his favorite things.  We sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and talk a little about different body parts.

Will.i.am does a fun song on Sesame Street called "What I Am" my boys love that song and so we danced to it.  It is a catchy, fun song worth listening too.

I found this fun idea.  My son drew pictures of everything and I used squares instead of circles.  My son had a lot of fun doing this and it was a great way to go over the name of the city, state, and country we live in.
We used this Emotions Face printable to talk about different emotions.  We read each one, talked about what it meant, and then he made a face to match the emotion.

We did this "I'm Special" book that had a lot of fun pages to color and fill out.

That pretty much wraps up our week.  I had my son help me think of themes he would like to do throughout the year.  He came up with some interesting things.  I should share it some time.  Anyway, should be a fun year.
