Fort Worth, Texas McDonald's Shooting Prevented by Gun Malfunction

ABC

A would-be robber tried to shoot a startled diner at a McDonald's in Fort Worth, but his gun jammed, police and witnesses said.

Jestin Anthony Joseph entered the restaurant Tuesday night, asked for a cup and then pulled out a gun, which he pointed at customers while demanding their keys. Surveillance video released by Fort Worth police shows Joseph point the gun at a man and his young son at the counter, then pull the trigger. The gun didn't fire.
Joseph then walked outside and tried firing the weapon again, witnesses said. This time, it went off without hurting anyone. He was arrested a short time later.
Davage Armstrong, who was the customer at the counter, told KTVT-TV that he's lucky to be alive.
"I'm still in shock. Glad to be here. I'm thankful to God that I'm still here and able to tell y'all this," Armstrong said.
Police Sgt. Joe Loughman told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that there were at least 15 people in the restaurant at the time. He couldn't explain the weapon jamming.
"I've never seen anything like that before," Loughman said. "It must not have been their time to go."
Is that really so unusual, a gun failing to fire once and then firing on the second attempt? Aren't there several ways such a thing can happen short of a miracle?

I watched the video, and the first time he had a failure to fire, he pulled the magazine to make sure he had ammo, put magazine back in and then racked the slide. Then the pistol worked. So the first time, I'm thinking no round in the chamber.
Second time is harder to say, other than possibly the pistol failed to eject after firing. Many criminals aren't into proper gun care. And proper cleaning and lubrication are important in semi auto pistols.

  2. I'm curious to know what kind of gun he used. The video isn't avaiable anymore, and the photo above isn't clear. Sarge gave two possible explanations. Sometimes, the firing pin fails to strike the primer hard enough or the cartridge has a hang fire. As Lucky Ned Pepper said, those things will embarrass you every time.

  3. Yeah, there are several ways that could happen without miraculous intervention. Why do you ask? Can't handle the idea of Divine Intervention?

  4. Divine intervention, proper cleaning and lubrication, that is what you get from this, how about Mr. Thug, was damn lucky that in Texas no one else was concealed carrying in that restaruant, because if I was carrying in Texas and unfortunate enough to have someone pull a gun on me and it misfire, I would sure as hell draw and kill that someone.
