My Happy Scrappy Space
When my family comes looking for me, and I'm not in the kitchen or family room, they know to look for me in my happy, scrappy, space. A pair of pocket doors separates it from my bedroom. I live in a house that was built in 1892. It has been upgraded...some. This little room was probably a boudoir or sitting room area in a former life. Since my family purchased the house in the early 1960's (we bought my dad out 12 years ago) it has been a sewing room, bedroom, home-school room and now my scrap room. In fact, most of the bookcases were originally purchased to hold the books my kids used for their school work. It's hard for me not to be happy in here. Sometimes I just sit at my table going through mail, on my computer, or doing my weekly meal planning and list making just because this is "my" space and I am relaxed in here.
You can see the pocket doors here, I keep them shut so as not to disturb my husband when he is sleeping and I'm still scrapping. I love these paper racks, I got them from an lss that was going out of business. Seeing my papers makes it so much easier to find what I want. I have the solids sorted by color bisecting the patterned papers, which are sorted according to brand and sometimes line. I love Basic Grey for example and I do have a pile of odd sheets from many lines but also have some of the lines grouped singly. If you can find paper racks, I'd highly recommend them. I also have my cutting machines, dies and carts near by and there are shelves and shelves of stamps and inks.
My table is covered with a full size non-stick craft mat and I have another, smaller mat layered on top. The bins and drawers hold flowers, alphas, stickers, embellishments, tags, small punches, extra adhesives, and small tools.
This wall holds larger tools, projects, buttons, go-to supplies, etc. This is directly behind me when I scrap so I can easily grab what I need.
This corner space has a wall shelf that has miscellaneous crafting supplies and candles. And a Tie Fighter Lego model. Go figure. lol My son-in-law is willing to adopt it but hasn't picked it up yet. Back to scrappiness. I have sorted my cards and discovered so many. I am making it a goal to send these cards, just to say Hi, instead of stock-piling them. I also have a smaller paper rack for 8.5x11 papers. That big old guillotine paper cutter is great for cutting chipboard, cardboard and large amounts of papers. I inherited it with the house.
You don't see my comfy office chair, the dvd player which is essential as I can listen to audiobooks and music and the candle du jour, which I like to burn when I am scrapping. I love my space. I do wish I had painted it when almost everything was out and it has an old carpeted floor. If you're planning a space, carpet and scraps don't work well together, so if you can do another type of floor treatment, I would. The floor under my carpet is very old linoleum tile, and it would be so much easier to clean up, if only I would pull it up. A project for the winter. :) My biggest handicap in the space is that when this room was updated (before the 60's) they only put in one electric outlet. You should see the hook-ups in that outlet. I'm so glad someone invented power strips! Regardless, this is my Happy Scrappy Space and I love every minute I spend in here.
