On Monday 7th November was the day when the CPA went to Auckland, we all travelled in the Melville High School vans. We had a lot of parent helpers with us. Everyone contributed something like baking, cereal and more. We were looking for Waiuku Primary School but we got lost so Michelle (Shyniah's Mum) asked for directions. We finally found Waiuku Primary School for our first performance.
I grabbed my costume and went to the hall. There were so many kids but I wasn't nervous. We had only two to three minutes to get into our costumes, there was a Maori, Samoan, and Hawaiian costumes. It was time for the performance, we had to smile for the entire show. Our show was amazing I felt so proud and excited.
I went back to the van for the Powhiri at the marae where we were staying, and where we were going to meet Matua Peter. When we got there a lady was welcoming us to her marae and we sung songs then got our beds ready. After we were settled in we went to the pools with a hydro-slide, wave pools and spa. It was awesome, my favourite was the hydro slide. Two hours later we went back to the marae to relax. Dinner time, the food was delicious, there was nachos, and chop suey and ice cream with brownies for dessert... mmm.... We had a practice and got ready for bed..... zzz....
We got up at six am and got ready for our next performance, but first we had breakfast. The stage was huge, I did my best and we were great. After the performance we went to museum, then we went back to Hamilton and got Ice Cream! Report by Hayze from Room Eight, this footage is of the Auckland Performance on the second day of the 2011 CPA Trip, filmed by Mackenzie from Room Eight.

Melville Intermediate - Rocky River Elementary
In New Zealand we are currently approaching the halfway mark in the school year, which is scheduled to finish in December for 2011. Our global friends in the USA are currently on their Summer break, yesterday we had a wonderful comment left on our class page from Brenda Todd from Grade Two, Class 117B Rocky River Elementary School in North Carolina, USA. On their page they've created a wonderful farewell video for the their friends and have highlights of their learning for the school year. If you watch the Animoto you'll see a certain Melville Intermediate and a Maori co-ordination hand game featuring Hayze and Mackenzie from Room Eight feature from the 52 second mark to about 1:20. We're going to be watching this as a class Monday but the students will be thrilled to see a lesson in Maori created in New Zealand being taught to students in the USA! If you haven't yet visited their wonderful class page then you can do so by clicking the link here.

Melville Intermediate - Counting to 1000 in Maori
This is the fourth and final video in the 'Maori Counting Series' for 2011. The first video was the importance of the key numbers in the Maori Language, 1-10. The second video created by our students deals with numbers from 10-25, and deals with the fact that there are no 'teen' numbers in Maori. The third video dealt with the numbers from 25 to 100. This video deals with 100 to 10,000! Its straight forward once you get the key numbers sorted, you need the key words in Maori for 100 and 1000, Kotahi Rau and Mano. These videos as with all in the series have been created by Hayze, Shayley and Mackenzie, filmed at Melville Intermediate on Friday 10th June 2011.

Melville Intermediate - Hand Games for Maori Language Week 2
This is the second video in the series. This is a Maori Hand Game that is a co-ordination activity. Students have a series of five actions that they need to memorise and then repeat without error. If both students or groups of students can repeat them then the students or groups of students go through them again, repeating the process but faster, and continue to do so until someone makes a mistake. Your hosts for this activity Hayze and Mackenzie go through the five actions and then in additional bonus footage compete against each other to demonstrate the game. Filmed at Melville Intermediate on Tuesday 7th June 2011.

Melville Intermediate - Counting in Maori Part One
This is the first in a new series of videos entitled 'Counting in Maori'. Maori is a fantastic language to learn how to count in, as it has ten basic numbers which all the other numbers from 1 to 99 work off, so once you've learnt the numbers from 1 to 10 your nearly there. The new series of lessons are presented by Hayze and Mackenzie, two students from Room Eight, who were also responsible for this years Mihi videos, and furthermore are available to chat with your class using Skype to help tutor you with Maori Language! This video was filmed by Shaylee. The words will appear on screen but you need to practise the following:

Melville Intermediate - Maori Mihi
A Maori Mihi is a traditional introduction that is given to other people usually on a Marae. At Melville Intermediate School all Y7 and Y8 students are required to know their own individual Mihi and be able to recite it. Last week we started working on these with our 2011 class. The first two examples are by Hayze and Mackenzie. We've deliberately left out the information in English to see just how much of the Mihi you can understand by listening. Filmed in the Room Eight ICT Lab area, Melville Intermediate School, Hamilton, Waikato on Friday 11th November 2011.
