Hexies!!

It is finally time for the Be A Hexie Queen blog hop with Madame Samm and Debby as our cheerleader.  A fun and inspiring hop it has been so far.

I started out with my seven Kaffe Fassett hexies that I had basted long ago.  I was so excited about the colors of the fabric and using them with hexies I knew I had to find some way to use them that was unique.  After rearranging and turning them all in different directions I finally knew how I wanted them, I just needed some more fabric.  An hour of searching the internet and I found two different places to order more.  Once the fabric was here I quickly got to work.

Only 217 half-inch hexies and countless hours later my table topper is finished....This is a huge stretch of the imagination for me as I never in my wildest dreams would normally use these fabrics let alone together.

(click photo for a closer look)

The Sewline glue pen I used to baste them worked wonderfully.  The papers came out easily when it was finished (which I have often wondered about as I have never removed all the papers from a hexagon quilt before), and the fabric was nice and flat against the papers which made them easier to sew together.  I am pretty sure it will be quite a while before I use these half-inch hexies again...it takes many hours to make a sizable piece, but well worth the extra time!  Please visit the other blogs to see their hexie creations.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

Hexagons and French Knots

Today has been a weird Sunday.  I am motivated to do everything and nothing all at once.  This next week is so crammed packed full that I think I'm kind of taking it easy mentally before everything comes flying at me.

I started basted these back in March when I picked up a Rowan Kaffe Collective set of 2-1/2 inch squares.  I thought I knew what pattern I was going to use them for, and then a found something fun to try and soon realized I didn't have enough fabric.  I spent over an hour last night looking for these fabrics on line and did get some ordered.  I'm hoping they get here quickly as although basting these little guys goes quickly, sewing them together does not.

I spent some time in the swing on Friday night making french knots...I used to hate french knots, that is until I learned how to do them and now I have to say they were enjoyable.  No pattern watching, just sat and enjoyed the beautiful weather while completing my sheep and star.  Now to decide, a pillow or an ornament?  I'm off to do some cleaning.  My son's teacher is coming for a home visit before school starts to get to know him a little, and I'd hate for her to leave with threads and fabric snips on her backside! :)  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

WIP Wednesday

This started out as Design Wall Monday...but it is now Wednesday so it is my work in progress.  :)  I spent some time in the car again this weekend and more time waiting which allowed me to do some basting again.

I now have 375 dime-sized hexies basted and I've run out of the paper hexagons so I have to order them.  I'm not quite sure which pattern I'm going to use which will make me wait until I have the papers here to start working on them.  They are so bright and cheery to work with, especially with the dreary weather we have been having.

I also got the knitting needles out and started on a new summery scarf.  I'm using a linen yarn called Sparrow from Quince & Co. and I love it.  It is kind of like knitting with DMC thread, which makes me slow down, but the further I get into it, the more I want to knit.  It is a free pattern that can be found here.  It seems I never have a shortage of things to work on, but they all seem to keep me out of trouble.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

Rail Fence and Some Hexies

I spent a large part of the day in my sewing room...cleaning.  It is never a fun thing to have to clean it out, but it always feels good to have an organized space to be creative.

Today is a 12-inch Rail Fence.  I think this would be a fun block to use for a quilt too...you could line up the stripes different ways and make some interesting designs.  I actually think it would take longer to figure out your block placement then it would to piece the blocks.  It is number 43 of 366.

Here are hexies 111 through 116...I can see that 140 flower mark getting closer and closer.  I worked on them in the car yesterday as I didn't get anything ready for binding.  I will have pictures tomorrow of how I put them together, which really seems to speed up the process (at least for me).

I almost forgot my stash report for this week, which isn't much, but should definitely be improved next week.  I am linking with Judy at Patchwork Times...

Used this week:  0 yards
Used year to date:  2.5 yards
Added to this week:  2
Added to year to date: 22 yards
Net used for 2012:  -19.5

It is the beginning of another week...and a holiday week at that.  :)  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

First there was the Fat Quarter Shop Designer BOM block...

and the five Christmas Stitchalong embroidery blocks...

I spent one weekend basting 600+ hexies...

which did produce another 10 flowers.

And finally a finished This and That Mystery Monday quilt.

Squares, triangles, hexies, BOM...the list goes on and on

I've been here, it has just been a really busy week. My brother got married on Saturday, so of course it was one of those wild weeks and things happen that you can never plan for! :) We had a wonderful time and their wedding was beautiful.

There were flower arrangements to be made for the rehearsal dinner, dress clothes to be bought, and places to be.

Weddings are always so fun to be a part of! (These pictures were taken at my home before they left for the dinner.)

Now back to my WiP!  There are stacks and stacks of squares and triangles all cut for my Vignette Mystery Quilt.

And there is a stack of hexies all ready to be stitched together for the Vignette Hexagon Quilt.

This block from http://www.littlemissshabby.com/ BOM was actually finished on Friday night.  This is the May block.  The June block is all drawn out and ready to to be stitched.

I'm linking with WiP Wednesday at http://freshlypieced.blogspot.com/.  Tomorrow we start the Kaleidoscope quilt along, which I actually think I am ready for.  You can join us at http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/.  Happy Stitching and congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Little Brother!  --Kristen

My Design Wall Monday

My design wall is so full you wouldn't believe it.  Too many great patterns, great fabric, and great weather.  I don't know, but I'm inspired this week.  I sure hope it continues!

I started the day out at my son's basketball camp.  I had packed my bag and was sure I had everything...everything that is except for a SCISSORS!  I know, I know, I usually have a scissors in my purse, bag, and car at all times.  But today there were no scissors anywhere..and I didn't even have my dental floss along that could snip threads in an emergency.  Thank goodness I had my trusty glue pen, cut fabric, and paper hexies.  I basted instead (the hexies), and I also spent time chatting with another mom.  It was an enjoyable morning to say the least.

When we returned home I started cutting (finally) my Vignette Mystery Quilt (the bright strips above).  I've added a few more fabrics in the last couple of weeks because I just felt like it was missing something.  Hopefully soon I will finish cutting and get some sewing started.  I can't wait to see how these Shoo Fly blocks turn out.

My This and That BOM has been a bit troublesome this month.  I ended up having a wrong fabric cut in my kit, so we had to go and pick that up today too.  We are very close to finishing this, and I refuse to give up now!

I'm still trying to add a few more fabrics to my Warm Cool Quilt Along at http://incolororder.blogspot.com/.  I also somehow found myself joining in The Farmer's Wife quilt along at http://msmcporkchopquilts.com/.  There are only 111 blocks in that quilt, UH HUM...but I only need to finish two blocks a week.  I'm still chosing fabrics from my stash for the Kaliedoscope quilt at http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/ (that doesn't start for another week).

I'm linking with Design Wall Monday at http://www.patchworktimes.com/.  If you get a chance, go see what everyone has been working on.  Happy Stitching!  --Kristen
