Pumpkin Guts

Ah.  Pumpkin carving.  Our kids get so excited to carve a pumpkin every year.  It always seems to take forever so we just carve one.  Maybe once they are old enough to really help we'll let each kid carve one.  This year, Audrey and Truman talked for weeks about what kind of face they wanted on our pumpkin.

Finally, the big night arrived.  Actually, this year we thought it would be smart to gut our pumpkin one night and then carve it the next.  So Sunday, October 27, we gutted our pumpkin.  Audrey and Truman can really help with this part of the task and were excited to get their hands in there.
I guess that last year we must have made Truman take off his shirt when we carved our pumpkin, because this year he was insistent that he couldn't wear a shirt.  Sometimes I'm surprised at the memory this boy has.
There was a little arguing and fighting over who was hogging the pumpkin, but for most part things proceeded peacefully.

I took this picture just to prove that Genevieve was there too.  She didn't get to help clean out the pumpkin, but she did eat dinner at the table while the kids were working.

When Audrey and Truman declared the pumpkin adequately clean, Matt finished up and then put it back on our porch.

Monday, October 28, for FHE we carved the pumpkin and Audrey and Truman used permanent markers to decorate some of their smaller pumpkins.

Audrey designed a face and Matt did the carving.  When we carve pumpkins I try to have very little to do with it.  It's not my favorite activity and Matt's pumpkins always turn out so much better than anything I can do anyway.
Hard at work.

T was done with his pumpkin in about three minutes.  He drew a great face!

Audrey took a little longer.  I think her face is great but I really love the math problems and declaration on the side.  I'm glad I have pictures of this because I plan on showing it to her one day when she's complaining about math.

While everyone worked we watched the Disney movie about Ichabod.  I love The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and so we watch this little movie every year.  Truman snuggled with me on the couch because he was already finished with his pumpkin and Audrey joined once she was done.
The finished product!  Didn't Matt do such a great job!

We went outside to take a few pictures before bedtime.

Spooky spooky!

And these last few are from the next day.

I love our little collection of pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns this year!

This is the pumpkin Audrey painted during art club at school.

I love fall and I love Halloween.
