I am in awe...

Preston has been having a hard time grasping the concept that sleep is a necessity in life. He has decided that he is too old for naps and the over-rated concept of sleep. After a few days of this nonsense of Preston's quick "cat naps" consisting of a 5 minute period, I talked to the doctor about this unruly behavior and she suggested swaddling him really tight because of the baby startle reflex that happens in their sleep. She showed me a trick to swaddling so he could not get his hands out of the blanket and would therefore make it so he would not wake himself up when his reflexes kicked into high gear. So I try it out. I wrap him up real tight so he looks like a little glow worm, so tight you couldn't slip a paper in between the blanket and him. I get him to fall asleep and I put the little glow worm in his bed. And to my amazement he stayed asleep for more than 5 minutes. Tight tight swaddling is the answer...or is it...

I went to go check on him an hour later and this is what I found

I couldn't believe my eyes, how did he do that? And in his sleep nonetheless. We have a Houdini on our hands. So, maybe the swaddling trick worked or maybe Preston finally gave in after 2 days of no sleep.
I should have known that this little guy loves to spread out his arms while sleeping.

That is so funny. That wrap did look good and tight too. You even had it wrapped around his shoulders too so he shouldn't have been able to get out. Well at least he slept.

Wow. He must have really strong arms to have fought his way out of that cocoon! He looks so peaceful...and sleepy. Maybe he's like his daddy and just has way too much energy to just lie around, wasting time sleeping!

Huh, maybe he just wants to spread out after all that time squished in the womb.

Oh, this is Rachel, by the way, not Bekah. I used her password because I guess I'm not invited to view this blog. I see how it is, Amy. Just kidding . . .

Go and buy a "Kiddopotamus" baby wrap! Ethan slept in his until he was 6 months old. you can buy small or larger for when they get longer! He was sleeping completely through the night almost right away! I would have died without this wrap. it goes on tight and velcros around, just be sure it's tight in his shoulders!!! Good luck!
