Hello! So before I post about our trip to DC in November, I have just 2 more trips to put up. These first 3 pictures are of when we went cliff jumping with our good Texas friends at Pace Ben, here in Austin. It was about an hour drive Northwest and we got there a little before sunset. The weather and water were perfect and it was beautiful! We jumped 10-60 footers into the night.

Our second fun Texas themed trip was a hunting trip in October. We went with the Cozads, a friend from work (Josh), and Matt's dad (Marvin). It was a blast! During the day we went dove hunting and then at night we hunted hogs. Dove hunting was pretty relaxed, you just sit there, wait for the bird to fly by and then shoot. Hog hunting was a little more intense....It involved sitting in the bed of a pickup truck with a gun and driving through the brush at about 50 mph. Meanwhile, Josh is hanging out the passenger window and with one hand is using a high powered spotlight to scan through the grass, trying to see the hog's eyes (the other hand has the very important job of holding his beer can). Once we see a pig, guns go off and then we're out of the truck, tromping through the field (which conveniently has large amounts of cactus) looking for the wounded animal. Of course the spotlight did not come with us in our haste to track the pig down, so we are using one tiny, low powered, batteries almost dead flashlight to search. It was slightly creepy and the whole time I just knew one of us was going to be picked off by some
angry hog with 20 ft long tusks. However, eventually we found the hog, took care of business, and then brought it back to the truck, where it happily rode with us in the bed (in between bags of deer corn and my feet). The whole trip was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a true "Redneck" experience.

Josh's brother was kind enough to show us around the town a little bit. It was a weekend and of course we went out to hit the town. We were hungry and decided to get something to eat...However, the town was pretty small and the only food to be had was at the concession stand at the local high school football game...And the high school is so small that the game was played by 12 players, 6 guys on each team! Anyway, it was a nice evening and we got to hang out with Josh's nephew, the boy pictured above. Guess what his name is? Think Texas. Think country. Yup, the little guy wearing the camo shirt, camo shorts, and blue cowboy boots, his name is Shooter. Welcome to Texas. |

The men looking manly... |

Can you see it? It's an armadillo! |

Something I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be posting, but this is a Spanish eagle one of our "guides" spotted and caught to show to us. |
We saw 2 hogs, Matt fired 2 shots while standing up in the speeding truck, and he hit 2 hogs. What a man! |

Beautiful outdoors!!!! |

Me with my first kill, take that Tweety! Don't be mad, just so y'all know we ate all the dove and hog we shot. |
Shooting them was the fun part, now we have to get to the meat... |
And apparently the way to get to the meat is through their little feathers and breast bone. |
Yummy dove meat... |
Jarron working hard to defeather the meat. |

The camp had a cool set up to clean the hog. Matt, Aly, and Marvin don't mind this kind of work, having done it their whole lives. Jarron and I didn't mind standing back and letting the professionals do their thing. |
Daytime hog hunting, a little more civilized. We rode in a SUV that had the windows taken out so we could shot from our comfy, padded seats. |
Some scenery from the land we hunted on |
Sign of a true hunter, a bruise from the shotgun kick. Ok, so maybe it's not supposed to be on my bicep, but look how tough I am! |
Come visit and we'll show you some real country fun :-) |
