Girls Just Wanna Paint - Dog Days

  • This is the teeny tiny front cover of my 2.5x3” book

  • Oh, the dog days of summer!
  • Hot, humid and long.
  • I’ve been hugging the air conditioner while working on a little “concertina” folded book, in my dining room/kitchen studio. This is a meditative way of thinking about how to design each page or spread of pages. I have a hoard of gelli printed papers, ephemera, paint, Posca pens and embellishments.
  • I hope you enjoy these process photos.

Burning Bush

“Burning Bush” 9x12 oil on panel

I painted outdoors on one of the last warm days and was struck by the light shining through the foliage of this flaming orange bush, against the dark background. I knew I had to take it on! It was a struggle to “make” something out of the area around the bush, which was actually a stone wall, but I figured it out using temperature and color.  I had only to create some shadow areas with a grayed down mid range dark. I toned the canvas orange which preserved the glow of the bush.

Ship Model

"Ship Model"
8x8

It's that time of year again and we are all scrambling to get ready for Open Studios which is next Saturday and Sunday from 12-5.

There are many new artists in the Sandpaper Factory and our new owner and steward, Alan, has really spruced up our building with siding and new windows.
Bring your family and friends and have a blast. Maybe pick up something wonderful for someone on your Christmas list!

This is a little painting I did a few weeks back while visiting my friend Bobbi Heath at her cool house in Maine.

This weekend in New Hampshire to celebrate my nephew Ryan's 12th (gasp)birthday.
Guess what he got from his Auntie?

Open Studios Weekend

Party Lights

Open Studios is Christmas-like in terms of anticipation and preparation and then the guests arrive!  I promise to reward all who chug up 4 flights of stairs with refreshments, and wonderful art!
Coinciding with this weekend,  I have a show of 26 paintings in ''The Little Bar" at Bella's Restaurant, 933 Hingham Street (Route 228). They aren't open for lunch but you may ask to see the show at any time and I recommend staying for dinner because the food is great.
My studio is at 83 East Water Street in Rockland, MA 02370 for you GPS users and we are open from 12-5 on Saturday and Sunday. See you there!

Open Studios and A Critique

Our 20th!! Annual Open Studios was a great success!
The good news is if you weren't able to attend you have the next few Saturdays to make it up to yourself. I will be keeping my Studio open to visitors up until Christmas on a drop in or call ahead basis. My black Subaru Outback will be parked nearest to the street with balloons tied to the roof racks and I will have refreshments for all, after that climb to the 4th Floor! Hours will be 12-5.
In other news- I'm delighted to have received a critique from Tony Moffitt on his Artist.Blog.Critique which you can read in it's entirety here. Getting an objective critique is SO VALUABLE and for those who have been waiting for the new blog template I promised you, well..he thinks it would be a good idea too ;)
