Birthday Boy Card

i went to a friend's place yesterday evening who had some friends visiting from sweden, whom the boy and i met 4 years ago while studying hungarian in a language school here. we certainly didn't think we'd see them again, after they went back. funny how life goes.

i made this card for one of the kids who had a birthday last week, using the sketch from get sketchy. this is the first time i've used one of their sketches, but i'm sure i will be more often!!
i also made these yummies to take along, here's the recipe:Chocolate Haystacks
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 heaping tablespoon crunchy peanut butter*
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, cocoa. Heat to boiling, stirring frequently. When it has reached a rolling boil, cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat and mix in vanilla, oats, coconut and peanut butter. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper. Let cool (will harden overnight).

* optional (i wouldn't use peanut butter in canada because of peanut allergies, but interestingly enough, that doesn't seem to be an issue here.)

Photo Tag

i was tagged by the lovely Oliva to choose the 6th photo in the 6th folder of my pictures folder. i'm actually going to show you 2 pics - the "real" one (which is pretty silly - you have been warned :) ... and the one i wish was my 6th pic in the 6th folder :)

vlbf Peter and i had a long-distance relationship for almost 2 years before i moved here and we spent a whole lot of time on skype. it wasn't always easy to come up with things to talk about...

this pic is taken from my bedroom window in Vancouver. for about a month i watched my retired neighbour set up his camper as shown in the pic. when he went away for the summer, i assumed that he was doing the "psychic circuit." his wife was still working, and i was very impressed that he was able and motivated to do something like that.

after mentioning this to Peter a few times, he was interested and i finally took a picture to show him ....now... for the pic i'd rather show you.... the beach in Greece taken last August. we stayed on Kos Island, rented bikes and had Greek salad every day. this was fun, and if you are reading this, i encourage you to do the same!!
