Sammi pulled out her color-set the other day and I joined her for a little drawing . . . it was fun to mess around and awesome to see Sammi's imagination at work! I love to mess around with drawing now and again. One day I want to take an art class (I never have and I know I would love it!) Sammi seems to enjoy it, too!
I went to Starlight Theater with the Relief Society sisters to see Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was a really fun night. The production was pretty darn good, and the acting/singing was entertaining. I love sitting outside under the stars. I had been there before with my family (we saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers -- my FAVORITE!) If you ever have the chance to go, you should . . . it is worth it! :-)
Some of our relief society women . . .
I rode up with Rachelle and we had a great time chatting and snarking cookies.
We were supposed to sit with the rest of our "groupies" but we got separated by tickets -- it was still nice to look at the back of their heads. ;-)
Mary Jo posing for the camera . . . what you can't see is she is holding back tears . . . wishing Erin was there.
Maybe next year Erin will grace us with her presence . . . we can hope! ;-)
Charles was in the kitchen getting ready for a 30 mile backpacking trip with the boy scouts. He was creating some pretty interesting meals (recipes from the handbook.) I should have taken more pictures of him when he got home . . . he had so much fun hiking through the Sawtooth mountains. It was a great trip for all the boys, though many were blistered, sunburned, and one boy lost the bottom of his shoe on the first day! Thank goodness for duct tape! Charles was sunburned, had one blister and he smashed his fingernail into a rock, but besides that he was totally thrilled, happy, and a new man!
While Charles was gone I decided to get down to business . . . It was the perfect opportunity for me to do the "room switch". We traded rooms with the kids, and I converted our walk-in closet into a room for Sammi . . . I ripped out all the hardware, filled the holes with putty, used the power-drill/saw to remove the bottom shelves and then painted walls/shelves until 3am in the morning. I turned her room into a little magical paradise, with a touch of (pictures of) Hobbiton and Hogwarts -- she LOVES it, and so do I! It just got to the point where something had to be done, she needed her own space away from the boys. . . it was the prefect solution! And I spent a total of $0.00. using only things that we already had, including paint (with the exception of ink from the printer, for the wall pictures.) Sammi is a happy girl, and she helped me the whole time, she painted and did whatever I needed. It was a fun thing to create together . . . when I was done I became the "best mom ever". ;-) Amazing what a little paint will do!
I felt so alive being able to create something and once again discover the diamond in the rough . . . !!
Go create something, anything! Even cookies! (and feel free to share them with me!) It will give you JOY!
