Makeup in Space?

 Hi ya Gorgeous!

Happy Friday! Oh wow - what a whirlwind! We just got back from Washington DC and it still feels like a dream to have been able to make that journey with my son. To everyone who donated and made the mission possible, thank you!

One of our favorite parts to the trip, was a journey into Virginia to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy a Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

We took a subway train, car ride and then bus ride to get back to the station to take the train. It was definitely an adventure and a good lesson for my son. There is very little mass public transit in Arizona or California meaning we rely on the car the majority of the time.

Washington DC had a clean, easy to use metro subway station with lots of options for quick travel. The fares seemed to be reasonable?  You buy a card for $2, then load it with money to ride on - and when you exit through the turn style you swipe your card and it debits the cost of that trip from the card.

Easy peasy.

Now about the space makeup that was on display in what I would call a "memorabilia" case.

Look closely at the tags and you can see that from left to right: eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, makeup remover, lipstick and creme blush.  I thought this to be the coolest thing ever. Ladies in space lookin' good! I think sometimes, putting on a fresh face and a pop of color on your lips can brighten your mood and help you take on the day.  This display did not say who the makeup belonged to or which astronaut traveled with or used it.  I just liked seeing the makeup as part of the history of NASA.  Way to go Revlon!

There was a second display of some of the male astronaut body care products including lotion, deodorant, razors, tooth paste, shave cream and lip balm. The white with tan stripe pants in the background of the photo are a type of diaper to be worn under the flight suit to allow for a bathroom break.

Finally, the shuttle that has been to space and back - meet Discovery. It's on display in a hangar in the museum and you can walk all around it but not in it. It was a real delight to see this piece of living history and possibly the makeup that rode in it.

Fridays are for Fun and New Lippies - 2020!

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Happy Friday!
So, how is 2020 treating you so far? Are you staying on track with your intentions and resolutions?

If you have seen any news, nationally and world wide, there has been one brouhaha after another! Australia is on fire, there has been rumor of World War 3 starting and #megxit is trending due to Prince Harry and Megan stepping down from royal duties.

Wow.
2020 you don't mess around!

So that's why we need a light moment to remind ourselves, that no matter what we face, all things are possible with a great lippie!

This infamous shade, a semi matte blue toned pink from Charlotte Tilbury, "PILLOW TALK" was all over the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

If you buy one thing this year, let it be this lipstick and this link will take you to Amazon to buy a travel size set that is perfect for your purse or pocket as you jet set through your life in 2020.

The Aeronauts & Jane Iredale "Come Fly With Me" Holiday Color Story

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Hello Thanksgiving week! I'm so thankful for you!

Special thanks go to Amazon Studios for the lovely party and screening of The Aeronauts film, in theaters on December 6 and on Amazon Prime December 20th. Special thanks again to Jane Iredale for the makeup samples of the new Come Fly With Me holiday color story.

I also received several brushes, eye shadow primer, blush and mascara along with the lippies and palette. All or any of these goodies can take you from day time work makeup to night time date or cocktail party. Stay tuned for a collab with these - and no, it's not Jefferee or Shane.

Overall impression, I love the lip glosses and liners. The spice liner reminds me of MAC spice liner from the 80's! I really like the palette and the shadows wear well and using them wet makes for a great long lasting liner. The brown and black colors have a hint of sparkle to them making it perfect for your holiday party look or New Year's eve makeup.

Jane Iredale can be found on Amazon, or in Naime's! Visit the website to find a location near you.

Hope you enjoy the video and let me know in the comments what you are thankful for! Jane Iredale makeup available on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2DdYAfj

EM Color Drops Serum Blush - First Makeup I've Been Excited About In a Long Time

 Hi ya Gorgeous,

So let's just say I've been doing makeup for a century and I have seen that, been there, done that and again for quite some time. Like bell bottom pants or, ahem, boot cut pants, or ahem ahem, flared pants come back around and around and around in fashion, same goes for makeup.

The style doesn't go away it just recycles itself and when it comes to product, the ingredients get better and formulations and performance get better.

Enter the EM Color Drops Serum Blush.

This is the first product in a long time that I am actually excited about. I think the formulation is something that can be eyes/lips/cheeks and possibly even body too.

I'm happy to see Michelle Phan coming back to makeup on her own terms and creating something specifically for her and her fans.

Next up - getting my hands on this product! In the meantime, here are the highlights from the website:

p.s.  Let me know in the comments if you have used this and what you think!

Merle Norman for Summer Beauty

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Happy Monday! Woo hoo! The countdown to school being out is officially less than two weeks!
Can you say excited? Not necessarily because I'm about to hear "I'm bored" a dozen times a day, but because there will be no heinous hundred plus mile commute per day! Hallelujah!

Since summer vacation is almost here, it's time for a "go to" makeup palette and I'm loving this sample I received from Merle Norman.

I have been playing with these products for over a week now and have worn them almost every day. I can honestly say the colors have a good pigment load, where well all day with very little fading - though, I do use an eyeshadow primer. Smashbox 24 hour eyeshadow primer to be exact.

The ocean blue eyeliner is my favorite! The weird "blur" serum is my least favorite from the skincare samples I received. Although, I must say, I am love love lovin' the super thick and rich night cream!

The mascara definitely requires a remover. Soap and water is not enough to get your lashes clean so having a makeup remover for eyes or a facial makeup removing wipe is going to be needed.

Over all, if you have the opportunity, visit your local Merle Norman studio. See, that's the catch. All Merle Norman studios are independently owned and operated - so that's why I don't have any prices to post.  It could vary from one location to another and from one state to another!

Most Merle Normans will do a complimentary makeover with the products to introduce you to the brand, colors and products. It's worth giving it a try!  Visit the Merle Norman website to find a location near you!

I did a "first impressions" video on Facebook when the products first arrived - you can check it out here with this link.

If you are part of the Facebook page for Makeup University, which gets daily updates - you are a part of it, aren't you? If not, get on board over there using this link!

...and...have you seen this Facebook Live in a GRWM for the royal wedding? Good times!
I usually do a live chat in the late morning - join me!

Jane Iredale Glow Time® Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream - What Your Busy Easter Weekend Needs!

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Oh girl - these days - these days though! It's been cray cray around here! I'm just trying to get these Passover Brunch plans and Easter baskets made yet life has been coming at me pretty fast. Too fast!

Girl, I don't even have time to drink a glass of wine! Now that's serious!

Ok, but what I do have is just a few minutes to get ready in the morning and the Arizona sun is already back - and it's hot.

I'm using my samples from Jane Iredale, thank you Jane - and this BB creme is just about everything a busy mom needs for the final run to the end of school and then the beginning of summer vacation.

Now, it's full coverage meaning a great natural barrier for sun protection, it's reef safe, and made with a natural mineral that adjusts to your skin tone - for real!  I was so surprised! It needs a few minutes to adjust on the skin.  Meaning, apply this first or be sure you leave time in your morning beauty routine to apply and give it several minutes, like 5, to adjust on your face.

It's $48 of healthy skin care based beauty in a BB creme that can wear for hours - ask me how I know - and it's safe for use on psoriasis skin or those with a natural red tone/pigment to the skin - it does not turn red - it adjusts to your melanin level.

Overall, it's just good stuff. Moms, busy career ladies, sporty college gals and high schoolers who need coverage, sun protection and a great face of makeup, you just may love this Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream from Jane Iredale! Get it online or at Nordstroms.

Here are some details from the Jane Iredale website:
  • Contains SPF 25 or SPF 17* broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun protection.*
  • Water resistant to 40 minutes.
  • Minimizes the appearance of pores and helps disguise fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Smoothes and brightens skin.
  • Non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, sensitivity tested, clinically tested, dermatologist tested.
* SPF 25 - shades: BB1, BB3, BB5, BB6, BB7 and BB8
SPF 17 - shades: BB9, BB11 and BB12

Next, I also got a sample of the D2O Hydration Spray and I love it!  I'm gonna have to get another one of these after my sample runs out! In general, I swear by having spray atomizers of mineral water or toner waters close by because a light spritz to your face at any time of the day - is a perfect way to give a blast of hydration to skin, set makeup, refresh makeup and give you a fast fresh look.

This Jane Iredale D2O hydration spray is EcoCertified safe for the reefs and environment. It has price ranges from $30-$67.  It's available on the Jane Iredale website and at Nordstroms.

  • A facial spritz based on Ylang Ylang that helps to hydrate and plump skin cells, and contains ingredients to calm and protect the skin.
  • Sets minerals for a long lasting, smooth finish.
  • A must for post-laser.
  • Use to wet brushes and turn powder eye shadows into eyeliner.

I say this is a staple for your spring and summer beauty bags- and for those going to Coachella  - you will want this in your beauty routine!

How to use the Beauty and the Beast makeup color story from LORAC for everyday wear

Hi ya Gorgeous

How's your Monday now? Or should I say, how's your summer? Here in Arizona, the summer is in full broil and school for the cub starts back in 3  short weeks ...or are they short? He is definitely ready to go back and see his friends which brings to mind the question that year round school, with a 2 week break in between semesters would do just fine. On to the makeup!

I recently received some very lovely samples from LORAC of their color story collection for the reboot of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Something to know going forward, I am ride or die for the original 1990's animated version and none to thrilled about another warmed over version of an Oscar winning trophy of a film.  In short, I have not seen the film yet, and when it arrives on Netflix, I will let you know my thoughts.

In the meantime, I think that LORAC has knocked it out of the park again, with Disney, and another amazing, collector edition of a makeup color story for a film. I was SO impressed with the Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales collection ,though this is just as stunning.

I have the eyeshadow pallet, cheek color palette, lipglosses and lipsticks and I'm beyond delighted! The colors are everyday perfect and if you know LORAC products, you know how soft, silky, smooth, blendable, pigmented, wet or dry they are!

I love all of the lip colors and the lipsticks or lip glosses can be worn alone, with liner, paired together or mixed and matched!

If you are a fan of anything Disney, Belle, Beast, the film or LORAC and special editions, rush to get these now because who knows how long they will be around!

Best of Beauty Junkees with Makeup University

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Happy Monday to you! It's great to be back on the normally scheduled post! Heads up for April! I've had some wonderful opportunities come my way so you will be seeing an additional special post or so coming at you!

This week has been one of playing catch up with all of the things that needed to be caught up on! I completed my documentary on women in racing and truth be told, I have not worked on a documentary in quite some time! It was so good to be back in the research and writing saddle again!

Now this week I have some new goodies that are graduation gift giving perfect as well as something for the Mom in your life from Beauty Junkees.

This Beauty Junkees highlight and contour powder palette actually contains a "banana" powder in the top left corner. If you haven't tried using a yellow based powder to set your makeup with - try it - that little hint of yellow helps balance skin, add warmth and make you look amazois!

This Beauty Junkees magnetic palette is just what you want for yourself for travel and everyday life shenanigans! I know that Mother's Day and Graduation gift giving is coming up - or even for sending your teenage daughter to cheerleading camp - this magnetic palette lets you customize your colors and mix and match powders with cremes. As a pro artist, I've been using a magnetic palette for decades. Note there are several extra magnetic discs included in the kit so you can depot your fave colors from other brands and put them in the Beauty Junkee palette!

Beauty Junkees has your lips covered! This soft but effective lip pumice is for help removing long wearing lip products and keeping your lips free of chapping flakes which makes your lip products wear better!

Beauty Junkees has a new dual ended cream crayon that is part matte concealer and part highlighter.  This is the kind of tool you want to keep in your purse because you can use it to fix your brows, add highlight anywhere on t he face and even do a bit of camouflaging!

In short, I'm a fan of the Beauty Junkees brand and their commitment to women business, making their products in the USA and encouraging positive self esteem with gals!  Get yours online at http://beautyjunkees.com

The other thing you are going to see in the video is an introduction to this, the Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box which is so amazing it needs it's own video so I can make the recipes for you! Stay tuned!

Finally, my favorite section of the blog and video is "What Are You Reading This Week"?.  I read the Gary Chapman "5 Love Languages" book and really learned some practical tips for maneuvering in my many relationships between friends, family and now, this book is specifically for children.

The book this week is so key to helping you help your kids - if you haven't read Gary Chapman's "5 Love Languages" - you need too! If you don't want to read his book for you, then read his book on the 5 love languages for kids - you'll be doing yourself a great service if you do!

As always, thank you so much for your support. Now let's get into this week's video!
