November Is In The Air....

This oak leaf got hung up in my winterberry bush so I photographed it on a frosty morning.

More Frost...

Here's another photo I took the other day. I did a couple of variations of this, one with a large apeture and one with a small apeture setting. I prefer the shallow depth of field in this shot, it brings more attention to the ice crystals on the top of the seed head.

Weather Changes Fast Around Here...

I took this photo about half an hour ago. It's hard to believe but just three days ago I was riding my motorcycle. This weekend we had a snow storm and this morning when I got up it was 12 degrees outside. Definitely not motorcycle riding weather. More snow is in the forecast later this week.

Frosted Goldenrod...

Hard to believe, not too long ago this was a nice bright yellow.

More November Color...

The leaves on lower growing shrubs tend to stay on the plants a little longer because they're not exposed to the wind as much as a full grown tree.

More Frost....

Another frosty, backlit close up.

Halloween Frost....

This was the most halloweeny looking photo I could find in my archives so I thought it would be appropriate to post it. Of course it was taken at my favorite spot, Sabattus River.

More Frost....

Here's another leaf photo from Friday. The patch of red in the upper right was the sun hitting a colored oak tree.

Jack Frost Nipping the Air....

Friday morning it was clear and cold and there was a heavy frost outside so I had to get out there and take some photos. The sun was shining through some trees behind this leaf and one beam was highlighting the frost making the edges glow. On mornings like this you have to move quickly because once the sun hits the frost it melts.

Late Post Today......

Yesterdays ice storm kicked out my power for almost 24 hours so that's why todays post is late. This photo was taken last Saturday morning when we had the real heavy frost. Every time I had put my camera in the verticle position I lost battery power, after fiddling around a bit I was finally able to get this shot. It was the next day that it was pointed out to me that my battery pack had come loose and because of that the battery connection was broken. I learn something new every day.

Never Ending Winter......

I think we had more snow last week than we did all of last winter, seems like it anyway. It snowed Friday but cleared up over night and Saturday morning was extremely cold but with no wind. I went to the river and everything was covered in a thick coating of rime ice, these two photos were taken just before the sun came up.

It's Frigid Again....

This is what happens when you have a cold night with no wind, especially by the river where there is more moisture in the air to create frost. It's going to be another cold weekend so hopefully I'll get out there with the camera to get some photos to post next week.

More Frost...

There is more snow predicted for tonight into tomorrow; I don't think we had this much snow for the whole winter season last year. The weatherman says this coming Sunday there is a chance of rain and a possible high of near 50; Maine weather, go figure. This photo was taken on one of those bitterly cold mornings we had last week.
