TUTORIAL: Creating Starburst Papers in MyMemories

Hey MyMemories Friends!
This is Mags from MagsGraphics - here to share some scrappy fun with you!  STARBURST/SUNBURST papers are a popular trend right now.  Today, I’m going to show you how to create your own starburst/sunburst papers in MyMemories Suite - using your own colors or papers from a kit.

Note - This tutorial by me was originally published on the MyMemories Blog on May 24, 2019.

This Video Tutorial uses MyMemories Suite Software (Save $10 OFF the purchase price with this code: STMMMS90118) and references the OLD FRIENDS Collection.

For those who prefer WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS, here are the basics.

  1. Start a new canvas.
  2. Use the shape tool to add a right triangle.  Enlarge your triangle so it is at least half the size of your canvas.
  3. Duplicate and rotate additional triangles around your canvas so they meet at a center point.
  4. Change the colors of your triangles or cover them with your favorite paper.
  5. You can adjust the wide-ness of your original triangle to something long and narrow before you duplicate and rotate it for a different look.
  6. If you are going to build a layout from this, you can cover any imperfections at the center with a photo or elements.
  7. If you are going to save this as a background paper to use again in a future layout, make sure there are no shadows on your shapes.  Arrange everything so the points of the triangles line up cleanly in the middle.  At the top toolbar, go to SHARE → EXPORT → JPG → LARGE and save this to your computer.  You can bring it in as “outside content” and use it as a paper in future layouts!

Using Standard Templates in MyMemories Suite

Hey Scrappy Friends!

I've got a new VIDEO TUTORIAL for you!  This tutorial was first published on the MyMemories Blog, and I'm reposting it below for you.

Today, I’m going to show you how to use standard “TEMPLATES” in MyMemories Suite!

When you purchase a Template from another scrap store, you usually get the templates in .TIFF, .PSD, and individual PNGS.  MyMemories is NOT compatible with .TIFF or .PSD, BUT there IS a workaround to use the PNG files!

This Video Tutorial uses MyMemories Suite Software (Save $10 OFF the purchase price with this code: STMMMS90118) and the “Home & Heart” collection by me - available at MyMemories.

Open MyMemories Suite and click “Design.”
When you first open MMS, you should get a splash screen.  If not, click on File → NEW, and that splash screen will appear.  Choose DESIGN and then CREATE.

You can use any set of PNGs from a Template, but if you want to work with the same ones that I use in this tutorial, download HERE. (Extract and save to your computer.)

Watch this Video.

For those who prefer WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS, here are the basics.
  1. Use the Embellishments Tab on the left-side menu to navigate to the folders where the PNG files are kept from the template you want to use.
  2. Once you can see them, drag and drop them one-by-one IN ORDER (bottom to top!) onto your page.
  3. Using the LEFT-side menu, click on the layers tab.  Scroll down to the layer you want to work with, and select that layer. (YOU NEED to use the Layers Tab because the large areas of transparency on each layer prohibit you from selecting a lower layer just by clicking on the canvas.
  4. With your layer selected, on the right-side menu, under the EMBELLISHMENTS tab, click on PHOTO (this will allow you to add a JPG to cover that PNG file.  Navigate to where you keep the papers for the kit you are using, and select. We are using the “PHOTO” option because photos and papers are jpg files and is all the same to MyMemories Suite.  If you install all of your content INTO the MyMemories Suite software, then you will choose the “PAPER” icon instead of “PHOTO.”
  5. The paper you have selected will, in essence, cover the PNG file.  Repeat steps 3 & 4 for each layer of your template.
  6. The tiny buttons, flowers, etc. are really just place holders.  Delete or hide those layers, and add the embellishments of your choice in their spots.

Keep in mind that MyMemories has a HUGE selection of Album Templates, Photobook Templates, and Page Builders that are specifically created for use and easy customization in MyMemories suite.  But, if you happen across a standard template that you really like elsewhere in “digi land,” you now know how to use adapt them for use in MMS!

Thanks for following along!  I would love to see your results of this tutorial!  Show them off in any of these Facebook Groups, and be sure to tag me!

Handy Guide to MyMemories Suite

Hey Scrappy Friends -

I've mentioned several times that while I use Photoshop to design my digiscrap products, I much prefer MyMemories Suite for my personal scrapbooking (It's easy, fast, intuitive, and I can crank out a LOT of layouts quickly!).  I had a request from a MyMemories customer to explain some terms as they relate to the MyMemories Suite Software so I created this guide:

You can download it in PNG format (8.5"x11") or in PDF if you want your own copy.

Some important things to note.
  1. You can totally use scrap kits purchased at a different store in MyMemories Suite!  This is considered "Outside Content."  Papers can be brought in through the "Backgrounds" tab (for the very back of a layout) and through the "Embellishments' tab (to resize, rotate, and stack on a layout).  Elements can be brought in through the Embellishments tab as well.

  2. WINDOWS or MAC? - Both are supported with MyMemories Suite!  When downloading kits, the General Download options works for any operating system. If you like to install your purchases from MyMemories into the software, then you just choose the download option that fits your computer.

  3. Regarding TEMPLATES from other stores.  At this time (MMS, version 9), .TIFF, .PSD, and .PAGE formats are NOT supported.  Most "Templates" that you find at other stores come in .TIFF and .PSD, and those cannot be used.  However, there IS a way to use the layered .PNG files if they are included in a Template set you buy from another store.  I'm working on a VIDEO TUTORIAL on that right now.  Stay tuned!

If you are interested in trying out MMS, there is a FREE TRIAL offered here.

Designer Tip - Using Paper Shapes in MyMemories Suite

NOTE - I originally published this tutorial on August 15, 2019 on the MyMemories Blog.

Hey MyMemories Friends!
This is Mags from MagsGraphics - here to share some scrappy fun with you!

Using assorted papers strips and shapes will add interest and depth to your layouts.  In an earlier blog post from Albums 2 Remember, you learned how to add paper to shapes within MyMemories Suite.  She gave steps on adding papers from kits that were installed INTO the MMS program.  However, I don’t install any of the kits I purchase from MyMemories into the software; I prefer to use the “General” download button, and save all of my kits by theme on my External Hard Drive.  Then I can easily use the graphics in other programs as well.  So I’m going to show you how to add papers from kits that are NOT installed in the software (but you are still using the MyMemories Suite program), and I have some amazing layouts to share with you that effectively use paper shapes and strips.

Adding Paper From “Outside Content” to a Shape in MMS…

  1.  Open MyMemories Suite.  Start a new project or canvas.  For this sample layout, I’m using items from my BOOK NERD Collection.
  2. Add your first shape.  Be sure to size it the way you want it.  If you size if AFTER you add a paper, it will skew the paper details.  You can add a shape from either the Left Side Menu (drag-n-drop) or the Right Side Menu (click & choose).

  1. Instead of clicking “Paper” on the Right Side Menu, click “PHOTO.”  Photos and Papers are both in JPG format so you can will be able to “trick” the software into adding a paper from outside of the software.

  1. Navigate to the folder where you keep the kit papers that you want to work with.  Double-click and it will add your paper. If you need to make adjustments to how the paper shows up in the shape, just double-click on that shape and move it around.
  2. Here are many shapes stacked; can you see how this is “shaping” up to be a cool layout? 😉

  1. Now you can add your background paper, and a box (or boxes) for photos:

Now you can start stacking your different paper shapes under your photos to make some colorful and dynamic layouts.  Take a look at these examples.  (Images are linked to the collections used.)

I have a special treat for you!  I’ve provided the layout I just showed you how to make as a 12”x12” QUICK PAGE!  It is available for download thought my Gallery Showcase Group on Facebook.  This Quick Page uses BOOK NERD, a MyMemories Exclusive for August.  I hope you’ll snag up the rest of the collection!

Now it’s YOUR turn!  Try layering paper shapes in your layouts!  I’d love to see your layouts - Show them off in any of these Facebook Groups:
