Mixed media rings tutorial for Lindy´s / МК по миксмедийным кольцам

Hi, beautiful gang!

Today I decided to dive into the jewelry world and create several unique rings. I will show you a simple way to make your own striking rings! You will need minimum mixed media materials, but the essentials are our Lindy´s Magicals and the fantastic chunky Metal Maniacs embossing powders.

Mixed media rings DIY jewelry tutorial by Maria Lillepruun

Enjoy the video!

BASIC PROCESS

  1. First of all, I attached some chosen zinc alloy embellishments (pendants) to the ring blanks. The best way to do it is using a really sticky but flexible in use Heavy Body Gel (or any other gel adhesive).
  2. When the gel is set, I mixed together some white gesso and our wonderful Magicals (first Cowabunga Copper, then added some Midnight Rendezvous to it - all from the Totally 80's Shimmer Magicals set). This way I created my own acrylic paints with metallic shimmer. I painted the rings with these paints.
  3. Then, I added some rhinestones to the center of two rings with the same Heavy Body Gel.
  4. When all the surfaces were dry, I took out my beloved chunky EPs. I chose Tin Roof, Rusted! and Chip Off the Old Black from the Metal Maniacs set. I applied the dry powder to the rings here and there, especially around the rhinestones, attaching the powders to the Soft Gloss Gel. But any acrylic medium, gel or mixed media glue will work here. The heated EPs melt and turn into liquid metal :) This looks so awesome on the metallic surfaces. Randomly hot melt chunky EP turned my cheap zinc alloy rings into rather old and rusty, but exquisite jewelry.
  5. I also applied some toppings (microbeads, metal dust) to a couple of rings, gluing them onto the Soft Gloss Gel. This added some extra emphasis to the center of the rings. Toppings can be a great addition, but it is definitely not essential, because the chunky EPs are just so beautiful on their own.

Let´s take another look at my new rings.

DIY tote bag decoration tutorial

DIY tote bag tutorial by Maria Lillepruun

Hi, beautiful friends!

Do you use tote bags? I have to admit, I use them pretty often, and I especially like the ones with custom prints or other decorations. So here is my new tutorial on a DIY tote bag. I bought a simple white cotton bag and personalised it with the beautiful Lindy´s Gang products.

DIY tote bag tutorial by Maria Lillepruun

Here is how I altered the tote bag.

BASIC PROCESS

  1. I took a cotton tote bag and insterted a baking mat inside of it, so the back side of the bag would stay dry and clean after I color the front side.
  2. Then, I prepared my custom texture paste by mixing the 3D gloss gel with the Scintillating Silver magical powder from the Glitzy Magicals set. My intentionwas to obtain some elastic transparent paste that would be somewhat sparkling after it would dry. Speaking ahead, I was very pleased with the result - check the end of my video for the close-up on the glossy texture on the tote bag surface!
  3. I applied the custom made texture paste through the stencil on to the bag front side, and let it dry.
  4. After, I sprayed the surface over in a monocromatic way, using five ink sprays: Creme Brulee Cream, Mad Hatter Mint, Tilt-a-Wheel Teal, T-bird Turquoise and Merry-Go-Round Green, and let it dry completely.
  5. Later, glued all the embellishments with contact glue, and stitched them onto the bag.
  6. As a final touch, I added some color with the same sprays on the fabric flowers, and squeezed some green liquid drops here and there.
  7. When all was dry, I sprayed the decorated front side of the bag with satine acrylic varnish.

Día de Muertos mask restoration video

Mask alteration by Maria Lillepruun

Dear friends!

Today´s video is something different from what I had been shooting before. Recently, I bought this Día de Muertos Mexican mask in a local second-hand shop. It is made rather cheaply and cost me just 2 EUR. The mask was rather dirty, so I washed it with a damp tissue. There are many little bits of damage in the paint layer, as well as a bigger paint loss on the nose area. So I decided to restore the vivid colors and add something even more to the mask…

Mask alteration by Maria Lillepruun

I should definitely mention that my artistic alteration of the mask is not a proper museum restoration. This is simply to refresh the once beautiful mask so that I could hang it on al wall or maybe even wear to a masquerade. So please do not try to repeat the process on a really old or valuable piece of art 😉

Basic Process

  1. First, I cleaned the mask with a damp cloth. I also cleaned the inside of the mask with ethanol and painted white. This process is not on the video, sorry.
  2. Then, I took three Lindy’s Gang sprays and partially dyed the artificial fabric flowers around the mask. I used Summer Lovin’ Sun and Cowabunga Copper on the flowers, and Bells of Ireland Green of the leaves.
  3. The next step is the paint layer renewal. I mixed the chosen Lindy´s Magicals with the soft gloss gel, which resulted in beautiful semi-transparent paints. No water needed for the paints. I had some near me only to clean the brushes. My chosen Magicals were of the same colors that were present on the mask. So I picked Rizzo´Rowdy Red for the red areas, Tears on My Pillow Tangerine for the orange, Golden Sleigh Bells to retouch the yellow parts, Edelweiss Moss Green for green and French Lilac Violet for purple areas. I colored all the originally painted parts over with my new self-made paint and let it dry. I also colored the edges of the fabric leaves with the same Edelweiss Moss Green paint to make them look more versatile.
  4. Then I took some heavy gesso black and colored over the black parts. The heavily damaged nose area demanded 3 layers of gesso so that the paint layer would look even.
  5. When the paint and the gesso were all dry, I touched up some painted areas with the soft gloss gel and sprinkled some nail glitter with large particles over those areas. I also did for the flowers and the leaves for a more complex and festive look.
  6. Finally, I took a hot melt glue gun and some black handmade paper flowers, and attached them to the mask to enrich its floral decoration.

Cosmos magnets for Lindy´s Gang - TUTORIAL

Hi!

Here is a new tutorial on one of my favorite topics - cute little free form creations. I like to make free form ATCs and magnets a lot! They are great to give to friends as tiny gifts, aren´t they?

One of the fun ways to use Lindy´s Gang products is on the black background, mixing the sprakly Starbursts with chunky embossing powders. Here is my take. Enjoy my new video!

BASIC PROCESS
  • I took a handful of old plastic fluorescent stars and a little crescent from my kids´ nursery and decided to turn them into the cosmic magnets. My kids doesn´t need them anymore anyway... So I covered the stars with black gesso from both sides. By the way, it is a good idea to degrease the plastic with alcohol before applying the gesso.
  • After the gesso was dry, I added some color and shimmer, using Lindy´s Gang Starburst spray Bachelor Button Blue.
  • Later, I attached the main decorations - the chipboard die cuts - to the front stars, using a contact glue.
  • Then, I decided to enrich the background (and blend the chipboard with it) by applying two layers of chunky embossing powders. First I melted some Don´t Scream Aquamarine (from the Rock It! set), and then added some Carefree Verdigris (from the Metal Maniacs set).
  • For additional decoration, I added some crystals, blue microbeads, iridescent sequins and black glass drops to the surface. I used soft gloss gel to glue the toppings.
  • When the stars were totally dry, I spayed them over with a glossy acrylic varnish.

Let´s see the magnets closer, shall we?

Five DIY easy mixed media gift cards / МК по миксмедийным папкам

Hi guys!
This is me on the Lindy's Blog today with a new tutorial on how I made 5 different gift card holders for a professional photographer to give or sell to her clients. These holders are meant to keep the photography session gift cards.

According to the photographer´s wish, all the card holders are in different style. However, I used the same mixed media "algorithm" on all of them. It is pretty easy. Take a look!

Vintage wall decor tutorial / Фото-МК по винтажному панно

Hello, dear friends!

I am here to present my new project for Lindy´s Gang! I am sorry to say that I had a total technical collapse this month… My car, my video camera and some other smaller gadgets were seriously damaged. So this time I could not film a video tutorial for you, and I made it photo tutorial. But I am getting a new video camera soon! (Right after I repair the car…)

So here we go. I made a pretty big wall decoration, using many shakers, sprays and a new chunky EP!

Tags for Lindy´s Gang + Tutorial

/English below/

Today I will show you three simple tags that I decorated with our new fantastic chunky embossing powders and my favorite sprays. Basically, this is a Lindy´s Gang product test. The tags will serve as product examples on a crafts fair, but why not just take these techniques and implement them on your own projects? Very simple, but striking! Enjoy the video!

Door Hanger Tutorial / МК по табличке на дверь

Hi beautiful Lindy’s gang!

Here is my new tutorial on a neo-vintage door hanger. This is a very necessary thing in my house! It has no sign “Do not disturb” on it, but when my kids see it on my studio door, they know that they should not come in at the moment, because their mommy is filming a new tutorial for the Lindy´s Gang friends and followers.

Here is how I made the door hanger.

BASIC PROCESS
  • I took a plywood blank and applied some texture through a stencil, using white modeling paste. I had not covered the blank with gesso first, because I wanted to impregnate it with inks to achieve a certain colorful effect.
  • Then I colored the dried blank, using Lindy´s Gang sprays Moon Shadow Mist Phantom Fuchsia and Starburst Red Hot Poker Orange. The chipboard key was then colored with Maple Syrup Bronze squirt.
  • After everything was dry, I assembled all the details on the door hanger, attaching the chipboard, the metal embellishments and the handmade flower with contact glue. I died all the embellishments with the same sprays and squirt.
  • Later, I enriched the mixed media background with text stamps and golden pen doodling. And added a beautiful greenish tone to the background and embellishments with Beaver Tail Brown squirt.
  • As a final touch, I added golden glass glitter to the door hanger to make it look more glamorous.

Mixed media ATC Tea Party Tutorial / MK

ENG Hello, dear Lindy's Gang friends!
We are in the middle of winter, but I already strive for Spring! So I have made a set of joyful Spring mixed media ATC that I called "Tea Party". I am in love with Lindy´s Gang sprays! You can use them for so many purposes. I used them here to create the colorful background, to color the chipboard and to retouch the decorations after they had all been assembled on the cards.

Video tutorial

Basic Process

  • First, I primed the cardstock with white gesso, so it created a perfect background for the transparent rice paper. I then glued the latter onto the cardstock, using 3D Gloss Gel and a little water. Basically, you can do it with any other decoupage medium, PVA or matte varnish. It is iportant to apply your medium both under and on top of the rice paper to seal it.
  • Then, I applied so white gesso here and there on to the surface, and took out my Lindy´s sprays! I colored my cards partly with cheerful Summer Lovin' Sun, Peony Scarlet Red and Bells of Ireland Green Shimmer Spray
  • I used the same sprays to color my chipboards, and sealed them over with the embossing powder called Spring Leaf Chartreuse.
  • After that, I arranged my tiny compositions on the cards, combining bunny stickers (first glued to the cardstock), chipboard, flowers, die cuts, other embellishments in layers. After I was happy with the composition, I glued all to the surface using contact glue and hot melt glue.
  • When the decorations were attached, I used the same Summer Lovin' Sun flat spray to add some sunshine to the decorations, combining them with the background.
  • Final step - the sequins and large glitter! I attached them all using a transparent crackle varnish, but any glossy medium will do this job as well.
