Behind the scenes: 2016 Christmas cards

Oh, how I love paper!

I don't even know when it started but even since I remember I love everything to do with paper. From handwritten letters, to photographs and books and notebooks. Then, I'd start buying / hoarding paper, like, just because its pretty colours or interesting textures or cool patterns. I've tried to craft my way with paper too, from book binding, notebook making, to collages, to pompoms to piƱatas, definitely an eclectic mix but it all for my love for paper. It's been years since I keep a drawer unit full of paper (told you, I'm a paper hoarder) and is always the best when I get to use it!

All this to tell you a story: This summer we spent a week in Nova Scotia, a place that has the effect of filling me with inspiration. This time it was not the exception. One day, Amelia and I visited the Public Library and Amelia got into herself to play in the computers. While I was sitting, defeated in the fact that she wasn't in the mood to check out books with me but just play games, my eye caught the cover of this book that had colourful flowers on it. I lunged to grab it immediately, like a hungry person being offered a box of warm donuts and my, oh my it was love at first sight. I could feel the sparkle coming out of my eyes and heart in that very moment. The book is called From paper to Petal and if you like paper or flowers, gawd, you NEED to see it. After hungrily finishing it all in one afternoon I went straight out to the nearest Omer DeSerres (for those outside Canada, it's a art supply shop)completely set on getting crepe paper and all the supplies I'd need to start making paper flowers. Alas, it was a bit disappointing to find out this shop doesn't carry much interesting stuff for paper flower-making but, hey, what's Etsy and Amazon for, right? I made my first order of crepe paper that same day, eager to receive it and start making!

Once I got all my supplies and made my first flower, I knew I was hooked. I felt like paper had a bigger purpose in life now and that I had found it! Total revelation. Ever since, I've been dedicating a few hours a day to make flowers and beside finding it immensely rewarding, it's also a relaxing and calming activity, which is something that benefits me greatly.

So, all this to tell you that after starting making these flowers I knew I had to find more ways to put them to use and share them with everybody and the idea of making holiday cards came up. Next, I invite you to see a few photos of the process, from flower making to  photography. I hope you enjoy it!

It was really fun to make all the flowers, practising my -poor- calligraphy skills and do paper cuts for the words. Then the photoshot was great and then the editing and looking forward to the final result after so many weeks of working on this project! Then the graphic design part wasn't going that well (I suck at it) but then I had lots of help when Christen Strang jumped in to save the day and helped me get ready for printing! Thank you so much girl! So as you can see, a long but very cool process.

If you'd like to see more about the finished cards, visit my previous blog post or simply visit my shop! Thank you so much for your support!

Heat Wave - Look Book

I showed you the other day some of the photos of my new collection + look book and the inspiration behind the new pieces but there are so many more beautiful photos from the look book that I can't help but share them with you!

I was so lucky to work again with the talented photographer Sarah Emily St-Gelais who captured perfectly the feel of my new collection through her lens. And I feel also very fortunate to have worked with an amazing team of lovely, lovely young women that helped me making everything perfect for the photos: Sara Emily as I told you before, Sarah Ladouceur worked her make-up magic; Katherine Berthelot was our beautiful model; All the gorgeous clothing you see is designed and made by Zoe G Kocsis which styled the shoot and Siam Obregon made a little video to document our adventures.

I cannot say enough how grateful I am to have worked with these girls. Their energy, advice, kind words and time were such that I feel humble and grateful to the creative community I live in and to their amazing kindness. Please, if you are reading this, check out their work, they are amazing and so talented, such bright minds!

For the look book, I wanted something simple, fresh, beautiful and uncomplicated to truly bring out the feel of the collection. And now, the look book!

Thanks so much for checking out my look book, I hope you like it as much as I do!

A winter day

A while ago I made this little bronze house. I made it because I wanted a paperweight for myself and well, because I am obsessed with houses, so the two things came together quite nicely. I love my little house and I use it mostly as a small sculpture that sits on my desk, beside some of my treasures like my rock collection and old photos.

Since the beginning I though I'd put it on my Etsy shop but I just couldn't get myself to photograph it. I think my mind works funny about my product photography: When I design something I see stories around the piece and my mind doesn't wait long to start imagining, seeing how these stories look, so it's not just the item but what's around it, what it means. And when I made the little house there was a lot of daydreaming and imagining about it so I knew the kind of photos I wanted to take to show it to you. When the particular idea/the plan for the shoot didn't quite translate good out of the daydream, I didn't push it, I just let it rest there knowing it'd come. Some weeks ago I was working on the studio and there was copious snow falling outside; the little bronze house shoot came to mind again and I said "yes, a winter scene. In a forest." And I started cutting the little paper trees. I put a piece of  white tissue paper covering the trees to make it look softer but I was delighted when the paper made the scene look like "snowing", at least looks so to me! hehehe, my imaginations runs wild, I tell you. You can see bellow how it looks without the paper.

Anyway, the little bronze house as well as the photos you see here, are very special to me, I hope you enjoy them.

The Angry Weather look book (second and last part).

Marianne Caron wearing my Raindrop necklace. Photography by S.E. St-Gelais, stylist Maude Boisjoly and make up by Sarah Ladouceur.

So much to say about so many things! the last month has been absolutely bonkers: being behind the organization of a craft show surpassed all my expectations. It was so much work, so much fun, the planning, the doing, the crazy daily to-do lists, so much to coordinate but it was as well one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had! I still can't believe we did it and I still can't believe how amazing it was!

Anyway, I will write a blog post about that soon telling you all about it but now I have something I NEED TO SHOW YOU: the second and final part of the photos from my look book!

Shot by wonder-girl-photographer Sara Emily St-Gelais
Model is the gorgeous Marianne Caron.
Amazing stylist is Maude Boisjoly
And make up artist extraordinaire is Sarah Ladouceur.

I love with photos: the effortless feel, the dreamy feel, the softness, the simplicity. The team understood my work and did a wonderful job bringing all the elements of it together: sometimes modern, other times more sweet and delicate. Plus working with them was delightful and a lot of fun!

So, here they are, the lovely photos! I hope you enjoy them.

Beautiful, right? You can click on the photos for more info about The Angry Weather jewellery Marianne is wearing. Thank you Sarah-Emily, Sarah Ladouceur, Maude and Marianne, you are truly amazing!

Last days of summer...

Days are getting shorter, mornings are getting colder but there's still the light of the September sun that manages to warm everything around. Summer is not over yet, and we should take advantage of every bit of that sunlight.

The photos you'll see here, were taken on a hot August day some weeks ago by photographer Sarah Emily St-Gelais and even though that day was so humid and hot, when Emily finished editing them and send them to me, they made me feel as if they were taken today, on this fresh and sunny September day.

I met Emily more than a year ago and since then we have been talking back and forth about a photo shoot for my jewellery and for some reason or another it wasn't until this summer that we started really planing it. She got a fantastic team for this shoot: stylist Maude Boisjoly, make up artist Sarah Ladouceur and model Marianne Caron

This was such an experience for me: the very first time I have ever had professional help with these kind of things and it was amazing to see how this works! Plus I had a fantastic time with these girls, click here at this post I made about the shoot day!

One of the things I like the most about these photos is that they feel like if Emily is telling a story and that's precisely what I wanted, to tell a story about my jewellery. Up to you to interpret it your particular way :) Come see:
