Sprinkles of happiness - I'm in a magazine!

Hello

This time is not the best for me but at the same time I’ve almost forgot to share this piece of happiness (thank god for it!). Yes, my calendars have been featured on Casa Facile, a lovely magazine from Italy. I’ve almost missed it if it wasn’t for Elisabetta from Little Firestar  that told me that.

Who could have imagined that! I’m so happy that people have noticed it and of course you can still download them for free here. This kind of surprises make you want to continue and do more despite the hard time in the real life.
Elisabetta was also so kind to show me how she printed them. Don’t you think it’s so cute?

So why spending a lot of money on an agenda when the net offers them for free?
Did you miss the post? here it is! Please also check the blog for all the others :-)
Have a wonderful day!

Jess

Guest Post: Top trends in home decoration for 2012

Keeping our homes stylish and up to date with the latest fashions can be an arduous task. After all, every year brings new trends, designs and styles that can leave their predecessors looking drab and out of date. This year heralds some amazing new trends in home decoration and looks set to be a spellbinding time of big flowers, bold colors and bright new horizons. Keeping up with the Jones’ has never been so difficult; in this article we will touch on the top trends in home decoration for 2012.

Retro Styles and 60’s charm

This year looks set to see a spin back in time with the retro style trends continuing to make an ever present showing on the home design scene. Many appliance companies are producing fantastic retro styled appliances that match perfectly into a well decorated home, giving us that bold 60’s charm. The floral prints of the 60’s are also making a come back, with big flowers and oversized wall paper smashing its way onto the scene. Oversized prints are back with style, with flowers being the main feature on the old school wallpapers fused with modern retro styling.

Bold colors and water color wall paper

Bold colors look set to lead the way in 2012, with bright vibrant oranges, watercolor blues and lipstick reds leading the way for modern designers. Water color wall papers set with big flowers and oversized prints adorn the walls, whilst vibrant bold colors set the feature for modern furniture and lamps. In fact, Pantones has named their color of the year “Tangerine Tango”. With vibrant colors and watercolor walls 2012 looks set to be a bright and bubbly year, with continuing trends from last year sliding their way back into the mix.

Imperfection continues its charge

Last year’s major trend of imperfection has continued its charge in 2012, with a strong showing and a modern twist. The imperfect styling continues now with a modern twist, deep purples will adorn the imperfect looks of the linen craze of 2011. Deep purples, dark chocolate browns and vibrant reds will make the linen craze of 2011 stand out strong in 2012. Imperfect design is a difficult look to master and careful consideration needs to be taken into account when utilizing this outstanding trend.

Camelback sofas, central door knobs and marbleized looks

2012 looks set to be a cool year of outstanding trends and home design marvels. Camelback sofas will make a strong feature amongst the over-sized floral wallpaper in watercolor blues and pastels. Big flowers look set to adorn most homes with an imperfect styling leading the way in a retro-fueled year in home design. Centralized door knobs make an interesting appearance this year whilst marbleized lamps and prints also making a come back. 2012 looks set to be an interesting year in home decorating, with some interesting new trends, some twisted classic looks and 60s style emblazoning our minds with a new and modern era in home design.

Picnic inspired wedding decor

"Each napkin had a different ring treatment. The napkin rings were a fun DIY project. I got knobs from Anthropologie, clipped off the screws so that they would lay flat, and then created the ring by using two different types of ribbon (including that beautiful vintage velvet ribbon I found on etsy) and hot gluing the knob to the ribbon. Super easy and super cute.

We also used some additional knobs on the table to add a little extra charm"

Very modern house via DigsDigs

Don't you love it? I'm not modern but that pink....all via Digsdigs

When an architect designs home for himself it usually becomes a fantastic living space that other people can only dream of. Micheli Residence is exactly such a home designed by Simone Micheli in a very modern style. It’s located in Florence, Italy and the architect lives there with his family. The house is full of large open spaces, light, vibrant colors and interesting custom-made furniture. Even though it has many traditional features of luxury living spaces it doesn’t look as pretentious as these spaces. The main color around both floors is white. It helps to make the environment more light and spacious. Only some furniture elements are painted in other colors but all these colors are very bright and noticeable. About 90% of the home is made of eco compatible materials.

5 ideas for decorating a rental - ish and chi

What inspired me this morning?
Well, apart from my son telling me not to go to work and offering me his piggy bank instead (he’s 2 and a half!), on my daily reading I came across this helpful post from Ish & Chi.
Hope you like it as much as I did.It happens to all of us to move to a rental at some stage and my first one was a disaster because I didn’t feel it was MY PLACE! This post might give you some ideas.

So what inspired you today? Leave a comment or email me!

1. Wallpapered panels

Just because you live in a rental, doesn't mean you can't enjoy wallpaper on a large scale. My suggestion is to use large pieces of plywood/MDF, paper it with your favourite pattern and then frame with a thin border. The panels would look great on any bare walls or as a bed head.

If you prefer not to display wallpaper in this way and on a large scale, perhaps you might like to add a hint of pattern to your home by lining drawers with any type of decorative paper that will make you smile when you open them.

2. Large leaning mirrors

Lean large ornate mirrors against walls for extra glam and to open up spaces. Perfectly suited for a bedroom or bathroom. Just be sure it is safe and won't topple, especially if you have curious kids. You can fix the mirror to the wall and still have it leaning but please check if you can make holes in the wall before attempting this.

3. Swap out the pendant lights or shades

Make sure you keep the old ones to replace again when you leave. Do check that this too won't cause issues.

4. Window covering for privacy

If your kitchen window stares straight into another person's home try covering with decorative film for a little extra privacy. Just be sure the film doesn't leave behind a sticky residue.

5. Storage solutions

Storage can sometimes be an issue in rentals. A bookcase filled with pretty boxes can be used as storage. Try kikki-k for a nice selection of cloth storage boxes.

A study desk can also double as storage and hide computer wires by covering with a bold fabric to hide away the contents underneath.
