Weekend

Yet another fairly unproductive weekend. Same old, same old. Did manage to clean up my room quite a bit though, which is nice. Also, Daylight Savings Time ended, so we gained an extra hour last night, which is so sweet. Except when you think about the hour you're going to lose in March. Ah well :)

Eclipse

Witnessed my first Lunar Eclipse today...was very cool :) Hard to take photos, but here are a couple that turned out okay. That triangular shape you see on the right is my apartment building :)

Brownies

Some days there's just nothing better than a really good brownie and a mug of milk. This week has been absolutely insane. At school (ie. student teaching school), my mind was all over the place but I somehow managed to pretend to be normal, although just barely :) I came home last night and crashed, haven't even managed to run twice this week (which I'd been able to ever I started teaching). They had this Parents' Night thing, and I swear, by the end I was so close to just crashing there. But I still love it all, and will be sad to leave the kiddos in a fortnight. Classes (ie. grad school classes) were fine. And I started work today at a new job, which was good. I forget how quickly time flies when you're editing. So yeah. Anyway, to avoid confusion, henceforth, student teaching will be refered to as school, grad school will be refered to as classes and work will be work :) Okay, I'm going back to my brownie now.

Autumn

Or Fall, as it were, is most certainly here. The temperatures are dropping, the leaves are slowly turning, and pumpkins are everywhere! (Okay, maybe that just means Halloween is near, but still). My days and weeks are beginning to merge into one big blob of days, and I'm constantly in a state of déjà vu. I have distinct memories of sitting around the apartment catching up on all the reading I hadn't done during the week, and yet, here I am in that situation again :) Hmm...spent an insane amount of money yesterday, but did end up with one return ticket to London (for winter break), 10 books, 18 handmade bookmarks (i.e. bookmarks that I handmade for my students), and a really good lunch in my tummy :)

Busy

Another busy week, with the usual class and teaching. Have been all over the place this week actually. Went to the Met for a class, brought the kids to the Natural History Museum for an excursion, and spent an hour this afternoon sitting on a rock in Central Park. Not bad at all. Also, just borrowed the whole Sports Night series on DVD from the NYPL and have been having a marathon viewing session since Friday (you're only allowed to take DVDs out for a week, and they made me take all six discs out at the same time because I had them on reserve). I forget how much I love this show. Thank goodness tomorrow is a holiday - gives me time to catch up on all the work I've been avoiding :)

Here's me hanging out in the park. Only in New York is sitting on a rock to read a book such a great experience :)

Hilarious

So read this story on BBC News and just had to pass it along.
-------------
A dog has been caught on camera breaking out of his kennel at Battersea Dogs Home and freeing other animals for regular midnight feasts. Red has been unlocking his kennel using his nose and teeth before releasing his favourite canine companions. Staff at the south London animal shelter decided to install cameras after arriving each day to find food everywhere and dogs running amok. The lurcher's kennel has now been made more secure to stop him escaping. Liz Emeny, from the home, told BBC News Online the most dogs Red had ever released in one night was nine.

"For the last two weeks staff have been arriving every morning to a complete mess with dogs and food everywhere," she said. "He [Red] only ever chooses his mates to let out, with Lucky the dog, who he was found with, being the first to be freed. We don't have CCTV cameras in the corridor so couldn't work out how he was doing it so we asked a film company to set up some cameras." The three-year-old lurcher has been at the home since June after being handed into a London police station in an emaciated state. "Lurchers aren't usually known for their intelligence but Red is such an inquisitive dog and would be so easy to train," Ms Emeny added.

Animals

So it was a good weekend. Went to the St Francis Feast Day at St John the Divine this afternoon, where they had the procession of animals. Very cool. People were allowed to bring their pets into the church, and for the procession they brought a camel, two llamas, a cow and a whole bunch of other animals in too. I hung out outside the church to get some photos with a few people who were super friendly, and almost gave myself a heart attack when I dropped my digital camera and the lens popped out! But yeah, I got it fixed in the end...phew. Also, yesterday Michelle and I went down to Washington Square Park for the NY is Book Country fair (which was nice), and the Taste of Chinatown thing (where a whole bunch of restaurants were selling $1 plates of food - we were full after $3 :)

Crazy Week

So it's been a pretty crazy week. School's been super busy, as has work, and oh, my sister got married too, so yeah :) Crazy.
