Believe it. This is an original song from the High School Musical 2 Soundtrack. The bonus track, though.
What's the title again? Oh yea. HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A. Serious. That's the song name. For various unnamed reasons, though obvious, the song is not on 'auto play'. Check it out.
We had Aces Day and Teachers' Day Celebration on Monday. Frankly, Aces Day was a total failure on the part of the organising committee.
For one, the student body had no inkling of what was going to happen on that day itself. The least the organising committee could have done was to inform the school how the workout would go about and who would be doing the workout with us.
For another, the Aces Day Workout is called a workout because it is a workout. Why the heck would anyone invite dancers to do the Aces Day Workout? I would say the whole day was more like the Aces Day Dance than the Aces Day Workout. Absolutely ridiculous. I haven't seen penguins doing workouts before this. It was a total waste of 1.25 hours. I boycotted the entire dance.
The people who did the dance with us was from Actfa. I checked their website. Its a dance school. The people probably felt sad that most of the school didn't go along with the workout. But it wasn't their fault, really. I guess the school was so surprised by the programme that noone was in the mood to join in. The organising committee didn't even bother to build up the mood for it either. They left it to the external people entirely. A total failure. 1 point down for the new batch of student councillors.
Prelims have finally begun. The first paper. GP. It was beyond what I expected. The paper was clearly out to draw blood. Anyway, I have put the questions for Paper 1 up. You can take a look if you are interested. The death pike was the comprehension though.
To quote some lines in the passages: "Our whole culture and economy is firstly grounded on growth. Our politicians are obsessed with this and regard it as a litmus paper test of the success or failure of political policy. But limitless growth in any system is ultimately untenable."
"Although the argument seems different from that for climate change, the crux of the problem is again the power of intuition and assertion over the rationality of science."
"Because morality is, for all but the most stubbornly impervious to practical evidence, a matter of utilitarian dialectic."
Ah. You get the idea.
Econs is tommorow. I ain't getting my hopes up. Econs has never been my strong subject. I hope for the best.

A total lunar eclipse of the moon will occur next Tuesday, on the 28th of August. This is the 2nd and last lunar eclipse of 2007. Anyway. Luckily for us, it will occur when the moon is just over the Pacfic. Yay. Unluckily for us, Singapore is not very well covered as usual -_-
According to the National Environment Agency(NEA), the moon will rise in Singapore at 7:10pm and the sun will set at 7:11pm on the 28th of August. If you match that to the information above, we will miss the lunar eclipse at its greatest point totally. But the thing is, we will still have a full 12 minutes before the total eclipse of the moon ends in Singapore assuming the sun's rays don't overwhelm the moon totally for that one minute just before the sun sets. The other good news is that, the moon will appear to be the fullest on the night of the 28th August for the whole of August. Yep, it will appear as a big glowing orb next Tue night.
So set your alarm clocks for 7:10pm and watch the eastern horizon(hopefully yours isn't blocked by skyscrapers and buildings cos mine is -_-) for a orange-reddish ball in the sky. Yep. That's how the moon looks like when it undergoes an eclipse.
Oh and don't worry if you forget. I will remind some people on the night itself. That's all then.
*By the way, as a general guide, and if you don't have a compass, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. And the best place to catch this lunar eclipse is Hawaii =)

p0h's|n: Lol.. for an art piece probably worth it. Unless they eat it after the exhibition is over =/
♂jw: Haha. That's gonna be the biggest roti prata ever. Lol.
cry(s): Yep, after all its biscuits.. though I wonder how much glue was used to stick them together. 4 days left. oh no.
I went to catch the Singapore Fireworks Celebrations last Saturday with the PS people. The fireworks were fabulous though it started a little late.
Hah. No mood to go into any details, so I shall just end off with a group photo.
No more fireworks for this year then. We shall catch them again next year. I am so tired. So it feels like this. The dying throes of childhood.

I was at J8 today when...
o.O what's that?
Oh my. Jacobs is holding an exhibition on the 2nd floor of J8, with famous national monuments made out of.. biscuits!?
Argh. For a moment there, I wished I had a DSLR. Lol. Anyway I decided to use my Nokia E65 camera instead. Not a very famous camera brand, but at least its a camera.
Bringing to you, the 7 edible national monuments from Jacobs!
From left to right: Eiffel Tower, Grand Pyramids of Giza, some bridge(can't tell what), Esplanade, Petrona Twin Towers, Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal
And here are some other photos:
Cool, huh? Check it out at J8 before the exhibition ends!
Someone suggested that I could take the "result slip" and start selling it. The advertisement would go like this: "$2 to buy your life back."
That's assuming that the person did horribly badly and would be literally thrashed by his/her parents when they see the results slip.
Well. I don't think I will be doing that, though if anyone wants a free one to fill in their names and to print it out so that they can hang it by their bedside for inspiration and motivation, they are free to do so. Yep. For ideal grades!

♂jw: Omg indeed. Lol.
Tim: Well that's a possibility. Its also why I pasted the word 'Sample' over it. In case people start printing it out..
p0h's|n: Haha. Of cos.

We come across a lot of 'ideal' stuff in our subjects. There are 'ideal gases', 'ideal voltmeters', 'ideal market structures' etc. The list is inexhaustible. But the reason why they are called 'ideal' is because these situations are currently unattainable given either our current level of technology or because it is technically impossible to attain.
Guess what. These are my ideal grades:
That's because it is technically unattainable. Lol.
I am surprised I am still typing this entry here. Haha. Yesterday, I shifted my computer in my house, and because of that, I had to use an extension cord for the computer's power supply. All was well for the whole of yesterday, until I accidentally touched the metallic earphones input(whatever you call it) on my computer.
I got a slight electric shock. Literally and seriously. I was thinking: How can that be? Ignoring it, I went to sleep.
This morning, I was about to attach a device to a USB cable when I touched the USB cable connected to the computer, and I got another shock. It feels like a sudden tinge, then the area of your hand that comes into contact with the metal will go numb for a very short while. I ain't sure about the effects of leaving your hand on an electrocuted metal object for about 1 minute. I didn't try to find out.
That was when I realised something wasn't right. I touched my computer casing, and I got an electric shock again. Omg. My whole CPU is being electrocuted? Together with everything in metal contact with the computer? Omg. I am surprised nothing is burning yet.
Maybe its because the electric voltage wasn't that high anyway. But to think about it, if the voltage wasn't stepped down, I would be fried from that. Quite cool. I found the problem and fixed it anyway. It was due to the extension cord. It was faulty.
Alright. All my devices attached to the computer survived the shock. Haha. Wonder what would have happened if the power supply wasn't stepped down? BBQ-ed.

♂jw: yep. totally agreed.
jem: XD. secret.
wilson: hmm. didn't really notice you and shawn. mainly noticed joseph who was quite near my class. anws being at the front will also mean less zoom and more closeups. plenty of advantages there. yep.
p0h's|n: I know you don't like him lol. But should see his aerial photo of the choir on stage at his blog. Makes people wonder how he got that shot of that angle.

AJC commemorated National Day today with the AJ Race, a quest to selective areas around Central Singapore to learn and know more about the pillars behind the success story of Singapore. Why does this terrible feeling rage through me? The competition was between classes, and we had to reach 2 external destinations, and then back to school by 10am. My class's plans were to go to Grassroots Club(YCK) and AMK Hub after that. It was a rather short trip since both of these locations were pretty close to each other both in terms of accessibility and geographical distance. Been feeling like this for a few days now, days that seemed eternity. We were back with more than enough time to order in lunch, finish the lunch and still had sufficient time then to sit around and wait for the concert to start. I feel so lost, broken, destroyed. The concert had 2 rather entertaining emcees, especially Patrick. All I can say is: You are the best. Lol. Hiding behind a facade, with laughter, smiles that feel so unreal. The concert programme was surprisingly short. It went like this: Everything seems so wrong. 1. We had a performance by the AJ Choir. 2. We had the prize giving ceremony for the AJ Race in the morning. No matter how, why, where, what. The individualist always fail. After that, the emcees said: "We have now come to the finale item of the concert. Let's put our hands together for..." Memories, replayed again and again. Huh? 3 items for the whole celebration concert? Okay. That's pretty amazing. The finale ended pretty soon, ending the whole concert in less than 20 minutes. Woot. That's the shortest celebration I have ever gone through in 17 years. Like a blade, stabbing through again and again. Totally amazing. Haha. Its killing me. And I know that there's no therapy. No remedy. Oh yea. Just remembered. There was a free-lance student photographer capturing the moments for the National Day celebration alongside the PS people officially tasked to do the job. Did you all notice? Although this might sound like criticism, but I hope you all will take it as feedback. You don't know me. You don't even care. Oh yeah. The freelance student photographer was doing much better. He was mobile and he knew he had to be near the stage. I know he has more experience than most of the PS people but all I can say is, we need to do better than that. That's all then. I have been trying, trying so hard to let go. To cry. But no matter how hard I try, I cannot let go.
Happy National Day peeps. The short break has officially begun! I have already forgotten how to cry. I have already forgotten how to live my life. I have already forgotten how to be human...

In a typical GP lesson:
"It(trust among Singaporeans) will be forged only when we have gone through fire together". Explain, in your words as far as possible, what Goh(the author) means by this sentence.
Class, what do you understand by the word 'forged'? Someone give me the literal meaning of 'forged'?
To copy someone's else signature.
Classic, I tell you. Classic.

It was a very very tiring day. Because of the expected weekend break, lessons for Monday and Tuesday are dragging beyond normal lesson timetables. I used to dread Monday and Tuesday as the worst days of the week.
It was the ultimate burn-out today though. Extra lessons all the way till 5:35pm, although lessons officially ended at 1:45pm. The problem with Monday is that the first period is PE, an effective energy-draining period early in the morning. I don't have the habit of sleeping early on Sunday, so it drains my dwindling energy significantly.
After that was a 1-hour break, followed by 4 hours of lessons straight till 1:45pm. At 1:45pm, after Geography lesson ended, I didn't even get up from my chair. It sounds quite funny, but the moment the lesson ended, I fell asleep right there. Must have been flaked out.
I did wake 20 minutes later due to a phonecall, at which point I realised that the whole class was missing and the only people left were Zheng Kai and Ms Zhu still discussing a Geography question. Hah. How did I manage that? My brain must have been completely exhausted if I managed to knock out just like that.
Econs was rather interesting though. During the lecture, they gave us some model answers to essay questions, then told us to remove one particular question, and to return it to the teacher. Ironically, that was the model answer for the timed practice we are supposed to take tomorrow. Lol. Gotta study for a tests with 'predicted questions'!
The whole day felt like being semi-comatose. I can't wait for the long weekend to begin. Haha. I think many of us need the break too. Have fun this weekend!
By the way, I noticed an article in the news today - a follow-up on the rape-kill incident that occured in Iraq last year. The U.S. soldiers responsible were finally sentenced after a period of trials. Even though they really deserved the sentences, I must say it would be pretty difficult for them to complete it. 3 of the soldiers were sentenced 80 years, 90 years, and 110 years in jail respectively.
Whoa. If the third soldier ever made it to the end of his sentence, he would break several world records as the longest person ever in jail and the longest-lived person ever.
But the news article said the soldiers might be able to get off on parole after 10 years. It really defeats the purpose of sentencing them for 280 years among the 3 of them in total, isn't it? But that is rather debatable. If those convicted were repentant after the 10 years spent behind bars, it would be humane to give them another chance to start anew. However, if they had remained unchanged for the past 10 years, it would be akin to releasing a threat back into society.
Singapore doesn't practise parole. Isn't that a great incentive not to commit crimes in Singapore? Imagine being sentenced to 110 years in jail in Singapore, and knowing that there will be no chance of getting out. What a bummer, eh?

p0h's|n: I think something's stuck with it. Haha. Will get it changed if I get a chance.
Wakka02: Hello! How's the E65? It will start falling apart in a couple of months. Trust me lol. Ahhh. You should have gotten another phone! Most of the newly released models have the WLan function anyway. Hah. Why never get a PDA phone? =P
Gerald: Lol. I couldn't get it to work again but its hilarious. Lol.
Griffie: Hah. Chain frost needs several 'skilled personnel' de. =P
And Yay! to the new countdown timers. They run on HTML now. Guaranteed no lag and bound to work =))
One of them is RED for a reason. They are the clocks of reality.

Shut up. This is Singapore.
Thanks to Civics, I learnt some details about the Internal Security Act of Singapore today. Have you ever heard of it? If not, I ain't surprised. I haven't either, although I came across articles on one of its operations at one point of time, but I never knew there was such a system in place. So what exactly is the Internal Security Act? Quoted from Wikipedia, the Internal Security Act confers on the government the right to arrest and detain individuals without trial in certain defined circumstances.
Funny how such things never seem to appear in school textbooks.
What's the significance of the Internal Security Act, you might ask. If you didn't get what the above definition of the Internal Security Act is, here's some things that the Internal Security Department can do based on the Internal Security Act. 1. The government can arrest any individual without an arrest warrant. 2. The accused can be detained for an indefinite period of time without trial (most notably Chia Thye Poh, who was imprisoned under the Internal Security Act for 23 years and then confined on Sentosa for another 9 years, hence detained for a total of 32 years. 3. People can 'disappear', be it terrorists, activists or politicians.
Some people might say. Hey. Isn't that like the secret police in totalitarian regimes? Oh no, of course not. For one, the Internal Security Department is not secret. Secret police operate in the dark. The Internal Security Department is just... less mentioned. For another, Singapore is not a totalitarian regime. We are a democracy, like we call ourselves. But Singapore isn't a democracy, isn't it? What do you mean Singapore is not a democracy? Singapore is one. Now shut up. This is Singapore.
Perhaps its not us that are not speaking up. Perhaps its not that we do not ask questions. Perhaps we have always been taught not to speak out. Perhaps we have never been taught to ask questions. Perhaps we have never been told to ask questions. Perhaps we were never meant to question. Perhaps we should just shut up.
The Internal Security Act was invoked in 2 significant operations in 1963 and 1987, namely Operation Coldstore and Operation Spectrum. In Operation Coldstore, at least 107 left-wing politicians and trade unionists were arrested, which included several leaders of the Barisan Sosialis and the Singapore Association of Trade Unions, successfully dissolving the two parties. The Barisan Sosialis was formed by left-wing members of the People Action's Party, who broke away from the PAP after a disagreement over the Singapore-Malaya merger. They were the 2nd biggest political party at the time up to their arrest. The PAP remained the strongest political party ever since. The Singapore Association of Trade Unions was formed when they broke away from the pro-PAP National Trade Union Congress. When its leaders were arrested in Operation Coldstore, the SATU was dissolved, leaving the NTUC as the only legal union in Singapore. The NTUC and the PAP still share 'close relations' today, and its union leaders are made up of Members of Parliament.
During Operation Spectrum, 22 young activists and professionals were detained on the basis that they were conspiring to overturn the Singapore government and replace it with a Marxist state. They were not communists, but were actually helping the Worker's Party. All of them were subsequently released, after being 'persuaded' to sign an agreement and also to confess that they were communists. However, 9 of them later released a joint statement, alleging that they were tortured in confinement. 8 of them were re-arrested the next day and the 9th person had already left the country, thus avoiding arrest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe the school upgraded the computers in the com lab! They look so brand new. Haha. Even AJC upgrades. Now that amazes me. The computers look pretty good too. And they revamped the whole computer lab. At least, the one at 212. Check it out some time yea =]
It was a darn long day today. Geog timed practice. Econs timed practice. Nothing but timed practices. I left school at 7pm as usual. Ever since the extra lessons started flooding us.. school has been quite sad. Sigh. What to do about it?
Replies ~ your tags:
p0h'sn: Lol. The timer is reality =] jiayou for the upcoming promos!
zkai: lol. come back again next year.
cry(s): Hah. Maybe it isn't 1 year yet.
If I disappear after this post, it means the Internal Security Department has caught up with me yea. I didn't make any criticism at all. I merely stated facts. Please go form your own perspectives. I am just going to shut up here.
