Little Italy Mercato
Don't you just love Farmer's markets? Last weekend I set up at the Little Italy Mercato on Date Street. The food and scenery were unbelievable. Only in San Diego can you be outside in short sleeves on January 2nd, facing the bay, eating scones and drinking lattes. I'll be there each weekend and will share with you the exciting foods we eat each week, sort of Julie & Julia meet The Mercato!
Our first stop while setting up was Joe's on The Nose for a vanilla latte. Perfect! There was even a design on the foamed milk! To go with the latte, we headed over to Loic Patisserie for a chocolate croissant and raspberry scone, dee-lish!
I couldn't figure out why there were so many dogs at the market until I realized there was a dog park right behind us. And...between me and the dog park there were Bocce Ball courts! There were 5 elderly gentleman playing bocce ball and speaking in Italian. They made me laugh and think of my dad who grew up on the streets of New York. My grandfather was a fruit peddlar and my dad had the task of "bouncing" the melons on the sidewalk so they would seem ripe (I hope he was kidding).
My husband bought lemon basil angel hair pasta to take home to cook and it was the best (I'll have the name of the vendor for you next week!). There is nothing like fresh pasta! We are committed to try a new pasta each Saturday. I can't wait to try a new flavor this weekend!
Stunning view of the bay...
So,...if you are looking for a Saturday Farmer's Market, meet me at The Mercato in Little Italy.
