More Framing

More framing!
I had these two framed alike and they hang together as you see them.
The top one is Tony Minieri's Stars for a New Miullenium.
The bottom one is Pamela Gardner's From Molehill to Mountain.
I used my own color scheme for both of them.

FMTM is finished!

From Molehill to Mountain is finally finished.  I started this in March of 2012.  It has been a long time in the doing.  The border seemed to take forever!
I don't know when I'll get it framed, but I'll show it to you when that happens.  Could be a long time though!

FMTM, Border Progress #2

I have been working on the border of FMTM forever.  I haven't posted because it is just border & more border & doesn't change much.  But look, I'm on the last side.  Maybe I can get that done this week.  Or next.  Then there is a LOT of backstitching to be done around the dark teal in the border.  Sigh....

FMTM Border progress

Yup, I've been working on From Molehill to Mountain.  I WILL finish it!  I will, I will.  Yes, I know the photo is awful, but you can at least see the progress I've made.  All of the diamonds are finished.  I am nearly finished with the first row around of light aqua Scotch stitches.  Next will be the many, many teal Scotches and partial Scotches.  Sigh.....

FMTM Border Started

I have figured out a border for FMTM.  I started with the diamond border in the pattern, but changed its background to a simple alternating Scotch in 2 shades of aqua.  I have enough done now to tell that I think I like it.  There is backstitching around all the dark stitches and I only have a little of that done.
Now it is just a matter of perseverance!

FMTM Sashing Complete

I finished the Sashing and Cornerstones on FMTM this week.
FMTM will eventually have to play with Stars for a New Millenium; therefore, I used the cornerstones pattern from Stars for FMTM.
Now I have to decide about the Border.  Should I use one of the patterns in FMTM or use the border from Stars or come up with some sort of combination of the two?
Decisions!!

FMTM Block #6

FMTM is my main project right now.  I have been working on it a lot and have finally completed the last block.  This one got pretty tedious, but I finally finished it.  It is all Rice Stitch variations, even the ones that look a bit like flowers.  I actually like those flowery ones quite a bit!
Next up is sashing and borders.  A lot of stitching left to do but I am determined to finish this soon.  It has been almost two years in the works.
Here's what it looks like now:

FMTM Block #5

This week I've been working on FMTM again.  I completed Block #5 last night.  Whew.  Each block takes longer than you would tfhink!
Block #5 is all block stitch variations. I had to really work on the color arrangement because I wanted this block to be similar to Block #3 (upper left).  Detail below.

As you can see, I only have one block left to do and then the dreaded sashing & borders!

FMTM Block 4

I haven't worked on FMTM for awhile, but have now pulled it out & will concentrate on this project at least a couple of times a week.  This is Block 4 and it is slow going for me.  Several sections are pulled work and just seem to take forever!  The upper right corner, the square below the aqua one, shows the first of the final sections completed  All of the remaining sections are like this one.  Although they are small, they are slow to stitch.  I hope the next two blocks will go faster!

FMTM Block 3

Finally, I worked on FMTM again!  Block 3 is complete so I'm a little less behind.  I arranged my colors different from the examples and I am pleased with the result.
However, my center square makes this Block not quite go with the other two.  So I have decided that when I stitch Blocks 5 & 6 I will reverse the positioning so that #6 will be on the opposite end from #3.  Six looks like it is similar, so I can use this color layout again & it should balance the piece.

Here's what the whole thing is looking like so far:

FMTM Block 2

Block 2 of FMTM is finished.  This is not going to be my favorite block, but I think it turned out pretty.  This block was all about cross stitches and they were mostly tiny & layered & not fun.  Oh well, it's done now.  I am not happy with my 3rd color family and may do without it altogether.  I did not use any of it in Block 2 and I may take out what I have in Block 1.

From Molehill to Mountain

Yes, I am doing From Molehill to Mountain (FMTM) by Pamela Gardner, through Scarlet Thread.  I am using pretty much the same colors I did for Stars For a New Millenium, except I am not using the off-whites and have chosen kind of a khaki color for my accent color.
The first block has taken me forever.  First I had about half ot the basting done & discovered I had it turned the wrong way.  Out came the basting & back in. Once I started the block, I was goin' good & discovered I was one thread off from the basted square.  Well, I just ripped out that basting thread again, only this time I didn't put it back in!  I'll just count from one square to the next.
This is my first block.  I followed most of Pam's suggestions for the color placement, except:  I used the dark brown instead of the teal for the outlining on the pinwheel.  And the "color" in the 8 small squares was supposed to be my darkest accent color.  Well, my darkest khaki was too light, it was about the same "value" as the brown.  Not a good look!  Since there isn't a darker khaki in that family, I ended up using a Fyre Werks Soft Sheen.  It doesn't seem to be much darker than the floss, but it appears darker when stitched!  Finally, I'm happy with it.
