The atmosphere in this town (Göttingen) is mainly influenced by the university and the many students and although it is a typical German town, one hears lots of different languages in the streets, which gives it a cosmopolitan feeling.

For those who visit my blog sometimes this may look familiar to you. It is a new take on one of my recent paintings (In a French Hallway), which I felt lent itself to a larger format and a different composition. I am quite pleased with how the light coming in through the door turned out.

I am realizing more and more that a simple subject without too much information is much better for me to paint - I don't get wrapped up and lost in it. Very pleased with this one.

Winter Sun

We still haven't been able to go anywhere, but my sweet husband managed to keep the fire going somehow - he miraculously found a huge log he had stored years ago in an overgrown corner of our property. So, with four layers of clothes and lots of mugs of hot tea, we are actually doing better than expected. And... the sun even came out for a while! We keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow.
By the way, this is an oak tree that still has it's leaves in spite of very stormy winds we've had - amazing.

I have not been able to paint over the last few days because I worked as a volunteer helper at the Music Festival our little town organizes every year. It’s loads of work, little sleep and great fun!
So I decided to post an older picture I painted several years ago. I think it goes well with the last ones I did although it has a different style.
I will probably not be posting any new work for the next two weeks as I am off to America on Thursday! I am going there for an important birthday and a big wedding with loads of family, and I presume there will not be enough time for painting. But I hope to take some interesting photographs that I can work from later. And I will certainly try to look at the DP gallery daily!
