I love it when my worlds collide.
Here we have Atlanta Thrashers goaltender/Finn/nerd sporting his latest mask. It has the Dark Knight Joker on it.
And sure, you don't have to be a nerd to like Kill Bill either, but the two things together are starting to paint a pretty nerdy picture.
Yes, that is a Final Fantasy themed goalie mask.
Still not convinced? How about this Optimus Prime (movie version) mask he had made but never wore in a game?
Is he a geek, or is he just lazy about his pop culture references? You decide. I choose to award him the first Living Between Wednesdays Award for Public Geekery by an Outsider.

Not convinced? Of course not. You don't have to be a nerd to like The Dark Knight. So let's go to Exhibit B: the Kill Bill mask from the previous season:

Now let's go to Exhibit C, or as I like to call it, the clincher:

And, just for fun but not really relevant to my argument, here's a picture of Lehtonen with Lil' Jon (who has also been featured on a Lehtonen mask). Actually, I think this picture is relevant to my argument because Lehts looks really nerdy:
Keep letting that geek flag fly, Lehts!

The Kill Bill mask that Kari wore, features the artwork of Neozoic artist, J. Korim (who is also a Toronto resident).
Oh yeah? I was going to look up the artist of that mask but then I forgot. That's cool to know! Thanks!
Is he just selling mask space to anyone who wants it?
Maybe it's just the guy who supplies his uniform(s) who's a geek. ;-)

Do you remember the Danny-Devito-as-the-Penguin mask that Kenny Wregget used to wear with Pittsburgh in the early 90s? I swear he was still using it as late as 1996. I oughta try to find a shot of it...
Yeah, that's the one.
Rob - Yes, and YES!
There are two possibilities here, either he's an over the top geek, or his mask designer is. either way the masks are pretty cool.

I don't care I just want to watch the games and have fun haha by the way thanks for the pictures.
The Stars take on the Blues tonight at the AAC, and I'll luckily be in attendance in some fancy seats (I love Law Enforcement Appreciate Night). Turco is expected to start, with Kari getting his first action in a Stars sweater on Saturday afternoon (barring a game-day change of plans, that is).
ts an excellent way to bring the excitement and fun of NHL to your attire without attracting undue attention by wearing your teams mask in public
make sure that they know the facts so that they can correct inaccuracies and keep people up to date with what is happening

Great Work.
Kari Lehtonen is apparently a huge nerd, featuring both Yuna and Rikku of the Final Fantasy series on this mask when he played for the Atlanta Thrashers.
I swear he was still using it as late as 1996. I ought a try to find a shot of it.
